  1. The woofer of my project is 97dB in efficiency, while the midrange(110dB) and tweeter(107dB) are way more efficient. I read that as you increase the throat area, the efficiency goes up(to the maximum when the throat area is eaqual to the driver) while the band width goes down at the upper range. Is that true or what?
  2. Hi, What if I change the throat area of K-horn bassbin from the original 13x3 to a round one that completely fits the woofer ? Thanks!
  3. Actually I don't have a pair of K-horn, but I like the concept of a fully horn-loaded system and I am now very certain that the bass from the folded horn is far from booming, muddy, or whatever was said. As a matter of fact I just plan to build a K-horn-like system which only take the advantage of the bass bin and, perhaps, the crossover network. I would never buy a pair of K-horns and do the things you thought to them. About the upstream electronics of the system, I remember they were : Linn CD player Klimo Merlin preamp with separate power supply unit and built-in Beag Bryston electronic crossover Maybe the Bryston is to blame for the imbalance of the mi-high and bass, I don't know. Just a thought. Thanks for your response anyway
  4. Hi, I recently listened to a pair of K-horn tri-amplified by Klimo Beltaine 300B(5W) and I think the mid and high were sort of harsh, but the bass was clear, though a little bit thin, just like my MBL 101's. I have also listened to a TAD system(ET-703 tweeter, TD-4001 mid-high with wood horn, 4 TL-1601 direct-radiating woofers/channel), which sounds great but costs more than 130K , so here is what I paln to do: 1. Replacing the crossover with AlK's(if this is impractical, then I will shift to Marchand tube crossover) 2. Silver wiring for the whole system 3. Replacing the tweeter with TAD ET-703 4. Replacing the mid-high with TAD TD-4001 with wood horn 5. Replacing the woofer with TAD TL-1602(with lower Fs(21Hz) and Qts(0.21) than 1601) 6. Two active subwoofers for the bottom end below 35Hz For your reference: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/Industrial/SpecificationDetails/0,1448,1541,00.html http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/Industrial/SpecificationDetails/0,1448,1539,00.html I know these drivers are not cheap, but they cost definitely much less than 130k Any comments will be appreciated!!!
  5. Hi, Where can I get or who could tell me the technical specifications of K-horn woofer, especially its sensitivity(or efficiency)? Here is what I think: Since the overall sensitivity of K-horn is 104dB, and usually the midrange and tweeter drivers are more efficient than the woofer, so the efficientcy of the woofer must be at least 104dB. Is that correct?
  6. Hi, For calculating the measurements of a tractrix horn, I need the parameter. Would anyone tell me what item in the following page does this parameter refer to? http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/Industrial/SpecificationDetails/0,1448,1541,00.html Thanks in advance
  7. Hi, For horn speakers, should the mid-high unit(s) toed-in to get the listener more focused, just like many of us do with the direct radiators? Someone(who uses Altec A5) says that horns are with higher energy than DR's and toeing in will easily make the sound harsh. Is that true?
  8. TBrennan, I know the advantage(and power) of multiple DR's(thinking of the bass tower of Genesis I), but the phase discrepancy of the drivers is always a problem, isn't it? Of course I thinnk the ear will be the judge. Thanks!
  9. JDM- For your reference:http://www.jkaudio.com.tw/english/jktad/sl-01.htm
  10. Gil, Quite a lesson for me, very informative. Thanks!!!
  11. Hi, it's me again As you know there are lots of horn speakers with a direct-radiating,rather than horn-loaded, driver for lower frequencies. They can also reach the efficiency up to 107dB, and are claimed to be able to be well driven by triode amps with a few watts. Frankly I like the design of K-horn, but what's its real advantage over others? Thanks!!!
  12. Hi, Just a thought: Can we get lower frequency response(than 35Hz) by constructing a K-horn in a larger scale with a larger, say 18", driver replacing the original one?
