jerryd
how do spikes work? (like a 4th grader can understand) does the spike material matter? will they work on tile floor? my fortes came witha spike platform. a custom made thick plexiglass triangle bass that the speakers sit on.does it matter that the platform is not attatched to speaker ? I was thinking it would be more effective if the spikes were screwed directly to speakers bases. but I dont really understand how they work in the first place... Guest " "
Yes they will work on a tile floor. 3 spikes is actually better than four spikes. They work by transfering weight to a smaller area. This makes the bonding to the floor greater. For example, a cabinet that is 2ft by 2 ft by 2ft wieghting 100 lbs but resting on four sliders that are 1 inch square is excerting 25lbs of weight per square inch. The same cabinet resting on 4 spikes with a point size of 1/64th would be like having a cabinet that weights 6400 lbs. 3 spikes work better than 4, becuase 3 spike will never wobble, 4 spike will rely on your floor being perfectly level.
