  1. As for joesportster's suggestion of boycotting buying gas for 3 or so days.....that won't do anything. Why? Because folks will all fill up before the three days commence and then rush to fill up afterwards.

No, what needs to happen is for ALL of us to start buying from one or two brands only. That means for days and maybe weeks, the other companies will sell nothing. That's when the law of supply & demand kicks in and the starving stations lower their price in order to stay alive. That would then force other staions to follow suit. I personally think this would only have to happen once for the oil companies to get the message.

What we really need to do is stop buying gasoline for a whole month! That's when the law of supply & demand kicks in and the starving stations lower their price in order to stay alive. I personally think this would only have to happen once for the oil companies to get the message.

Perhaps the price just needs to get to 10.00/gallon for us to get the message?

  2. woo,

That's a good idea. I can add a Sunfire tube preamp to the show and tell list.

I think that we have one member who will be bringing a pair of very nice JFL 2A3 SET monoblocks.

    AWESOME!

So...... Gilbert.... were you serious about bringing a second set of Cornwalls? I know you were floating the idea out there, but it would be awefully nice if you did. [;)]

  3. This is what happens to one's mind when they get rid of a perfectly good pair of Klipschorns... [:D]

Ouch. I knew somebody'd have to bring that up.[:$]

You got rid of Khorhs and now you are reminiscing about 901s????

Well, yeah. If you'll notice, there's a whole bunch of klipsch owners with a Bose daliance in their deep, dark past. And some who still have a pair around.

I think it has more to do with the search for quality and being sucked into an extremely effective marketing ploy on the way to nirvana. After hearing the Cornwall, I never listened to the Bose 901 again. At low volumes they absolutely sucked big time. At high volume they sorta shine, but they always have this phase induced haze that is kind of like an overdose of Nyquil. To me anyway.

  4. Guys, it is about KLIPSCH speakers, do you really wanna run yourselves nuts swapping electronics? I'd settle for some xover a/b tests IF sufficient setup is done that they can really be A/B'd. Thanks

    Michael

I hear what you're saying, but it looks like there may be two pairs of Cornwalls (Gilbert?? hint hint!!). and if there are at least two pre-amps there can always be a pair playing while setting-up the second pair. Personally, I would get a huge kick out of hearing stuff that's highly regarded by folks here. Be sure to bring some of your favorite CD's, Michael.

  5. I'm bringing my 76 Cornwalls. Bob C is bringing a set of his new type B Crossovers. I would love to hear your Cornwalls with the ALK's.

If we have two pair we can always be playing some tunes whilst the other pair is having its innards messed with!

I'm also bringing my Scott 208 power amp. There will be a Merlin there, I'm sure.. maybe a SET amp for fun.

  6. The day I brought my Cornwalls home was the day the 901 VI's went silent. I was always fiddling with the tone controls trying to get a sound that I liked. I didn't sell them, however. Currently they are on permanent loan to a friend whose rather cheap speakers died. His family loves the sound, and admittedly, if set up correctly, the 901's can put out a heap of sound!

  7. BS,

The loudness contour on the 299B I scored recently (and have feeding the Khorns) is not exactly to my liking, and I've taken to just listening to everything flat. It ain't bad, ya know.

The loudness contour on the 355 is wonderful at low volumes.

There is the Scott 130 preamp, but that ain't a new thing.

re: your question on the Cornwalls... uh.. NO!! [:P]

  8. BS, I would be happy to let you use my Scott 355 for a tube pre-amp listen. It has Telefunken 12ax7's and really sounds smooth. While I don't think this is the route you are wanting to go, it *does* sound nice. The Merlin will undoubtedly sound better (but lacks the loudness countour I love so much).

My 355 will ultimately be sold to some unknown person who wants a phono stage and a tube tuner.

  9. Very nice Todd, can't wait to hear it.

What is that behind woodog, can it be a PEAVY pa cabinet. For shame.

I can explain! When that picture was taken in Sept. 2001, I had just bought a powered head XR-684 and 2 of those HORRIBLE SOUNDING cabinets at a pawn shop for $300. It was pre-Klipsch.

I entered the world of Klipsch in June, 2003 (Heresys). I sold those Peavey cabinets later that year while on a trip to Atlanta to pick up my second pair of Cornwalls. I kept the powered head. It is a decent sounding unit, surprisingly, and VERY portable. I used to lug a Peavey KB-300 around for gigs. NEVER AGAIN!

BS, The Bose 901's have been permanently loaned/given to a dear friend of mine whose rather cheap speakers disintegrated recently. His family is rather pleased with them.

I have 20 rooms held in the "KLIPSCH TOUR" name. They will hold the rooms until Sept. 1st. So call and get your room.
