  1. $2800 for 2 RF-7's and the matching center and surrounds. They had a sale on New Years Day, half off the second speaker and they even took 25% off the center speaker. My beloved Forte II's are now in the family room and I gave the old JBL's to my sister.

I spent the money I had been saving for a new receiver. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, the Academy I bid on and lost on e-bay went for $550! My brand new RC-7 was less than $100 more! So I just got tired of trying to match up a system with my Forte's.

Now I'll have to wait for my tax money to buy that new receiver.

I'm just now getting around to announcing my purchase because I'm on my 3rd set of RF-7 mains. The first 2 sets were damaged. The first set were damaged in shipping and the second set I think were Klipsch's fault. That's why I didn't try to buy them online for cheap, imagine the hassle it would have been to pack them up twice to ship back!

They are growing on me as far as how they sound compared to the Fortes. I think I will be pleased.

  2. I've had ForteII's for about 11 years and just last weekend moved them into the living room and replaced with the whole RF-7 line and I've gotta tell you the jury is still definately out. I'm driving the Fortes with an old 50 watt JVC receiver and they sound spectacular! The clarity, the prodigious and tight bass... I'm a rock and roll lover and I could never part with them.

According to Klipsch the RF-7 is 3db more sensitive than the ForteII but if I play the RF-7's at the same volume level on my Yamaha amp as I used to on my Fortes the RF-7's don't sound any louder to me. I have no measurements to back up my claim, it's just my opinion. I'm just damn glad I have a place for a 2 channel system as well.

My point is, the Fortes are well worth it!9.gif

  3. Here is a chance for everyone to throw in their $.02.

It's getting to the time to think about replacing my Yamaha DSP-A1000 Pro Logic pro/amp. My local retailer carries Yamaha,Pioneer,Sony and B&K. I intend to listen to them all but I'd like to have other opinions before making such a large purchase. Especially since I'm far from an expert.

My personal favorite (I know, I shouldn't have a favorite yet) is the B&K. The new AVR505 5 channel comes out the 10th I believe and will probably retail for around $3500. But I'd wait for a sale. I really only have room for 5 speakers anyway. Pioneer VSX-49tx is also $3500, I took a quick look at the price tag. The Yamaha RX-Z1 goes for about $2800. I don't believe it is THX certified. Is the THX really worthwile?

Sony I've already pretty much ruled out.

Oh yeah, phono input on the Pioneer and Yamaha. I do have a turntable, only use it a few times a year however.

Then there is Outlaw, 200w x 7 channel amp and pro/tuner for about $2500 and add about $115 shipping. (Paying shipping is alot cheaper than paying the 7% sales tax at the retailer).

But I really worry about buying something over the net like that. Used to work in shipping for a dept store and I know how that stuff is treated.

Ofcourse I can't hear the Outlaw first. Has anyone else used it? How does it work and sound? No THX on it either, but it's got everything else including bass management. And I could always just upgrade the processor on it eventually and keep the amp.

I'll be listening to the Pioneer,Yamaha and B&K thru RF-7's at my retailer. But you know, the acoustics are not the same as one's own home. And I intend to soon buy the whole reference setup and move my Forte II's out of my theater room and into the family room.

So how do does everyone think? And Happy New Year!9.gif

  4. I'm with you on the Academy Doug, I guess if someone thinks it's worth $550 and can afford to pay then that's between them and their wallet. But I wouldn't pay that.

I'd like to thank you for the input on the Heresy as a center, that may well be the way to go for me. I'll bet I could get a fine pair for $550.

  5. I'm glad I gave up also. $550 plus shipping is just to much unless it was brand new. The seller described it as having "no major scratches" whatever that means. Apparently the competition for the Academy is getting a little too fierce. I have room in my custom cabinet to put a Heresy under my TV and maybe that would be even better. I think I could even stuff two Heresy's in there. Wonder how that would work with my Forte'II mains?

  6. I don't know about Sony receivers, I've never owned one. But I can say that I bought a Toshiba Hi-Def direct view TV over a Sony like my parents bought to save a little money and I made a big mistake. Their Sony is far and away superior. Just my $.02.

  7. Thanks jhawk. So I think I'll not do anything just yet while keeping my eye out for an Academy. If I can snag one of those, then I'll start looking for a nice pair of Chorus ll's and squeeze my Fortes in as surrounds. Sounds like a plan to me!

If that doesn't work out, I guess plan B is to move the Fortes and amp out to the living room and start over with the RF-7 setup. (A little working overtime reguired with this plan.)

  8. Thanks for the info jhawk! Very helpful.

I'll think about all I've learned and after Xmas I'll make up my mind.

So you have the ChorusII's huh? I'd just like to say that those were my dream speakers when I bought my Fortes 11 years ago. I had bought my whole home theater setup at once so I couldn't quite afford the ChorusII's. But I've been thinking about them ever since. Jeez maybe I ought to try and look for a nice pair of them and use my Fortes as surrounds. It would be a tight fit for the Fortes as surrounds however.... But I just couldn't bear to part to with my Fortes, I haven't moved them since I bought them brand new and they are perfect in every way. Hmmm. Well I'm having a blast thinking of all of the possibilities!9.gif

jhawk is probably going to show up to answer this but just in case he doesn't I'll give a summation previous comments. jhawk thought the KV-4 was a bit too bright for his Forte II's and prefered his KV-3 until he picked up an Academy.

Sorry for putting words in your mouth, jhawk!

Looks like I'll may just have to keep hoping that someday, somewhere, I can pick up an Academy for a decent price. 8.gif

  10. I'll keep your KV-4 in mind also. What are the dimensions? I don't have a whole lot of room, my KG2.2V sit in a custom made TV stand just under the TV.

What do others think of the KV-4 with the Forte's?

I am planning on picking up my La Scala tomorrow to use as my center channel between my Belle's. So I will be parting with my KV-4 which would be an ideal match for your Forte II's. It is much larger than the KG 2.2V and can easily keep up with the Forte II's. It's efficiency is 99db with 1W which I believe is identical to the the Forte II's efficiency. It is in excellent to near mint condition, I don't not believe there is a mark on it but let me check it over. It is black in color, I believe the only finish that was available for it. I do have the original box and the adjustable feet that came with it as well. I will have to come up with a price as well.

  11. Thanks, I'll keep your C7 in mind. Don't know how well that would work with my Forte's.

  12. Greetings to all, this is my first post. Bought a hi-def TV and DVD player.

I now have the urge to upgrade my whole system. I've thought about going all the way with the whole RF-7 setup but my Fortell's are 11 years old and in perfect condition! I'm not sure, for all the extra money, that they would sound that much better than my Fortes. With the Academy being so hard to find, would the RC-7 be acceptable? At least that way I'd have a head start on the complete RF-7 setup. I've never been real happy with the performance of my KG2.2V with my Forte's. How about surrounds? I need to upgrade everything so the more I can save the better. Thanks in advance.
