  1. He was a man that loved subwoofers and his passion was bass. He was known for making the Beast and helped with TC Sounds Beast II that Michael Hurd replicated. His "beast" was also the inspiration to make my mini beast version II which is just 1/2 the TC Sounds Beast which used two TC Sounds LMS 5400 and 4 Passive Radiators.

  2. My, my, my what a mess. Y'know mebbe I am just a sucker waiting to be had by various psychological approaches to gaining my product loyalties. But, then again, mebbe not. Then again, mebbe we all are. As for myself. Nope, not tech savvy. Don't need to be. In ways I can't be. I'm too blind to see texting (for example). I aim to be a better techy as I determine it may benefit me. So yeah Bing is certainly capable enough for me and it appeals more to me. And yeah, Google's desire to neuter religion(s) from their 'doodles' I find culturally disrespectful. Guess what? Chinese food appeals to Chinese. Cantonese Chinese food appeals more to Chinese from Canton. America also has its regions and subcultures whose traditions are under assault by egalitarianism. Just try to not throw the baby out with the bath water.

That's a silly argument. Most Chinese food that Americans think is Chinese food is Americanized Chinese food. And yep Google is trying to neuter religion by not posting easter bunnies and eggs.

  3. So......Klipsch wants to let their speaker site become a platform for religion bashing and a gay marriage movement. I see now why the thread lock was mentioned, I had no idea this site had become a movement.........

Welcome to America the land of the supposed free. And where people paid with the price of their lives so you and I can speak freely and not face persecution from the government.

As for religious bashing, yep I was bashing pagans. Prove me wrong with what the easter bunny and egg represent. Its a pagan tradition not a Christian one. That was matter of fact knowledge, no christian bashing involved.

As for the gay marriage movement, I just want to make sure that he was principaled in his decision to boycott google. If he truly wants to be a man of his word he should make sure that he does not inadvertantly own any google shares. Just as the CEO of Starbucks had to remind the shareholder that he has a right to sell his stocks.

    Remember be principled

  5. I never paid much attention to Google doodles. But I checked and Oldtimer is quite correct. Google has not acknowledged Easter with a doodle since 2000. Yet on those many Easter dates Google did not offer up any doodles at all. If you check you'll find that Google was pretty holiday traditional with its doodles in the year 2000 and since then has trended towards more generic religious holiday doodle presentations in general. And they did no doodles at all on those Easters. I'd wager that somebody with that generic mindset simply misgauged how Cesar would be accepted in lieu of something Easter-like when both days coincided (the 31st is Chavezs' birthday and is officially Cesar Chavez Day). Google does not offer a daily doodle. They're sort of special. Doodles showed up whimsically and are fairly creatively entertaining. I knew Sunday was Easter and 5 A.M. I fire up the computer there was a Google doodle..... and it was not at all Easter themed. For the 1st time ever I clicked on the doodle and got the Google explanation that they opted out of any Easter theme intentionally. It was not that I disrespected Cesar Chavez it was that I felt Google disrespected every kids Easter Egg hunt. I suppose if they did nothing at all I'd still use them. But to be quite honest Bing is better. And to be even more honest, if Google wants to serve up public art related to public occasions downplaying and ignoring Christian holidays as doodle worthy is pretty poor public relations. If you're the director of marketing you do not alienate any major demographic for ANY reason. Google walked a fine line until Sunday and then it fell off the rope for the wrong reasons.

First the easter bunny and eggs are a pagan tradition and if anything is disrespectful to the christian easter. Any Christian should not really allow for egg hunts and easter bunnies.

Second Google has great tools that 95% of users never use because they don't understand them

Third if you really are boycotting Google then make sure to call and make sure your 401 k or mutual fund does not own any shares of google as per CEO of Starbucks defending their decision to defend gay marriage.

During the company’s annual meeting in Seattle last week, shareholder

Tom Strobhar spoke up, suggesting that the boycott was affecting the

company’s stock value: “In the first full quarter after this boycott was

announced, our sales and our earnings — shall we say politely — were a

    little disappointing,” he said.

Schultz shot back that Starbucks’ endorsement of marriage equality wasn’t bad for business:

“If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher

return than the 38% you got last year, it’s a free country. You can sell

your shares of Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you

very much,” Schultz said, to applause from the audience.

  6. OOOOH I see now. That does look like Kate Upton at the podium.

Relax, Merkin, not a problem. Beauty and pride are in the eye of the beholder...in this case me.

Certainly the compressed video doesn't do the babe in green justice, but, of course, I have access to a much better view.

  7. We are going to HTML5

Very interesting........The new Internet Explorer 10.0 gets a lower rating than the Firefox 19.0. chris

Is there a good comparison between browsers somewhere? I refuse to "upgrade" to MS's latest. Looks like the choices are Chrome or Firefox.

I think that I will have to use Firefox as I am hoping to convert to all Linux Mint based computers when MS finally pulls the plug on XP.

Firefox is you like forum based websites and such. Chrome for security. Both are fine for "ahem" privacy settings. IE not even once.

