syd
Hi all, hoping you can help with a purchase descion I'm making. I'm looking to purchase a new receiver for my home theater system. My SONY TV has an HDMI input. Should I be looking to purchase a receiver with HDMI inputs/outputs also? Is there any advantage? I imagine there is, but I just don't know that much about it. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer!
dougdrake
If you expect to feed multiple source devices into your Sony, having HDMI output on your receiver would let it act as a switcher, and (I think, but better verify this) the receiver would convert these various signal types to HDMI. That could let you run a single HDMI cable to your Sony and avoid having a myriad of cables hooked to it. Also, if you only have 1 source component (DVD for example) and it does not have HDMI output, you may wish to have a receiver convert it to HDMI for, again, simpler cabling to your Sony.
