  1. Not a joke, and a taste I learned to enjoy from my dad.

Fresh lime squeezed, cracked pepper and tabasco over bristling sardines, thinly slices onion and sliced aguacates. Best when paired with "Games" (Mexican) saltine crackers. If I'm feeling special I'll add fancy smoked baby oysters and sour pickles.

My wife initially thought I was crazy, as did both of our girls... but they've come to enjoy snacking on it and don't gross out or think it's as horrible as they once did.

He pleaded guilty in 2018 to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to pay almost $8.2 million in restitution."

Border Patrol agents must get paid very well

The Cartel pays big bucks to the lower level BP agents working check points. More than a few have been busted in South Texas, probably the same all along the border, all the the way to Califa. Hell, some years ago the Sheriff of Zapata Co. and a few of his deputies were caught escorting loads. South Texas becomes an entirely different country when you get within 100 miles of the border. It's like a light switch.

In the 70's and early 80's I would take my dogs (8 of them, G. Shepards, Wolfcross, Dobermans and a Blue Lacy) with me down to the river (RioGrande) swimming and protection. While checking my traps or troutlines it was not uncommon to watch the Mexicans crossing with huge bundles or bails of MJ balanced on their heads. There are many shallow areas where anyone can just walk across. But they did not bother me and  I did not bother them, we'd acknowledge that we say one another and then they'd vanish into the carrizo.

There are many poor neighborhoods in Laredo (Azteca, Chacon, Sal Si Puedes, Rio Bravo) some can make the dumps in the Ozarks and Kentucky Mnt's look like 5 star resorts. The typical house is less than 400 SF, some houses made of cardboard, I shyt you not, then out of no where, a Mansion pops up surrounded by these homes. These are scattered all over Laredo, and there are hundreds and hundreds of used car lots scattered throughout the city.  Police know better than to patrol these areas, and they're corrupt to the bone too. 15 or 20 years ago the FBI opened a headquarters in Laredo, it's huge building for Laredo, and it looks like a prison compound.

I have to ask.... sorry,...... what makes you believe that a disagreement between SCOTUS's is "Honest" and not "Political"?

OK, my filter inlets are the old style with a lip that will accept a 1" filter.  The entire housing is about 5 or 6 inches deep.

The Honeywell filters are designed to work with the 1" lip.  The Lennox filters look like the type that fir in a different type of box.

Are you using the lennox filters in a box with the 1" lip and somehow made them work?

Huge amounts of dust where I live.

Back-Up... beep... beep ... beep.......... this is the filter we use. Sorry, I mistakenly clicked on the wrong one.  The Merv 11 was the very first type I tried when experimenting with the swap from the orig. fiberglass filters.

This is the filter with the activated charcoal, these are the filters the family prefer, or that our pollen sensitive daughter noticed a difference with.

The filter fits inside the plastic housing that is part of the Lennox system. The plastic housing slides in & out of the Air-hander. It was designed or appears designed to accept multiple thicknesses in the (20"x25")xt" class size category. The box is a bit more than 6" thick.

Go buy yourself a Alen Breathe Smart, or some type of HEPA air filter for your favorite room. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how effective they are.

Do you have a link the the Lenox filters?

Are your systems designed for 1" filters or the deep filters?

All three systems have a removable filter housing. One side has a grab handle which is hinged on one side and the other side has snaps to open and lock closed. It's about 5" (never measured it) thick, so these filters fill the entire cavity whereas the fiberglass ones fit in slots.

Here's a link I copied from my Amazon account. They're very effective. Both my wife and one of our daughters is sensitive to dust, oak pollen etc. Too damn many allergies... but with these things, after I started using them, ALL GONE. She can come inside the house and it's over.

Don't want to derail this but anyone have experience with these filters?

My HVAC blower is 20 years old and designed for a fiberglass filter.  Can I use a 4" deep MERV 11 with its significant size?

You will be fine, because that's exactly what I'm doing. My home was constructed in 2004, I tossed the shytie fiberglass filters and installed activated carbon Merv 11's (by Lenox). Have 3 different units (not sure of capacity, but they're big'uns). Going on 11 yrs. now, no problems other than a blown capacitor at the compressor.

The system also has infrared light to kill mold; I change those every other year.

yep, "Clean" water is in short supply

Dad paid to 5 water wells drilled at one of the family ranches; He even paid a pretty penny to have large solar arrays setup to power the pumps. About 5 or 7 years later the oil/gas companies started experimenting with different solutions that they would inject during fracking.... today, every well is polluted (water smells funny). The paid a pretty penny to build new tanks and new (deeper) wells, but IMHO we're just one of thousands and thousands of ranches with same problem.

