After reading what-his-face's self-promoting "white-paper" on the pi corner horn modeled on the original Klipsch 1946 paper "A New Horn Loudspeaker of Small Proportions", I thought that it was too much...

No number of 6" drivers are going to beat a Khorn. So I wrote them off as viable contenders...

Not even in the same league, IMO.

What white paper are you reffering to? The Pi Speaker Alignment Theory? .. http://www.pispeakers.com/PiAlign.doc

I am not sure what you are talking about but no Pi speakers use anything smaller than an 8" driver.

  2. First and foremost , I respect and enjoy Klipsch speakers , after all even after I got rid of my Klipschs I still enjoy reading here.

Anyways I built some Studio Series 4 Pis from http://www.pispeakers.com , details are here, http://home.comcast.net/~bentvalve/pi.htm

Its been around a month now and I cannot believe what a major leap these were from my RF-3IIs, I have heard LaScalas , RF-7s and the KLF20s

and I feel as though my Pis outperform all of them. $750 and some time and I have a true lifetime set of speakers..there simply is not much else to be

desired in a speaker from here. These are unbelievably dynamic , powerful and detailed sounding...extremely delicate when needed and powerful

    and explosive when needed.

These are really quite easy to build , I highly recommend these to any Klispch owners who might be looking for other alternatives in horn speakers.

Pi is owned my Wayne Parham who has been building and designing speakers since the 70s....there are models for as low as $100 a pair for the parts

on up to $1000 and more.

Wayne shares the plans for free over the internet, just go the his forum and ask.

Well I hope I am not intruding here at Klipsch because that is not my goal, I just wanted to let Klispch owners know about these great speakers.

    Hey Guys....

Just went to the Good Guys in Northridge, CA and picked up the pair for $379 ($405 with tax). They didnt give me any kind of problems. The manager even looked at the price twice and said "Is this right?" and the salesmen helping me said "Yeah Boss, its a special price." If you guys try and complain, saying hey it printed as $379, you can probably get them.

I dont know, give it a try. It worked for me and I am happy as he*l. Just upgraded from a RF-25 to the 5's, but the thing that sucks is that I remember paying over $500 for the 25's....

Congrats, you got lucky...only thing is you should have purchased their entire inventory because you would have at least doubled your money! My store new about the error before they opened..the Mgr is anal.

  5. I picked up and Academy center for a good price and was just going to use it for a short while while I am between speakers then resell it but I may consider keeping it if I can find some mains to go with it.

Reading up on it at Klipsch.com I see it matches with the Chorus II, Cornwall II , Forte II and Quartet.

Does it match well with any others such as Heresys or?

I just sold my RF-3IIs and RC-3II mains and center, I switched out every component on my rack trying to get the RF-3IIs to work out for 2 channel music and it just did not pan out.

I was not planning on going with Klipsch speakers but if I can get a nice combination going with the Academy then maybe I will try Klipsch one more time.

  6. "harsh">>>>>>

Yes that was abit harsh but his statement was not very productive either...anyhow lets move on, shall we?

"how did you get that dent?">>>>>

DHL dropped the box smack dab on that corner of the box..and mind you this is a pretty reasonable box and custom dense foamlike stuff surrounded the Soundstage as well, the corner had to be pushed in roughly 3-4 inches to contact the Soundstage corner.

@ 35lbs I'd imagine it had to fall at least 5' , if it had just landed on the side it probably would have been fine but the corner of the box took the entire load.

The buttons on the unit would not work when I first hooked it up...the face had been pushed out of alignment ..I adjusted the face and everything else seems ok now but its no longer mint as it was.

What I have going for me is the sender put this on my DHL account and sent it overnight express even after I specifically asked her to send it ground....its going to cost nearly $200 in shipping. Anyways the good news is

that since it was shipped express and its a high dollar shipping tab DHL will most likely make it good.

At the very least I'll get a new face plate, a factory check-up from Aragon and my shipping cost waived...at

best I'll get every cent back that I paid for it , the shipping fee waived and get to keep the unit I have.

If I really wanted to work them I could get a new Stage One out of the deal..but since DHL has been co-operative so far I'll take the high road.

  7. Update:

The HCA-1500A did not work ..although it certainly did help and I am keeping it.

I also thought I had the issue somewhat handled with an old Sony ES CD player I had.

So to sum it up here is what I have tried so far:

~5 different sources including an esoteric external DAC

Various room treatments and speaker placments

Power conditioning and better quality cables

Turning down the treble on my receiver.

BTW I have a Yamaha RX-V3300 receiver not a Denon as some people above think...I used to have a Denon when I first got into HT and they just are not my cup of tea.

Anways there is only one thing left to to before I give up on the Klipschs...change out my beloved RX-V3300. I think most people would not consider getting rid of the Yamaha because its a real sweetie but I want to keep the Klipschs.

So I bought an Aragon Soundstage Pre-amp to replace the Yamaha, by all accounts this is about as good a match for the Klipschs as I will ever find.

I'll have it in a week or so and will post an update afterwards.l