Remember Firefox is actually community based and actually non profit.

  8. Dave, starving to death in a grocery store is a pretty good metaphor for NASA PR.

Jay, could you say more about flash being nearly dead?

Apple has always disliked flash after a fight with steve jobs I believe. Flash is not capable on ipods, ipads, and iphones. To watch youtube which is flash based you need download an app. You click on the link and it opens up the youtube app. Android is also starting to no longer associating with flash. I remember Android is supposed to drop flash in the next update. Or at least not support it.

Flash is fine on most real computers but if you have watched of late, operating systems are basically dead outside of osx and android. Windows 8 is a failure.

  9. any brand reccomendations for hard drives, from my reading im gathering its just luck of the draw and price is not a reflection of quality

    Joe

I assume you want an external hard drive? Would you rather a laptop external hard drive or a traditional 3.5 inch hard drive. The laptop hard drive can be powered only by the usb cord (one cord for power and data transfer) while the 3.5 inch needs to be plugged into the computer and wall. The 3.5 will be faster though as its 7200 rpm versus 5400 unless they put a hybrid in there. You need to read the specs.

Also how about trying two different companies? I have had luck with western digital and seagate for the most part. I don't non hard drive companies selling external hard drives.

  10. Well glad you took some of the advice.

I think if you could you should buy two terabyte or more hard drives. Keep them in separate places. Also given that cds are 800 megs a piece or less you are down to 293 - ~120 gigs you will be down to ~173 gigs or from your 583 gig (true space) to ~29% space left. Thats fine and dandy but add a computer game or two and your computer will slow down a lot. With photos, I suggest that you upload them to a cloud system such as google + or even facebook (just set the album privacy setting to only allow you to see them) They may not be the best format or full size but at least you can still have them in case your computer/camera/etc goes bad. You can even upload them easily to sites such as flicker tumblr or I prefer imgur. SD Cards get lost, formatted, or fail.

  11. not looking for accolades, i could care less what anyone thinks of me, and im as far from thin skinned as people get. Where i work thin skin gets you crushed on a daily basis. my initial post was exactly what i stated and had your initial response contained some of the info you just posted i would have given it much more weight in my considerations. I tend to blow off the 1 liners as i dont generally have time for crap. (in my experience about 99% of the 1 liners are looking for a nibble to start a back and forth flame)

Now that you have clarified some of what your initial intent was would you care to elaborate on which hard drives have a reputation of reliability. and my cpu im downloading to is a sony vaio laptop. And how on earth would i email myself a file containing nearly 10000 songs ?

You can't send yourself 10000 songs. First wav files are much bigger than compressed files and most emails limit to 10 megs a song. Second I would suggest cloud storage but most cloud storage for storage reasons do not allow for wav files or will automatically compress wav files to mp3 or thus negating all the work you just did. (What cloud service does is it matches similar files other customers put up and marked it as yours so there is really one file that everyone streams or redownloads instead of a 1000 of the same file on the same server taking up 1000 slots that could be marked down to one. This is somewhat similar to what mp3 does as well.

A sony vaio is fine. Well I never brought one and they are not great or bad (usually expensive) but I have no idea what hard drive they contain unless you look at the innards. Is it a 7200 rpm or 5400 rpm? Do you have the specs around? And as I said Laptop hard drives do not have the same reliability as desktop models due to shock, vibration, coffee spills etc that all come with laptops and their inherent risks.

Another issue you might want to consider is are you always going to update? Most people say yeah I am going to backup my computer monthly. Yeah that's nice in theory but in reality people forget and its a year already. The computer fails and you say well I have a backup. Guess what, the file you really need was saved 5 days ago and you lost now 1 year worth of photos and music and video you will never be able to recover.

You say oh well I will keep the backup always on my computer now its attached to the laptop and running. It is wearing down with the same time as your laptop hd. Also remember that heat is the biggest issue with hard drives. People cram them in airless spaces or whoops did the dog just run into the cable and pull the laptop and your backup with it to meet its doom by crashing into the floor? Uh oh! Or if a power surge hits both systems are now down.

And of late with freak storms, okay my backup is in the basement. Did the basement just uh oh flood? Okay did you put it in an watertight case like a Pelican or waterproof safe, now the issue of did I remember to update it this month comes around.

Another thing to take issue, many hard drive companies are based in Thailand and in 2010/2011 they had massive flooding and hard drive prices went up while reliability went down. Seagate used to be a good company with the best waranty but remember they do not cover the cost of recovering the data. They will send you a refurbished drive as a replacement.

Honestly I say keep the cds. In fact do what you are doing rip them and put them in a caselogic case (they hold up to 500cds or so with the artwork cases can be brought) and then put them in a pelican case or an water tight case in case of flooding. Then you don't have to rebuild your music list incase a flooding or so happens.

I am honestly buying used cds from amazon and amazon prime gives me free shipping (I pay about 3-4 dollars a mint cds) and rip them to my computer even though I have other means of downloading them even in FLAC.

BTW how many cds do you actually have? Whats the approximate size of all of them now?
