  1. Front Stage, I will eventually redo the stand when I go flat panel. The TV is 8 feet away from the seating. You can see the area behind the couch isn't the best ...my wife doesn't want to lose the french door. The area right above it and the pass-through is 8" tall. It's enough for the RS-35 which I am probably going to use.
  2. I have had these for several years. I have read many replace the caps and get back the original sound. I had thought about upgrading to modern crossovers sold by members here, but I don't think I need to go to that level. Is there a refresher guide/link out there?
  3. My listening room is finalized and unfortunately was a compromise. I cannot place a floor mounted speaker behind the listening position (nor to the side). The couch is about 3 feet in front of the back wall and the arm is against the left side wall. the right side wall is about 10-12' away from the right arm of the couch...it's a 16x22' room, just with some built-in's that limit my placement of my home theatre gear). There is a large pass-through opening directly behind the listening position as well that limits me to about 8" of height. and about 11" if I modify the ceiling tile. The speaker would have to be wall mounted there. If I went on the side walls I could mount a large speaker to the right of it and about 10-11 feet away on the other wall..I don't think this would be good for balance even with time-delay/level attenuation. I have a 7 channel Yamaha HTR-5960 if it matters. Listening level is always moderate to low really as my wife doesn't like the explosions...I listen to my movies from time to time solo at much higher volumes...my front stage is adequate. I am not sure what speakers would work best, the KG series came well recommended but they are ported mostly and will be a problem to wall mount. The SS/RS types seem to be ideal as far as how they'd mount...I heard from they are terrible matches to pretty good. Thanks for any advice Å
  4. What was your setup 2 Forte and 3 Academy or something else? I really wanted to do Chorus, Academy and my Quartets for rear.
  5. They would be angled down especially to provide room for the rear port. I cannot place them ear level otherwise I'd just get floor standers (probably move my quartets back there and pick up Chorus')...there is no room unless I ruin the room. I can adjust each speakers time alignment. Just wasn't sure if that would still cause issues. Between the KG.5 - 1.5 there isn't too much difference in the 'height' measurement I will be constrained by. So I opted for 2.5's...I could probably use academys with a little more modification, but I don't think the price premium would be worth it for rear movie usage.
  6. I am trying to use KG's...I really can't use floor standers. The room is decent up front. My quartets and academy are well placed. My rear is a problem due to a pass through and double doors on the wall. How bad would it be to have the Left front and rear speakers in line, but the right rear about 3-4 feet further outside than the front right? I am slanting toward KG 2.2/2.5's and they will be almost directly behind (~2 ft behind is the wall) the listener at ceiling level.
  7. The KG 2.2/2.5 would still fit better, but I'd still need to deal with the backport. Once I go past 8" roughly I am at the drop ceiling and then modification to it is necessary.
  8. They absolutely would not fit. I need the speakers up above the one doorway as putting a speaker in front of it would block it. That's why I am limited to a speaker at most 11.5" tall. My hope was to move my Quartets to rear surround and get some chorus II's ... I may still buy some Chorus' but I'd move my Quartets to another room.
  9. 6-8" may be pushing it. The speaker location is right above a doorway. The speaker bottom would sit right at the top of it. From the listening position to the wall behind it is only 30" roughly and if I extended them, I couldn't do much of an angle (maybe 30deg) SS-1's or worse an RS would fit perfect...but I'd really like to do this right even if I have to modify the ceiling tiles a bit.
  10. I am trying to find a decent pair of smaller surrounds for my quartet/academy setup. I have a narrow wall space that is only 8" tall but can be expanded to 11" with some modification to the drop ceiling. SS-1 or SS-3's are used by some people with heritage and they seem to like them, but the KG will be closer to the overall sound of mine. How far would the port on a KG2.2/2.5 need to be away, I am assuming 1-2 port widths that's common. Thanks Å
  11. I wouldn't go down the wuss line with me...I will just leave it at that. I am a fully intact male, but I also know what battles are important. Do you keep your wife on a leash or something? Does she not contribute as well? Klipsch themselves as well as quite a few posters have said the SS will be adequate in a theatre setup. The KG's aren't an exact match either. If I can get the SS or an RS installed and have it work well I am only out a few hundred bucks at most and I have not modified my ceiling for what would still be an unmatched speaker.
  12. I have been playing with mock ups and I may lose this battle to the wife unit. Without modifying my ceiling I can fit an SS-1 or RS-25 exactly in the space between the doorway and ceiling (actually I'd have to trim a little bit off the trim molding) or a SS .5 with a bit to spare. If I pop out a ceiling tile, the KG's will work I think, but my wife just isn't digging the ceiling altered to do this...and I can't really be sure if it will look decent when done. Until I have the speaker and actually mount it there is no telling really what I am working with In talking to some other people I have been told if I am not focusing on music, it's really not such a big deal. Some have said the SS-1's went well with their heritage setup. I wish I could listen to these somewhere and compare. I hate buying something like a speaker without hearing it myself.
