  1. The magnets seem strong and the drivers read 7.3 and 6.9 in resistance. Al Klappenberger told me that these should work just start with the tap settings low around 0-1. He also said to watch because the volume could burn out the drivers ( see response below ). Al I have the adapter and have tried that and it sounds great. I was just >wondering about using the Altec drivers if it was better or worse. Reply from Al.... "The Altec driver are better, but the horn itself is the big improvement. You can use the Altec drivers by changing the transformer taps. If they are 8 ohm drivers, try taps 0-1 to start and be very careful with the volume control!" So I guess my 1st question is) are these 8 ohm drivers? 2nd question) How do I know which poll is positive and which is negative on these there are no markings?
  2. I have run the adapters also and I agree they are better that way but I would like to hear those Altec drivers. Anyone have a guess of which seires they are? Thx
  3. Yes I have the original crossovers I think the universal. I want to use the drivers that came with these I just can't find any markings on them. If I post pictures do you think you could tell the driver type? Thanks
  4. Not even a view? What has happened here not many visiting? This used to be a popular modification to a Khorn. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. I have a pair of 511 horns and drivers. Is there any way I can hook them up to my ALK crossovers or would I need to make a change to get the right sound out of them?
  6. Its a thrift store special. I think 25.00 but if I can get something much better for 100.00 I am not the kinda of guy to shine up a terd. I'd rather pay a little more.
  7. It seems to be in good shape but I have no idea about vinyl and don't want to spend to much on a bad model. What would you pay? Thx
  8. For 300.00 would I not be better to put an extra few bucks and get Blu ray? I woould think so.
  9. I guess Bluray but I don't care about buying Blu ray DVD ( Too expensive ). WHat is the up side? Is it that the Blu ray players upgrade the old DVD's? Some have said SOny PS3 or Sony S550. I can get an old time Toshiba for abot 50.00 please help me see why I woul;d want tospend the extra.

  11. I forgot to mention that I had to put 5 hrs in the top in sanding and refinishing to get the flower pot stain out onf the veneer. Oh well lets see what these go for and that will help feel better or worse. http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-KG-5-5-MEDIUM-OAK-SPEAKERS-VERY-GOOD-CONDITION_W0QQitemZ170291646728QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item170291646728&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
  12. Ok, just bought one deliverd for 101.00. Well I bought the 5.5 speakers for 185.00 which I thought was a good deal and now with the WOOFER that good deal is not so good[|-)]
  13. Thanks I will try tomorrow. Expensive for a 10" driver? They can not rebuild can they?
  14. Found that the 10" driver marked k1023K is shot on a pair of KG5.5 that I just bought. Anyone know where I can get a replacement? Would Klipsch still carry these? TRied to call them but it was after 5:00PM. Thanks
  15. Have any thoughts on a good active for a reasonable price?
  16. The crossover design is the ALK type A crossover BTW, I did read the instructions seeing that I built them (DIY) and yes the instructions comment on Bi-amp operation. The instructions specifically say this network was not designed for bi-amp operation but could be used if a low level crossover was ahead of the amps ( Thank you Dean for pointing that out to me I stand corrected LOL ). So if that is the case why use the ALK's at all? Why not just get an active or in-line? Thanks Speakerfritz for your replies and help. I don't visit here often anymore but I see some things never change. Forgot to ask which Parts express inline do you recommend?
  17. I have been running this set up for quite some time now and wondering how I can tweak it to make it sound a little better. Horns - ALK crossovers ( NO way that I know to bi-amp ) driven by Dynaco Mark 3 Tubes Woofer - Straight wired from Dynaco ST410 200 watts per channel SS This bi-amp seems at times to make the woofer try to go to high, making it at sound like its working to hard on the upper frequencies. The bass is down right almost overbearing sometimes. It could also be my room with a 100hz jump but I did not see it as bad when driven with just the ALK's. So, the question, can I run a inline crossover and tune the woofer down so to speak or what about a cap just to tame things down a little? What is the crossover on the ALK woofer section? Lastly could I build a cheap crossover for just the woofer? Thanks for any help I am looking for a quick and cheap fix if you have any thoughts. I could always just go back to the Mark 3 alone but I feel as if I have gained by using the bi-amp but just maybe the lack of an Xover is pushing the woofer to high for what it was made to do.
