  1. True...but my house is fifty years old and those wires are pretty clear from any electiral wires..Besides seeing how my hours was wired already that probably is the least of my worries...When I bought the house they had a 100 ft extension cord snaked through the yard for the pool pump!! Now that is a fire-electrical hazard and the town co guy nver said a word! Go figure! Thanks for the input!
  2. HI I just finsihed my basement and I used the monster xp wire. I would just keep the speaker wires about a foot or two away for any electrical wiring. Be sure to put a couple extra wires for the front of the room and the back of the room for any future connections. The quick connect plates are real nice and give it a real nice custom install look. Be sure to get more than enough wire I ran out of wire two times, and I had to run out and get more. I cut three of my wires in the wrong place(were there was no visible indication to which was the postive wire, so pull enough through were you can see the monster writing on the wire. Good Luck!
  3. Thans for the input I think I will eventually get a rear center to the 6.1. But due to the overwhelming expensive of finsishing the basement I will wait on it. I was smart enough to already wire for it in the wall though for the rear center If you had 2 fronts 1 center in the front 1 center in the rear and 4 rear surronds, wouldnt that be 8.1 or are the 2nd second of rears actaully the same signal as the rears as for 5.1? Thanks
  4. Hi I will look on the disc to see if it says what level it is using. I am sure it is on of the two. If I cant find it I probably will go and get on of the other discs mentioned, because I know it will bother me not knowing, I will want the setting right on the money. Which discs is better to get?
  5. I am more than happy with my 5.1 setup, but I cant say I have heard anything more than that(thank god). I am alreadly prewired for 6.1(that is adding a rear center right?...) for the future. I am curious how many people have already jumped in to the other standards. I dont think that many dvds take advantage of the other formats yet?... I probably in the not too distant future add a rear center, but to also add two more rear channels is a lot of speakers for one room, how soon before 9.1??? Thanks
  6. HI I dont have either of those discs mentioned I have a audio video set up disc, that has the video calibration and sound calibration test. The brand is called discwasher digital. I bought it at a local hifi store, it was about $30 bucks. I imagine that it is the same as the others.. isnt it better to calibrate the speakers with the pink noise setup that my denon has in the setup mode??? What is the advantage to using the disc
  7. Hi I just just my basement for the Ht. I put a 20amp breaker in which just runs my 4 outlets on the ht area. The lighting is on a seperate breaker. Before my ht was on a 15 amp that also feed some other areas in the house and I never had a problem. I think 60 amps would be overkill. Most homes are only 150 service. Some newer and larger homes are 200. My 2 cents
  8. Hi I am getting ready to set up my Ht in the newly finished basement. 1. I plan on using setting up the mains as large with the +main option 2. Should I set the reminder of the speakers up as small or large? 3. I plan on mounting the rears on the side walls about ear level standing, when sitting will probably be about two feet above ear level when sitting..is this good? 4. Last I plan on keeping on port blocked on the svs..any tweaks with the sub will be helpful... I plan on setting up with the test tones at 75db with the sub maybe around 85db....I hear alot about starting the test tones at refernece level what do they mean by that? Thanks
  9. No is wasnt on sale but last years model. So I guess they sere getting rid of them in my area.. Nj Thanks

    Bi-wiring..