  13. I was looking to pick up an older sub. Size is not so important as impact and sound quality over just raw SPL..
  14. Have to think about this....since non-2 channel music is not really a concern of mine they stated matching harmonics is not so much an issue and I should consider what is best for my space...even in-ceiling options. How much room does the 2.2 port need behind it? I have room depth and width....just my height is limited.
  15. looks like all the KG's are... I am going to give a call to Klipsch and see what they recommend.
  16. I have a set of Quartets...had them for about 12 years now and I finally got back an Academy (sold my original back in 1997 or so thinking it'd be easy to replace). I just bought a house so my listening room is pretty set for a while now . I am planning on going to KG 2.2/2.5's for rear surrounds as this is the largest speaker I could really fit in the rear (along the rear wall/ceiling above a doorway and pass through). I will be adding a sub and was wondering if going Chorus/Fortes would make a big difference. I wish I could hear them locally. My listening room is about 21x15 which I have broken into two areas one for the actual listening area (12 wide x 15 deep) and a bar area to the side about 9x15. What would be a good sub selection as well? Currently I am running 100W per channel through a Yamaha HTR-5960. I will begin picking up amps once my speakers are dialed in little by little. Thanks Å
  17. Looks like no matter how I do it I am going to have to modify the drop ceiling...I am going to go with a KG 2.2 or 2.5 setup back there.
  18. I will have to remeasure for the KG .5's...can they take a side mounting? I can't find a picture of the rear of them ebay is blocked here, but I will check there as well. I will still have to alter my ceiling for these as they are 8.5 wide.
  19. I was hoping to move my quartets to the rear and pick up some Chorus or Fortes as mains (I still may pick up Chorus or Fortes as mains), but my listening room in my new home just won't fit the Quartets well enough in the rear (or even heresy's for that matter).. I am a limited space about 7" tall (I could go 9" high if I pop the drop ceiling and a bit larger if I cut and box the drywall above it which I'd rather not do) and about as wide and deep as needed. The SS-1/RS-25/35 would fit well. I saw a thread that Klipsch recommended a SS-1 setup to another member with my setup, but that was 2 years ago and I am not sure if things have changed. The KG .5/1.5/2.5 seem popular too. They may take some work to fit though. I had bought the Insignia NS-B2111's as temporary surround duty in my apartment, but even these are too big without altering my drop ceiling which I rather not do for a $50 set of speakers. Anyone have recommendations. I am at a disadvantage as I really can't listen to many of these easily since they are discontinued.
  20. I have the Best Buy Insignia NS-B2111's ... a cheap ($50) but decent rear surround while I was in an apartment. My plan was to go to either Chorus II's and move my Quart's to the rear or another pair of Quart's. Some told be to go Heresey in the rear, and even though it's not timbrally matched...it may be an easier placement. The Insignia's are about 9" across and I only have 7.25" unless I cut the ceiling tiles to mount them (not a big deal, but these weren't the 'end game' of my planned system) I could put two speakers behind the sofa so that the outside edges of both are about even with the sofa. I don't really use the one french door alot and if I did it's not to hard to slide a speaker over. I would have to move the sofa a few inches forward anyway. The french doors do look nice, but later down the road I may take them out and make a nice trimmed entry way. I may wife-proof the room with a slide door blast rated door at that time...I think I have the attic space to house it while open
  21. you have to cut and paste the links, I will move the pictures to a better site when I get home that will allow indirect linking.
  22. My new family room is a rather difficult room for HT. The 'TV' wall is shared with a large built in desk to the right of the viewing position. The total room is 20x15 with about 10-12x15 usable for the setup. I have the TV on the 20 foot wall and one of the Quartets in the corner area (about 6" away from the walls). The other Quartet is on the right of the tv and 6" away from the wall behind it. My viewing position is about 8 feet away, problem here is directly to the right of the viewing area is a double french door. Only about 6" of space above it and since the doors open into the room I can't place a floor standing speaker unless I make the placements assymetrical with the left rear speaker directly behind the couch in a corner and then the other speaker about 6' to the left of the couch. The left of the sofa is almost to the wall so side placements don't work Due to the one french door about half the sofa space next to it is unusable because the door opens into the area. Would floorstanders directly behind the sofa work? If so what would blend well with the Academy/Quartet setup I have? An example: Bird's Eye: http://30moons.com/images/HTRoom.gif Looking from TV to sofa http://30moons.com/images/HTRoom2.gif about 2-3' behind the sofa to the wall, about 8 feet from the left wall to french doors (the size of the sofa).. There is a suspended acoustic celing so I could use about 12" of space above the french doors to mount surrounds. There is only 6" from the top of the doors to the bottom of the ceiling tiles. Help... Chris