Good morning everyone. Earlier this year most who live in the west had to deal with hazardous levels of air pollution due to the many forest fires. ‘‘Twas then that the wife and I bought a Dyson brand air purifier/fan because even the indoor air was pretty awful. We don’t live in a huge home (by most standards). We have just over 1,700 square feet but it does have some volume with one great room (where the stereo resides).

That began over a month ago and that Dyson is running 24/7. It is not their largest unit and I believe it cycles about 5.5 cubic feet per minute. It claimed to filter out particulates and noxious gases, etc with a hepa filter, blah, blah, blah....... Here to report that the silly thing really and truly has made a massive improvement in our lives. For starts there is an overtly lower level of dust.... everywhere. We live in ‘dust land’ and never have we enjoyed such a clean environment. That has resulted in far less congestion. Less congestion means no snoring, better sleep. Previously we had visible dust return after a matter of days on cleaned surfaces. Now it does not return at all (seriously). Granted, we do keep the house closed and it is a tight structure. But there’s no nasal drip, no sneezing and no more constant throat clearing. I had no idea how badly our untreated home impacted our general health. This has made a real difference in our lives. From here forward anywhere I live will include adequate air filtration. I am even gonna find some for the cars.

Not specifically endorsing Dyson as a product but it is working for us. The unit cost was around $500 which included a replacement filter (from Amazon). But there’s quite a selection and price range for similar devices and larger structures will require larger systems. For those of you with turntables and ye olde records a dust free environ would have to be quite an advantage.

    Just an FYI.

    Alen BreathSmart.

I've been using air purifier's for decades.... that not a type-o.

The Alen BreathSmart is hands down the best and quietest I've owned. The automode and nighttime (no lights) feature make them desirable for me. I'm weary of Dyson products, but have not tried their air purifiers.

Silly, I know... first wife passed away from malignant melanoma. Second wife is a wonderful Filipina. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary. Enjoying  weekend away in a cheap motel and having fun. It doesn't matter much what goes right or wrong, we are together. Blessings to all!

Does the bed have a coin operated shaker..... that's the real sign of a cheapass motel.

Actually throat cancer, not lung cancer.  Cigarettes for one didn't help.  He also thought that holding metal guitar picks in his mouth for years contributed to it.

Thought I read lung cancer on local media, i.e. instagram or twitter, cant remember. After reading your reply and searched the web and found a couple of consistent posts.... seems it started as cancer on the tongue (metal picks???) that spread to the throat/esophagus.

What kind of metal is used for a guitar pick?  I thought they were all plastic.

.....   For example a Fisher 500B 65 watt receiver was selling for $249.50 in 1965 dollars. Not sure how that transfers to 2020 dollars but as you can see we have outstanding deals in 2020. All electronic products were expensive at that time. Not so much for conventional speakers. Pretty much the same prices if converted to 2020 dollars.

Contradiction of sorts, I'm confused.  as used above, what the difference between transfers and converted?   not much as far as I can tell.

It costs 2  grand to re-tube it today.

    JJK

Depending on your listening pleasures or preferences, a single high fidelity,  or dare a say, "Stereophile Grade", 12AX7 or even a 6DJ8 can run solidly over $1,000.00 each. Yes, I've been to the well and drank the water and as stupid as that sounds (pun intended) I found something that worked. I've spent years and way too much money trying to find something special or that worked for me. I'd like to think it was worth the price of the listening adventure, but considering the condition of my ears (left ear particularly) I have my doubts, but I'm done. I found a sound that I enjoy very much. During my tube adventures I once chased down and purchased a NOS quad of KT88 Genalex Gold-Lions thinking they would be the catsass.... WRONG!!

Goldlions were the single biggest waste of money. The power tube adventure took me backwards at times.... I was convinced there was something wrong with the tubes, I drove 200 miles one way to get them tested by a good friend with a Hickock 539C only to learn the tubes were functioning perfectly. Long power-tube story short, nothing beats the Tong Sol black plates (single, double or triple getter) for my system. TungSol mopped the floor with the Goldlions at less than 1/2 the price..... which has changed significantly since that time.

Buying tubed gear is an adventure, you wont' know that until you start experimenting and swapping tubes.

    EDIT:

After I had the Goldlions tested, went and purchased my own NOS'y 539C. Which I never learned to fully use, but sold it at triple the price I paid to a nut in Germany. So, buying tube gear can lead you down a path you never thought you would ever take. At least it was that way for me.

  19. My first album was a Mototown label....   staring the Jackson 5; "ABC " purchased the album at ABC Music store in downtown Laredo. Use to ride the bus by myself. I'd go visit my grandfather and listen to some cool story's about dad, then grandfather would usually give me 3 bucks, and I'd run to ABC Music store to oooh & aaaah over the gear and see what I could afford, which wasn't much.
