  1. So I am trying to fnd a college with a good acoustical/audio/something like that engineering program. Anyone have any suggestions? It would be interesting to know where all of Klipsch's engineers are graduating from. Thanks for the help.
  2. Alright its fixed. So i moved the dvd player last night let everything cool down and turned it on again today. Overloaded right away at about -35db. I still though this was all raelly wierd cause i could turn up my mains all the way in stereo mode. So I decide I was going to try what someone suggested above, which was to unplug all the speakers and plug them in one by one untill the reciever begins to overload again. So I got the mains and the centers plugged in and everything was working fine. I could crank them up as much as i wanted without a problem. Than i plugged in the R sorround which is an SB2 turn it on and it overloads right away around 33 or so db. The WTF meter went up very quickly. So in my attempt to see what the hell ws wrong i looked behind the speaker to look at the terminals and low and behold the wires are completely lose and might as well have been soldered right together. So i cranked them down again and turned everything on cranked it up and what do you know? It didnt overlaod. Who would have thought. lol. At least i got out of that without breaking anything. Thanks for the help guys.
  3. So I moved the DVD player and checked all the wiring. I think i am going to play some music on it for a bit to warm it up and than see how loud itll go before it overloads. Its not actually hurting it whne it is overloading right? The whole point is that it is turning itself off before it overloads. I hope im correct on this.
  4. I have had a pioneer VSX-811S reciever hooked up to a pair of rf-5s amd RC-#II center and a pair of SB-2s for sorrounds. Last year i only had the SB2s hooed up to it and it never overloaded (probably because it was just in stereo mode). Now that I have a larger set up it seems to be overlaoding way to much. Its not even turned up that load. It is overloading at what i would consider a very reasonable level for watching movies. (Like when the volume is at like -35db) My questionis why is it doing this. I really dont think i am pushing it that hard. Could it be overheating? It is on almost all day. I am in college and between my three roomates and I someone is always using the system for xbox or movies or whatever. I have my dvd player set on top of it and i think i am going to move it. Any suggestions as to how I could fix this. I don't really want to buy something at this point. I probably could if i had to. And if i had to buy something when a stereo amplifier for the rf5s help fix it. Or is a whole new reciever pretty much the only way to go. Thanks for the help.
  5. My main concern is audio really. My little 27in TV isnt exactly mind blowing.
  6. So right now I am watching DVDs using my xbox and I want something a bit nicer. So I am looking at all these rediculous dvd players and i cant figure out the difference between a progressive scan player that costs a $100 or $500 or $2000. Obviously something is changing. I am looking at the Denon 2300 DVD player right now which I think i could get for about 500, but i dont know if it is worth it. Is it really going to be that much better than a $100 one from best buy? Thanks for the help.
  7. So its done. What i did was cut out holes in cardboard to go around the cones. So i did two layers of that to build it up a third of an inch or so. Than I put cardboard around the ends. Than i wrapped this blue foam around the cardboard in the ends, so it was about half in inch thick. Everything between the two ends was than bubble wrapped. Tn i put a even bigger piece of cardboard over the ends that covered the foam. Than i wrapped a piece of cardboard around the entire speaker. And finally i put in in a box (really really tight fit). The boxes i used were these broom boxes i stol of the floor of lowes hardware, they worked quit nice i think. I am still worried about the cones. I would hate to have them dented or anything like that when they get to NY. Another thing i am a little word about is the rubber around the outide of the cones. It sticks out past the wood a bit and I didnt want it being pushed on to much. So one question would be have bad is it for the box to be pushing on the rubber edge on the cone (sorry for using such technical terms. Im no expert to say the least). But we shall see how they are in a week when they show up. Cross your fingers.
  8. So im hearing foam and bubblewrap and cardboard is the way to go. Would shipping them in a wood frame be overkill?
  9. 750 + shipping for the pair and you have yourself a deal.
  10. So I am home for the summer from college and I got a rediculous deal on a pair of RF-5s ($500!!!). But my issue now is I am home in Seattle but i go to school in New York. And although they were a great deal they didnt come with there original boxes, so now I am stuck trying to move them from here to new york with no boxes. I wentdown to the UPS store and they said they could package them and ship them and do everything for $350 and thats a no go. So I am left to package them myself. So question is what is a good safe way to package them and what do you recommend courier wise. I could freight them ups them, whatever, but the cheaper the better and time isnt an issue. Also if anyone has a set of boxes for rf-5s lieing around I would be very interested in them (: Thanks for the help!
  11. I havent notice that the 811s sounds to bad with my current SB2s. Maybe its because i just havent heard alot of different setups. I have noticed that my sub sounds a little weak alot of the time. I have the sub running through the sub out and it sounds pretty damn good with music, it just doesnt have alot of rumble factor. But i just thught that was because the rw10 jsut wasnt that loud. But anywho, i think beesley was recommending that i get a seperate amp and use the preouts on the 811s. Is this what I need? And if so, what would be a good match for the RB75s.
  12. Having the RB-75s as my front mains and moving the SB-2s to the back was the overall plan. Later in the year i was planning on throwing a center in there for 5.1. So it sounds like my reciever will work for now. Maybe later ill buy a 2 channel amp for them. And a year or so down the line I am figuring i can get a pair of RF-7s and use them as the mains, move the RB-75s to the rears and have the SB-2s for sorrounds.
  13. I believe that the reciever outputs 100 watts x 2 for stereo and a full 100 watts x 6 in sorround. And its 120 watts RMS. Im never good with all these things though, and I'm not sure what the difference between RMS watts and everything else. I don't know, but thats what it says on the spec sheet.
  14. I know about a thousand questions like this one are posted everyday, but oh well. So right now my system is a pair of SB-2s, a RW-10, and a pioneer VSX-811S receiver. I am a poor college student so I can't afford all the big toys that everyone here has, but I am working on it. (speakers have to compete for my money with ski gear) But I've got a chunk of change dedicated to buying some new speakers. I have about 800 or so dollars and I am thinking that the best thing to do for now would be purchasing a pair of RB-75s. I figure they can stay in my system forever as rears if I ever upgrade and for the mean time they well give me a good boost in sound quality. I guess I have a few questions regarding this idea. First off, anybody got a better idea? I always like suggestions. Secondly, can my receiver adequately power the RB-75s? And finally, how well will the RB-75s pair with my SB-2s if I move them back to rears. Thanks for all your help.
  15. Alright, I just got a new RW-10 sub. It is paired with a pair of SB2s and a Pioneer VSX-811S reciever. The room everything in is a small dorm room that is fairly crowded. It is hooked up to the preout of my reciefer and is going into the LFE intput on the sub. So what do i do to make this thing sound good. Thanks for the help! Graham
