  1. Elysium is a well balanced movie with some of the current Geo-political major topics incorporated into the film. 4/5 stars.

We watched this last night, pretty good movie, didn't get to listen at normal levels due to the baby sleeping but the movie was good.

  2. Maybe they are taking a page form Epik, the subwoofer company, lol.

Yeah that's a crazy situation over there at Epik, not sure what went wrong with those guys but it's obvious they messed up somehow with their money. It's a shame too because their subs were great for the money. I know everyone is high on the Seaton Submersive but there is no way a single Seaton is going to out play dual Empires and you could get dual Empires for quite a bit less than the Seaton, hence the reason I went with Empires and they have been flawless, no bad amps yet over here.

Back to Emotiva, I'm not sure what to think about the XMC, I gave up on it to be honest. If it ever shows up I'll decide if I want to purchase it or not. I'm leaning towards possibly buying a HK 3700 or something if I decide to upgrade. One thing is for sure, the XMC will be out and sold a lot with tons of feedback on the forums before I take the plunge. I didn't buy the UMC until it was on it's 2nd to the last firmware because of all the issues I kept reading about.

  3. I've been getting nervous reading this thread as my wife got me an XPA 5 (gen 2) for Christmas that I've had for several weeks wrapped up but couldn't set up until last night due to endless toy assembly for the kids. I finally got it set up late last night, and I'm very very happy so far. No hum/noise and everything sounds great. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hear a difference, but I noticed a marked improvement. Far more than I expected. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend and some additional feedback once I've rerun audessey.

No need to worry, Emotiva's amps are rock solid and very reliable. I've had my XPA-5 and XPA-2 for over six years now. I got them on sale during the holidays back then and only paid $1300 for both if I'm not mistaken. They are not dead silent but you can't hear anything once a movie has started so to me it's not an issue. The new gen XPA is quite a bit quieter than the older one too.

  4. What reference models did you feel sounded lean? I can see how some of the smaller reference might sound that way.

I prefer the RF7, RF83 and RF7ii over my previous forteii and chorusii. They have a huge soundstage, commanding bass and work very well for both 2ch and HT. Give them some solid power and they open up and shine even more.

I did a ton of side by side with the rf-7ii vs the cornwalls. It was really fun to battle two great speakers separated by 30 years. When i was done it was clear to me why klipsch has been around so long. Both are great speakers that live up to all the hype they get. One does this better and the other this better. But they both have a very similar sound and explains why they almost called the rf-7s the RF-Heritage.

This was my experience as well between the RF-7 and the Chorus ll. I could not really pick a winner between the two. I ran the Chorus ll's for a few years and now I'm running RF-7's again.

  5. Just a side note, of all the movies that I have, The Grey is the most demanding on the system and subs. I have Oblivion, OHF, Cloverfied, LOTR, and pretty much all the major ones with LFE. The plane crash seen is so intense and the LFE are off the hook! I ran it last night and it has produced the highest wattage/amp use to date on my system. This beat every other movie by 2-300 watts. The rest of the movie is OK but few LFE.

Cool, we saw this in the theater when it first came out. I thought it was a decent movie and now that I hear this I'll have to add the Blu-ray to the collection! It's always good to find new demo material.

  6. I don't mind going pro, as long as I can find a Youthman's special.

Try it, you may just like it!

Beautiful... I am going pro as soon as we get the new theater room built. I've had pretty much every speaker out there that Klipsch makes that's not pro other than the Palladium series stuff. I love all of them but the sound I seek is what I heard at a local venue awhile back and the only way to get that is using the 402 horn I think. I can see the 402 on top of the four 15's bass bin. Yes, that setup makes my mouth water.

  7. Do you run yours between your pre and amp (i do)? Or do you use the tape in and out? I run it between the pre and amp so it can be used with movies,tv, and music.

I run mine the same way, so it is in use with every source. I like mine showing in my living room rack, I like the dancing red lights. I would not turn them on in my theater room but I like them in my two channel setup.
  8. The one are that the B&W's beat the RF-7's were in the amount of bass they produced. Hard to believe but they do. No doubt about it. Sometimes, the B&W's can have too much bass and sound a bit boomy. The RF-7's provide adequate amount of bass and it's tight and sounds very natural.

Nice write up, great photo's and I'm not really surprised by this. I added an EQ to my two channel setup and it made a big difference, it allows me to bring out the bass without pushing the system to 110 dB. Those RF-7's will move some serious air, they just need a little help getting it out sometimes.
  9. It was a pretty awesome movie. It has top notch video. Beautiful, vivid colors. Lots of cool cars, and gorgeous women. And it has great audio. Not much LFE effects but the music in it is just awesome. Although there is one scene in the first party he throws where they introduce a female dancer and she comes out and starts twirling around and the music winds up and then BOOM! Some killer bass.

I agree the movie was great, kind of sad too. I do however disagree about the music. I thought it was ridiculous that they used Jay Z's music in this film that was taking place in 1922 long before rap or hip hop was even thought about. I know it was a Jay Z film but it would have been a lot better if they used more appropriate music IMO. Loved the movie, felt like the Jay Z music was totally out of place however when it was used.
  10. guys i need your help i have klipsch rf 7 front rc 64 center and rs 62 surround for ht now i think to upgrade them to front Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand , Center Maestro Grand Center and surround Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand

so it will be rell upgrade or klipsch for ht use better..

From the review I read about the Vienna's they are a totally different sound than Klipsch. They will not be as dynamic as Klipsch so for a HT room they would not be my first choice. From "reading" about them, they seem like they are very nice sounding speakers but lack the SPL capabilities Klipsch has. My best suggestion is to go listen to them in person and see what you think. They seem to be very well made so go find out if they sound good to your ears.
  11. I think the reference line sounds great overall but is dry in the midrange and doesnt have that natural sound inherent with the heritage. Its just an observation I have made.

I disagree. Three way is not the holy grail by any means. The RF-7's are fully capable and when they are in their sweet spot they are amazing in their own right.
