  1. Do the Bob Crites mods get reflected in resale values? I think we can agree they positively affect the sound from the speakers. However, I haven't seen the modifications reflected in some of the asking prices here, on CL, or on Ebay.

I agree, I have bought and sold many different klipsch speakers over the years and it seems that I almost "NEVER" get back the upgrade costs. I know the upgrades sound better and plot better but I think for some it actually makes the Heritage line loose its heritage.

Greg, IMHO ever change you make from original shrinks the potential buying market unless, original equipment (crossovers, drivers etc.) is sold along with the set so buyers can do thier own A/B. When doing this I have seen a slight increase in selling cost.

What exact model are you all referring to and is this used or new? Oppo

Oppo is only currently selling the BR players but you can find the other models on the bay. Here are the specs from the Oppo site, you have to look under "Customer Service" then "Support" to find the models.

    Oppo DV-981HD

    Oppo DV-980H

    Oppo DV-780HD

    Oppo OPDV971H

Anyone better than the other? Seems the 981HD is the best huh?

  3. How about a pair of Dynaco Mark III's or his VRD. They would drive them nicely. I wish I would have had my III's when I had my 7's. Just a side note an older SS amp like a McIntosh MC 1st generation line has high output in watts but yet a tube like sound.

  4. Rick, I also had a pair of RF7's that I sold. However I think I would give them a dance again. If so I would use tubes on the horns and SS on the woofers driven by tube pre with active crossover.

This will give you everthing you need. I have also heard the heritage line and owned Belles and Khorns ( present ) they also have "flaws".

The best I have ever heard with my 7's was running a Scott 233 push pull 40watt tube amp. I also ran with a 299B Scott but sounded a little bright. You should borrow an active croosver and give it a whirl before selling. If you were close to me I would bring my stuff and have a listen.

  5. Dylani,

What is "on the cheap" to you? What is max you will spend?

    Bill

I would spend 200.00 but for that, I would want to be happy with it for quite a few years. From what I read, to get a DAC for my computer that is any good would be around 1,000 and that is way over the top for my budget.

I bought the old TOSHIBA that all the talk was about a few years back ( on this forum 59.00 ). It served me well but is now falling apart. I wobbles so bad it shakes the other audio equipment around it. In the end I would like something that puts out a nice "warm signal" The Ground Grid preamp seems to make the Khorns a little bright again.

  6. If I were you I would stick with the 5.5's over the RF3's. I have owned both and the rf3's may have a little better mid range but overall I was very dissapointed with them. I would however look into the RF7 which IMHO is better in all ways to the KG. You can get a pair for around 800 - 900 as the market is bad right now but you would be better off saving your money then dump it into the 3's,

  7. I used their wire in the past and really liked it ( KNUkonceptz ). I did not like the spades they sent. You are correct, you don't need anything more but I also like nice wiring. Go figure.

Word of caution they shorted me 1' on my over all wire purchase so make sure to measure when you get it. They said they would resend but I ordered extra so no big deal.
