  1. Okay, here's the deal, I have an RC-7 center for sale: (+) drivers and functionality flawless (+) non-smoking home (+) purchased from dealer less than 1 year ago (+) front and rear of enclosure without damage (-) minor to noticable cosmetic damage on top and sides of the enclosure (-) bad cosmetic damage on the bottom side of the enclosure (-) bottom right peg on grille missing I have taken pictures of the actual unit which are available at the web address below. I tried to accentuate the cosmetic damage so that flaws are as visible as they possibly can be. In actuality, the damage isn't as easy to see. If you're going to put this center inside something (entertainment center perhaps) the damage won't be visible. I am asking $500 and will include FREE SHIPPING. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at tunemanjjw@hotmail.com If you pickup local (Durham, NC) I would be willing to save you shipping.   2. I recently bought a pair of RB-75's from JDILKS on this forum. I have to give this guy a flying-colors endorsement: He is a true gentlemen and a pleasure to work with. Not only did he provide me with very prompt email responses and updates, but due to unexpected circumstances, the day that he intended to ship the speakers got pushed back one day. Without a word, he offered to include a nice set of wall mounts for the 75's(I looked them up online, they were $80) to make up for him shipping a day late. Not only that, but he shipped the very NEXT day with 2-day shipping service to make up for the time. He's not even a business, yet he provided the best customer service I'VE ever received. I'm beyond pleased. BUT, onto the review I didn't know what to expect, b/c my Klipsch Ref. dealer doesn't stock rb75's. But for the price he was selling them for (> $200 less than ONLINE) and the reviews I'd read, it was a reasonable risk. I replaced a set of RS-7's on the rear w/the RB-75s. Before putting them in the rear, I put them up front to compare with the RF-7's. The RB75 vocals were very comparable and what most impressed me was they had that signature 7 sound..you know the one -- where the entire WALL is lit up with a vocal. Impressive! Needless to say, I was very pleased right out of the box. The vocal CRUSHED all the other reference bookshelves so easily. I think of them like BMW 3series vs M5. The difference IS NOT subtle. I mounted the RB75s on the rear, and it's the first time my 7 system has seamed together so well. I now have that sweet 7 sound coming at me from all directions -- or more accurately, it wasn't like I could hear them from all directions, but rather that I was immersed in a sea of 7-sound. Previously, the RS-7 rears were reasonably airy and really not bad, but the RS-7 really didn't carry the signature 7 sound that the RC/RF7s had that makes us love the 7 series -- Probably b/c of the different axis mid/tweeter and the 1" in rs7 vs. the 1.75" tweeter in the 75's. Additionally and most notably, the RS-7's seemed to provide rear fill only, whereas the 75's not only provide a more complete sounding rear, but increased the size of the image of my frontstage. Wow. Speculations and specifications aside, the RB-75 is an amazing bookshelf loudspeaker. It truly sings in 2 channel, and, in my opinion, truly COMPLETES a 7 series home theater. For the price JDILKS is selling them for, I highly recommend picking up a pair. Sell your RS-7s. Last I checked he had a pair or two left (he had...5 pairs?). I highly recommend grabbing up a pair while you can! It's the cheapest you'll ever find them. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=54904&forumID=69&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={FB872E92-1406-430F-9E6C-BFDB79948683}
  3. Man, RF-5 gets no respect on this forum. I just want to say it's no where close to the rf-3 -- which is what everyone seems to think. They sound near the same in the demo room, but when I got mine home and set up (I had both), they were easily the price difference better than the RF-3, no contest. I can't say much for the forte's b/c I'm a new age klipsch'er (would love to hear some oldschool klipsch(Chapel Hill, NC, anyone?), but I would set a pair of 5's up in your room, and see what you thought. If you didn't like them, return them. I own 7's now, but still consider outsanding klipsch sound to start at the rf-5's. I would not hesitate to own another pair. Also, to confirm, both the rf-5 and rf-7 are shielded, very well in fact.
  4. I think the floating issue of dual subs cancelling each other out isa little overemphasized. You can have far less nodes in a room using phasing between two subs. I've found that one usually doesn't go wrong doing dual front firing subs in the front (one next to each front)...get that easy parallel phasing. i think you can get better coverage and response overall with two subs with ease.
  5. RC-7 does everything. Bar bass extension, it's the best sounding speaker on the reference line, period. I don't think anyone has anything bad to say about it; they certainly shouldn't anyways. Also, the number of subwoofers you go with is highly dependent on how loud you turn your system up. With just the RF-7's full throttle, neither a single rsw-12 or rsw-15 will keep up. The fact of the matter is that the rf-7 gets unncecessarily loud, so don't feel you automatically have to have two subwoofers since most people don't crank them (rf-7's) up to 126 db, although if you had dual of either of the rsw-12 or rsw-15, you would be good to go regardless of how loud you turn your system up. /2cents
  6. Don't waste your time with RSW-10's with rf-7. It takes two of them to give you the potential of one RSW-12, which still can't keep up witht he 7's at the top of it's output potential.
