The filaments of all four tubes on both amps lighted up almost immediately after I flipped the power switch. Both 6SN7 driver tubes on the troubled amp were slightly dim compare to the good amp. But once the troubled amp outputted audio, the driver tubes remained slightly dim. I swapped the driver tubes from the good amp to the troubled amp but the problem remained. Both the rectifier (CV378) and the 2A3 tubes remained strong.

The first thing I would do is swap tubes (One at a time) from the left channel to the right channel and see if the problem follows. It may just be a weak tube. Anyway this is always my first step in diagnosing a problem with a tube amp. Thankfully, I rarely have to go beyond this first step.
This is the very first thing that I tried. Nothing is wrong with the right channel. The left channel exhibited the same behavior.

Does this do this every time you start it up?
Yes. It now takes from 3 to 5 minutes.
After it begins, does it sound normal?
Yes.
Does it do anything when you shut it down? Any noise?
No. No noise.

I don't check into the forum as often now since I am extremely busy but this came as a shock to me. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Boxx and your family will be in my prayers.

my left Moondog took a minute longer to output audio. My take is that one of the cap needed to be replaced but I don't know which one. Does anyone know if this is the correct diagnosis and which cap do I need to replace? Thanks.

I didn't want to unmount the cartridge from my Axis so I will wait for the sonata. I should have it within the next couple days.

Thanks, Josh. I will order the Grado Sonata.

No pressure! I have owned a few turntables but I hardly think that qualifies me as any sort of TT guru! Not to sound defensive, but there may have been a tad bit of sarcasm in that comment - which is fine with me!
I am big fan of VPIs as well. My first TT when I got back into this hobby was a VPI HW JR MK 111. A very fine TT that retailed for just under the cost of the Scout. I was actually eyeing the VPI classic before I bought my current table. Like I said before I dont have any experience with the Akito arm, nor do I have any experience with the VPI arms. I started with a rega tonearm and have stayed in the rega family since.
My point, not well articulated at all, is that both the Scout and the Linn are fine belt drive turntables. One is suspended and one is not. Different flavors no doubt. Both are loved by their followers - and for good reason. My problem with Linn is the never-ending upgrade path - a great many of which are just downright silly! My feelings for the silliness of the upgrades are amplified by the ferocity of the Linn apologists.
Now back to the question at hand. I am familiar with the AES PH 1. If I recall they made a couple of versions. One had adjustable cartridge loading via a knob on the front. Does yours have that feature? I am also assuming that you are not going to be using any sort of step up device/transformers. And then finally what is the budget?
Josh
My AES PH 1 does not have the adjustable cartridge loading. I like the PH 1 and I don't want to get another Phono stage. I will not be using a SUT so I prefer to keep it to MM only. I am willing to spend up to $500 for the cartridge. Thanks.

Thanks josh. Can you recommend a cartridge?

You could have got a new vpi scout for that.
Are you saying for the same price, I can have a new VPI Scout that can play right out of the box and that it is better than the LP12?

Well, I have had the Linn Axis for about 10 years and I am pretty happy with it. A few days ago I saw a brand new (still wrap in the boxes) Linn LP12 with Cirkus bearing, Lingo power supply and Akito II tonearm for $1,800 at a garage sale. I thought that was a great deal and I couldn't pass up on it so I bought it. Since I don't have a cartridge for it, I am asking for recommendation on the cartridge. This is my first venture into the LP12 world. I've heard that the difference between the Axis and LP12 is day and night.

Run. Run far away.
LOL! Too late now.

I have the following questions:
1) Pre-Cirkus or Cirkus bearing? I have read that some prefer pre-cirkus.
2) What type of cartridge is best suited for the LP12: MC or MM?
3) If MC what would the least expensive but good tube MC Phono stage be?
All inputs are appreciated.

Thanks Bill
For the welcome and the advice.
Going price?
1500 for 1995 Belle in black, good?
Single or pair? If pair, that is cheap in good condition.

A friend of mine won this auction. I am wondering if this is too good to be true.

Wait 'till you try the Klipschorns!
Several years ago, I picked up a pair of RF-7's thinking I will never part with. Well, in short, goodbye my ol' friends. Hello! La Scala!!!
After getting them settled in (had to paint the wall behind cause they clashed with the yellow). Replaced a diaphragm on one HF horn (I'll do the other next week). It was time for a test drive!
Three words, OMG!!! -the delicacy of sound from these is amazing. The warmth is attractive and the look, well, look at them! Gorgeous!
I was a little worried they would be too much. Those worries went quickly out the door with the twist of the throttle. Oh dear Lord, I had no idea what I have been missing. Now to smooth over the neighbors. I think some fresh baked cookies are in order

Something lacking from most of the posting here is the idea of incremental improvement. No one much described how they built their sound system, but if they can't hear differences in wire it's not likely they hear difference in amps or CDPs or probably anything but the speaker. And when you don't believe there are such differences, you'd have no reason to make incremental change. Especially when you try them ONE AT A TIME. You'd be forever saying to yourself, "no difference."
I can not hear any difference between a pair of $40 Radio Shack speaker cables and a pair of $500 Monster speaker cables. But I can hear the difference between my Moondogs and a pair of cheap Chinese-made tube amps; The difference is sometime like night and day. Your theory is flawed.

Onkyo receivers on woot for $199 and $299
http://www.woot.com/offers/onkyo-5-2-or-7-2-network-a-v-receiver
Johnny is letting us know a good deal on an Onkyo receiver.
Yeah, but it's still an Onkyo receiver...............
Shakey doesn't seem to think so. Nothing wrong with that. He is entitled to his opinion. I find nothing condescending about this statement.
Lighten up guys! Lets move on. Nothing else to discuss.

I did not find any of Shakey's comments offensive. Don't take things to heart and you'll live longer!

I am 100% with Shakeydeal. I have a dedicated 2-channel system as I do not believe in a combined system. Although, once, I did have what I considered the best home theatre system for the money - 5.1 all McIntosh gears!

Paul Walker is not a celebrity type of person. He is as down to earth as you and I can be. If you don't know him, you would never know that he did a tremendous amount of charity. He is a humble and caring person who happens to be an actor. And he has my respect.

Moondog 2A3 is Lagging
in 2-Channel Home Audio

The dim glow stay put on the troubled amp when I swapped the preamp tubes.
Yes. But I have not have time to open the amp to do voltage measurements. One thing I noticed is that if I turned off the system at night time after retiring and turned it back on during the early evening everyday, there would be no delay in the audio output. If I turned on the amp every other day, then it took from 1 to 3 minutes to output audio. And if I turned on the system every two to three days, then it took 3 to 5 minutes to output audio.
