adding a center speaker

hello!

I purchased my v2-400's a few months after they came out and I love'em. However, I can't deny adding a center channel, maybe 2.1's as the center, would be toot sweet. And cheaper than buying 5.1's!

Like I said, I have the 400's, with a Philips Acoustic Edge (5.1) sound card running on Win XP Professional. I just upgraded to professional, and while it solved a ton of other problems, it had created one: Philips has decided to abondon their soundcards, and has yet to make a driver upgrade. For the most part the drivers work, but there are a few pop when changing tracks in winamp or starting the songs up, etc.

Anyway, now here's my question: I plugged in the rear-speakers to the center/LFE channel, and while they worked, they gave off an unusual buzzing sound. Not the regular low hiss that Klipsch's give off at high volume, but a buzz. I then tried plugging in the front speakers as well, and got the same buzz from them.

So, is it the sound card, or would I get the same result on a soundblaster audigy with updated XP drivers? I don't want to invest in 2.1's if they're just going to buzz like all hell.

Thanks to those brave enough to read this long post and help me out. Puppy dogs, ice cream, and good karma are in store for you.

1. Try buying a stereo -> 2X mono splitter, plug this into the center/sub output, then plug your rear speakers into that. One of the channels will carry the center signal, see if that one buzzes.

2. Try moving the SC to a different pci slot.
