  1. Yeah, I shot the customer service dept. an email and they said the same. Fantastic!
  2. Erm, define cheap. . . compared to how much I bought them for years ago, they're going for strangely high prices on eBay. I'll have to check uBid for them though - do they routinely float through there?
  3. One of the brass binding posts broke in half during transit of one of my Quintets. I was wondering if anyone had one or two laying around they'd be willing to part with. (While my units have the 'rubber toes', they say 2.0 on the sticker on the bottom. I thought this meant they are version II's, but I'd like confirmation) Thanks much!
  4. Everything was plugged into a nice Belkin surpressor, cost me about 40 dollars. Everything was off at the time, but the surpressor was on. Back to the speakers though, what are my options at getting them repaired?
  5. I tried a few different outlets. No go. :[ Using a VU Meter the fuse reports very low resistance (i.e. that means it's working, yes?)
  6. Speakers were off (red LED on pod) but surge protector the sub was plugged into was on and plugged into the wall. Lightning hit the apartment complex and made a sound like a tazer in the walls. Now the LED on the pod won't light at all; plugging and unplugging the sub into an outlet doesn't make any 'initialization' noise (small thump, hum) I opened up the back of the sub to see what I could see; I pulled the fuse out but it looks pretty clean. Tomorrow I'll test it with a meter. The rest of the board looks clean (no scorch marks, etc.) but then again I can't see everything and to tell the truth I don't really know what I'm looking for. Options? If it's the fuse I know what to do, but what about taking the board to someone with some electrical know how? Or is it a lost cause except for seeking repair directly from Klipsch? Thanks for the help.
  7. I'm sorry, when I said 'unit' I meant the DD-5.1 itself. Yes, the remote has volume control, and all the other adjustment buttons on it.
  8. Perhaps I spoke to soon with my setup running fine. . . here's what's happening. I have my onboard SoundMAX plugged into my DD-5.1 via a coaxial cable, and a Playstation 2 plugged into the DD-5.1 via a TOSlink cable. The PS2 outputs sound fine, and I get no crackling or stuttering. The coax source though, my computer, will randomly, anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes begin to stutter - the sound will 'miss'. It happens to all audio passed through the coax (games, winamp, mpegs, etc.) The effect seems to get worse with time. Switching the DD-5.1 off and then on again clears up the problem for about another minute, then it returns. The DD-5.1 itself seems to function fine otherwise(again, the PS2 TOSlink connection has no problems), and doesn't get overly hot. The coax cable is a new Monster IDL100 cable, 1 meter long. I've refit the cable a few times. :[
  9. It comes with it in all instances, since the unit itself has no face controls except for a power button.
  10. Hrm. . . optical in (Playstation 2) seems fine, but coaxial from my computer 'stutters' after a few minutes, getting worse if there's a loud sound being play through music or a movie. : Edit: I turned off my subwoofer channel and now all seems to be well again. :]
  11. I game, but I do not use 3d sound API's because I feel they're poorly implemented (not to mention Creative's hegomony on the issue.) Great, I have it all hooked up after a brain fart. Can someone recommend me what the best bass management preset would be? I seem to recall wanting all the leds to be red, and for my 4.1's I've deactivated the center channel.
  12. . . . right? Or not? I searched the forum but no one else got an answer either. Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see a way to do it. If there is no way, I'd be happy to just know. :\
  13. 4.1's use very standard 3.5mm stereo plugs at the satellite end. I don't mind, though when I move or bump a satellite, or especially when I touch the plug boot, man do my speakers get cranky - just a lot of static, it settles down after about 10 seconds, or never at all, to which I have to fool with the plug until it 'settles'. I don't know if this has been covered a million times or not, I didn't know what syntax to search for using the archive. I just wanted to be more at ease to know that this is normal behavior. . . . . . and if it is, to request a design change to more normal positive/negative wires with bare ends and mini-clamps, 'traditional speaker wire style' as it were. Thanks! Edit: Just saw a 'mod' to create wire that apparently lessens this problem - it looks kinda complicated. The Klipsch upgraded wire set looks like the same thing - I guess that's the way to go if I want a buy it solution?
  14. "Premium" cable has often been outed as a big fallacy that exists merely to help line the pockets of enthusiast level audio makers. However, this runs directly contrary to guy's attachment to 'more expensive is better'. Then again, everyone's ears are different, so technically we'll never know the truth because there's no baseline.
