toomanyspeakers
Has anyone had any experence with an optical cable going bad under normal use conditions? My DVD player has suddenly stopped working in the Dolby Digital of DTS mode. My cable box still works just in these modes.
Cleve
Are you getting two channel thru the optical cable when you play a CD? It's possible you inadvertantly switched OFF DTS and Dolby Digital in your DVD player's options, or something caused it to reset to defaults. On my DVD player, PCM decoding for DTS and 5.1 is default, not Bitstream (which has to be enabled)
toomanyspeakers
I have been in the setup menu several times. I am sure that its something that I have overlooked but I just can't figure it out. The unit is a SONY midline unit.
Cleve
But you are getting audio through the optical cable? If so, I really doubt it's a cable problem. What model number Sony? I'll do a google search and see if I can find an owner's manual. Jim
toomanyspeakers
I am not at home now but its about a year old with the digits 275 in the model number. It also plays SACD's. thanks dan
DrWho
Try wiggling the cable...i've had issues in the past where the optical cable doesn't sit perfectly in the jack and if it bends the wrong way, you get a nasty sound (or no sound at all).
