  1. Got the titanium tweeter diaphragms today from Bob. Installing only took about 15 min. Huge improvement - do it! Much smoother and almost all of the Klipsch "cupped hands, megaphone like" shouting is gone! Well worth the money. Also got the crossover caps today. Not quite as quick to install those :-) Put 2 of the sonic caps on the board and laid the 3rd one on top of the first two caps and secured with hot glue. I didn't do the woofer cap as the ones provided were axial leads and required a smaller one in parallel to get the required value. Didn't see a good way to install those so I left it alone for now. At first, the highs were bright and over emphasized for about a half hour until the caps settled in, then it mellowed out. I noticed a big improvement in the focus of the center image, it's very solid now. Also in the width & depth of the soundstage. I'm getting sounds several feet past the outer edges of the speakers now, where before all the sound was trapped between the speakers. Wasn't sure at first, but it looks like the new caps were really needed. Also installed new Cardas binding posts to replace the stripped out plastic junk that was on there. Had to space the board away from the terminal cup to clear them but all it took were some nylon spacers & longer screws. So nice to have a firm and tight connection! TR
  2. Thanks for the info. Earlier this week I ordered new titanium drivers and a replacement cap kit from Bob. Don't have them all yet, but should be able to install them this weekend. Got to replace the stripped out plastic binding posts with some nice Cardas posts anyway so while it's apart... BTW, interesting thing with the Berning amp. I set the feedback to the highest setting and the sound improved greatly. Eliminating all toe in helped a lot too. TR
  3. Just picked up a 1990 vintage pair of Forte II speakers, and wondered what exactly does a cap upgrade do for the sound of these speakers? Currently running them with a Bottlehead SEX amp, but will have Bottlehead Paramount mono blocks running them once the kit arrives and is assembled. Strangely, the speakers sounded better being ran with the SEX amp than the much more expensive Berning ZH-270. Chalk it up to system synergy I guess. TR
  4. Found a pair of La Scala's for sale in the paper that I'm going to look at tomorrow. The guy says they are black and in good shape with no scratches. What is the aproxamate value of these speakers? Also, Can anyone tell me the age? The serial numbers are 185401-2 Can't seem to find an E mail or phone number for Klipsch, so thought I'd post it here. Thanks.
