  1. I don't even see a RX V480 listed on the Yamaha site.

    http://yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/gAVR00010

    The RX-V line is separated into 2 groups;

    the 1300, 2300, 3300 are the higher end group with the 3300 at the top running 130W X 6 channels + 25W X 2 effect channels.

The 430, 530, 630 & 730 are the bottom half with the 430 the very bottom of the barrel. So, if that's the one you have, I'm not too surprised that it lacks something.

I'd suggest looking for a good used 2 channel amp for your stereo needs and relegate that RX_V to movies. With the plethora of people upgrading from 2 channel to 6 or 7 channel systems, there are plenty of choices on good 2 cahnnel amps on the used market at very cheap prices. Just do the research and know what you are buying.

  2. I recently got a Yamaha RX-V2300 AV Receiver.

When I initially set it up, I only had a pair of KG 3.5 as mains and a sub, so in the set-up menu I set the center, surrounds & rear to "None".

My KG 2.2V Center arrived yesterday, so I hooked it up right away of course. I went back into Speaker Set and put the center back to LRG.

The 2.2 started playing immediatly... until I exited the Speaker Set menu, at which time it immediatly Stopped playing!

I went back into the Speaker Set menu and it started playing again, and when I exited it stopped again.

I've gone in & out every way I can find & I don't see any place to "save changes" but I can't get it to play the center without being in the Speaker Set menu.

    Help??

    Thanks

  3. I didn't get a chance to audition the SVS, but I did get to hear the Velodynes against the B&Ws.

Big difference... in comparison, the Velodyne sounded like the car boomin down the street analogy mentioned above.

The B&W (ASW600) sounded almost like there wasn't even a sub there. It blends so well, it's more like an extension rather than an entity of it's own. Very tight and musical. I'm quite happy with the choice.

I have the crossover set pretty low (55/60) as I don't want the Klipcsh to compete.

BTW, it does get up & move when called upon.

  4. OK

Where are all the Yamaha fans?

    HTR 5590, RX-V1300 both in the low to mid $500's on-line. Even last year's RX-V2200 is $580/600.

I know some say they are bright or forward and that the Klipsch are also bright so it makes a too bright combo...

    Hogwash

I've had Yamaha/Klipsch 2-Channel combo for 8 years and loved every minute.

I went shopping for a 6.1 A/V receiver and tried HKs, Denon 3803, Onkyo, Marrantz, Pioneer and every time I could A/B them on Klipsch against a Yamaha, it was no contest.

Maybe it's me & I like just the match-up, but I don't think so. There is a richness in this match you don't find everywhere.

Whichever way you are leaning, Go Listen before you decide.

  5. I agree with kjohnsonhp about not watching many movies more than once*.

Oh, sure there are a few standards/classics like Monty Python's Holy Grail or Caddyshack or the Good/Bad/Ugly or Scarface I would buy, but I mostly buy concert videos myself.

I recently got a Johnny Cash Anthology with some great old TV footage of his classic Cry, Cry, Cry & Hey Porter. There are some great Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD's out there, on Live at El Mocambo you are so up close & personal you can almost smell his Fender tube amp cooking!

Definitely get Listener Supported by Dave Matthews Band... Awesome DVD.

    Disclaimer:

*This opinion may change some when the 5.1 HT pieces I have on order get put together though...

  6. Yup, that was me.

I'm glad to hear you think it's a good deal, I thought so but I didn't really know what the 5.2's sold for used.

Compared to a new pair of 5.5's it's a steal!

I paid $350 for the pair of 5.2's + a 2.2 center. (about the price of an RC-3)

The seller didn't seem to know much about the center, I'm hoping it's the 2.2V not the 2.2 & he just didn't know... we'll see soon.

  7. Hi

I am buying a used KG-2.2 center channel speaker (with pair of KG-5.2's).

In checking the specs, it looks like the only difference was added magnetic shielding on the "V" version (about 4-lbs worth?).

Will a KG-2.2 without the shielding cause interference in my video?

Is that the reason the shielding was added?

Is there something I can do myself to add shielding to the 2.2?

What about upgrading the internal wires, will it make much difference?

    Thanks
