Mark5
I have a Denon Dvd 2900 I purchased several years ago is it still comparable to today"s dvd and cd players? Also will a new surround receiver be compatiable with the SACD and DVD-A function?
lo123
If a new surround receiver has dedicated 5.1 analog inputs, then you can run the 2900 directly in. You will not be able to interface via HDMI, you will not be able to play BluRay and you will not be able to upconvert standard DVDs to any of the hi def formats. Having said that, I plan to keep my 2900 for SACD and DVD-A disc playback via the 5.1 analog outputs regardless of a future receiver or disc player purchase. The 2900 is a sweet deck, I have been amazed by it since purchasing from a forum member who moved on to high def formats. So, comparable? Not in terms of the high def side of the equation. But desireable - yes, in my book, very much so. The Oppo deck that does SACD, DVD-A, standard DVD and BluRay is on my radar for future acquisition, but until then, the 2900 is my player of choice.