Just picked up my last piece for my reference series the rf-3 II. Sixth ave electronics has a few pairs left for 495.00 I thought it was a great price. I was reading some old posts about biwiring. Not sure if it will beneficial for me but worth the try. But my problem is that I mounted speaker jacks on my walls with the speaker wires behind the wall. So in the wall there is only one wire per speaker(from the corresponig jack to the main jacks..where my receiver will plug into. Can I still biwire? Not a big deal anyway..it seems as if most people did not see much of a improvement anyway Thanks
  12. There is a tilt correction feature. But that isnt the problem. test or lines in the middle of the screen are straight just towards the left side Thanks for the Reply's
  13. Hi Yeah if it was there you would see it especailly if you watch any widescreen. I notice that when they put the tv in my truck it was flipped upside down a couple times. Hmmmm.... I can see it pretty clearly. I bought it a local dealer and they wont take it back until a service tech comes out first. I dont want it fixed..I want it right..once a lemon always a lemon. I guess I should have bought it at a larger retailer like best buy that takes anything back. As you know it isnt the lightest tv to move around. Great picture otherwise. I will be getting the extended warrranty before my year is up just in case Thanks
  14. Hi I know that this isnt the right place to ask. But I just upgraged my tv from a 32HF72 HD to a 36HF73. Mostly the same exact tv exact for 4in bigger and one year newer in model. The problem is it seems as if towards the top left side of the tv it pulls up for example if it widescreen it pulls the left top line up and it curves up enough it be very noticable. The bottom curve too but not as much. The wife noticed right away and she usually doesnt catch stuff like that. There are no large magnets around or anything like that. Thanks By the way I found a pair of rf-3II at 6ave electronics cheaper than at the online dealer. 529 w/ tax
  15. If you can choose your choice of vid connection go with colorstream(component) usually labeled pb, pr, py or something like that. My opinion it looks much better than s-vid..colors look more vid. Good luck
  16. Hi I am just about finished w/ my home theatre construction in my basement. I am currently using a monster power bar as my surge protector. I have a 20 amp circuit with just three outlets on it for that room. Would I be better off connecting my monster powerbar to the smart ups or maybe connecting everything to the smartups and not using the powerbar at all. The smart ups is one of the higher end models and retails for around 400.00 bucks. So it is a pretty good one Let me thanks!
  17. Thanks again for your response...As for switching the room around and having the couch in front of the beam I thought about before I started. But that made the ht much wider but the shrunk the viewing distance by 4 to 5 feet and I want to get some distance from the tv(I would be the same distance as it is now upstairs and that's to close. Plus I alrady have all my speaker wire wired behind the walls with jacks in place. I was thinking about mounting the speakers on the side walls about 4 1/2 feet up almost in the corner, and for the left side with no wall, taking a nice piece of oak or something stained in a nice black finish and attached that to the beam and attache the rear to it(hopefully I can get the lenght right in the first shot). So both rears will be pointing towards the listener. I was a put confused about your choise of mounting them on the rear wall and pointing them down? Thanks
  18. Hi One of my speaker wire runs behind my wall I figured about a foot too short. I am using monster xp speaker wire. Is there any lose of power or quality when you splice a wire?? Thanks
  19. HI Thanks for the response..As of now the couch is the only listening position. I planned on mounting the rears on the wall so I think toeing them in isnt possible. The couch will be almost against the wall since the room really isnt huge. So that would make the rear almost above you ...facing the main..do you think I would be better off mounting them on the side wall. on the right side of the room and some how hanging the left rear from my beam Since there is no wall there Thanks
  20. Sorry here is the second pic of the basement
  21. Hi I have been busy getting my rec HT room in the basement under way. The total size of the room is 23 x 14 but only half of it is decidated to HT..The column in the middle is the seperation point. I havent decided where the sub is going yet I figured that will have to be determined last. But I am getting ready to sheetrock the backside of my one wall were the heater is(on other side of the wall) and I need to decide where my rears are going to go So I can poke the wire through. My dilema is the couch is going to be right up against the heater. Should I place the rears mounted directly above the couch. Probably the best place would be on the wall were the window is but there is no left wall to mount the speaker on. And I really wanted to get away from the speaker stand aspect as I have had in the past. Please give some input on my best choices and the height it should be off the floor. Thanks
  22. Thanks for the responses. Regards I hope to grab a little input from everyone and maybe I will come across a better idea or possibly a new one. I wanted to enclosure the stairway area and put a door there that opened up into the ht room. But the wife insisted on leaving it the other way as it flowed better. Her point was the other half of the basement is a work laudnry area and she didnt wanted it seem as if you were going through the basement work area to get to another room Follow? Thanks
  23. HI I am finsihing off half of my basement. The other half is laudry, workshop area. As you go downstairs there will be a heavy type masonite door(to seperate the other side). The left side of the stairs will be open halfway(follow the contour of the stairs) down the stairs as you go down. The size of the room is about 30x16. But the HT area will really only be using about half of it. Now my question is I will have a drop ceiling do I want to insualte the ceiling(wood floors in the whole house)? I will also have recessed lights. Where is the the best place for them above tv, by viewing area, or in the middle pointing down or pointing towards the tv or viewing area? I thought about putting speaker jacks in the wall put I decided against it..I think! Mostly I am interested in sounproofing info. I read here someone used 90lb roofing material under the drywall...is that a good idea in a basement..I dont think that moisture can breathe through that. Thanks