  7. Attached here is the channel creation/level setting jpg
  8. On the note of amazing bass from rf-7, I recently stumbled upon perfection, sub-perfection: I run all of my music through a computer with a Dolby digital encoder built into it -(Nvidia soundstorm APU). It allows you to create different channels and control their levels and eq'ing and then output the result via a dolby digital stream to your receiver for decoding. I have my rears set to small and my RF-7's and RC-7 set to large on a B&K AVR-202. By a small amout of boost on the soundstorm eq, and creating a LFE with a small gain on it, upon decoding with SUBWOOFER set to NONE in the receiver, it reroutes all of the LFE to the fronts which truly opens up the potential of the RF-7's like no other. It's a lot like how the RSW subs are active EQ'd for extended low performance. I was seriously shopping a SVS dual subwoofer until I got this all set up. The best part is, it provides a VERY EVEN FULL-ROOM response and sounds very natural...I spent a lot of time working this out, and it never really worked until I got the B&K which does a great job blending it all apparently. Previously it'd always wound up making some notes sounding muddy or exaggerated and...basically just didn't sound right on all music as I preferred. My room is small (10.5' x 13.5' with 8.5' ceilings). All this to say, I get a flat and full bass response to below 30Hz. I will have to pull my test disc back out to verify frequencies (when people are awake again), but I can tell you while SPL metering music at listening position I registered an easy constant 120db with a peak of 125db at a frequency less than or equal to 30Hz (C-weighting on digital meter). A few of my klipsch reference 7-series junky buddies have heard it and been blown away. I assume most of you on the forum are not doing a home theater PC or PC to RF-7 set up of any kind, but if there're any other tech-junkies out there w/7-systems, I would almost be willing to pay for you to try this. As I said, I'll post up what the frequencies and pressure levels are specifically a little later when I get an empty house again. I have attached my settings. Note the EQ is set to flat from 500Hz to 16KHz (the flat point isn't the midpoint).
  9. There shall be no further references to too many rf-7's...NO SUCH THING! I think your system idea sounds excellent. Do it, do it. Also, if you decide to go with something smaller in place of an rf-7 or two, I wouldn't get anything that was non-7 series (i.e. stick w/rc-7, rb-75, or even rs-7)...it's a different sound.
  10. i'm sorry but the words "too much" and "rf-7's" do not belong in the same sentence or idea...NO SUCH THING! I think your system idea sounds excellent. Do it, do it. Also, if you're doing a system like that, if you decide to go with something smaller in place of an rf-7 or two, I wouldn't get anything that was non-7 series (i.e. stick w/rc-7 rs-7 rb-75)...it's a different sound.
  11. Thanks guys, my speakers have been sold. And it's true. The RS-7's are diesel. I also went with them for their ability to keep up w/rf/rc-7's. I was well pleased with them. I'm going to give RB-75's a shot on the rear...Something about those 1.75" tweeters, yeyus.
  12. If you've got the time and the money, why not bring home a pair and try it out? Sure there are a lot of reasons why it's not optimal, but you never know til you try it. Do it for fun.
  13. I think the RF-15 is a fine speaker. I give it my vote over the RB-25 for fullness and depth. As nic points out, they're not near the rf35's, however, i was surprised by them when i auditioned them -- they're no lackies -- don't let the small stature fool you. I think you will be impressed by them when you get a chance to listen.
  14. Why most you be so pessimistic!? I'm doing good so far, have a small number of offers very close to my asking price. I also have a question: I have a NAD 6.1 receiver I'm trying to sell as well since I just bought B&K. (I plugged it in my post where i asking about NAD vs. Pioneer Elite) -- Would it be inappropriate to start a new thread for selling that receiver in HT?
  15. B&K: Thumbs up. Compared the NAD, the B&K: *was more sibilant, but not harsh (don't know how they pulled that off)..I think I prefer the NAD sound in general still *the bass was much noticably less *the raw output was similar *white noise floor was much lower, I can enjoy my system at very low levels w/my 7 system *the surround was more unified I talked to my dealer -- he told me that B&K was Motorola's ALPHA (not BETA) test site for Surround. Henceforth, B&K and Motorola keep a lot of secrets that don't get passed down the chain. According to my guy, the surround is better on B&K than even Krell, admitted by Krell when he called to ask (he had a B&K unit and bought a Krell unit expecting it to blow away the B&K). Anyways, I use a Dolby Digital encoder to play my music through a digital output from a PC -- b/c the bass gets downmixed, to my fronts and center in my receiver (very nicely might i add) I had my encoder create a LFE and I just boosted the level of it and it pulled up my low end in it's entirety. The end result is quite nice. I am completely impressed. The NAD is an amazing unit as it blew away the Denons and Yamahas I was shopping. All the same, the B&K is a keeper. Now to ebay to sell my NAD T753. SELLING PLUG:If anyone is interested, check out nadelectronics.com model T753. My unit is 10 weeks old (immaculate, all box/manuals) and carries a 5 yr extended warranty through Tweeter (hence should you need to, you can actually get it serviced in your area). I bought it at a NOW Audio/Video but they got bought out by Tweeter and their warrantying is grandfathered into Tweeter. Anyways, $600 + shipping with full authorized warranty + 5 yr (total) extended warranty. The unit retails at $1000. Private message/email me if you are interested.
  16. As a strange turn of events today, I went intending to take home a Pioneer Elite receiver today, but I picked up a B&K AVR-202 instead. It was the last one the dealer had in the region. I'll let you guys know how it is compared to the NAD I have.
  17. Excellent picky and jdilks...I'm going to go investigate some Pioneer Elite gear today. As noted picky, it's just NAD's HT receivers that do this -- I had their integrated amp (C372) right before the receiver and experienced zero noise.
  18. By the way, I live in Chapel Hill, NC. Local pickup definitely available and for $50 less save shipping. ...also, if I don't get any hits on these soon, I would be happy to consider reasonable offers via Private Message.
  19. No groundloops here. You don't even have to have anything plugged into it. it's just characteristic of their receiver line. Don't get me wrong, they sound amazing...a lot like their integrated amps.
  20. Well, I already have the NAD (and it sounds amazing)...And I kick a cool 123 db as is. So power and volume are not the concern. However, the white noise from the NAD is intolerable and not model dependent for their receiver line (friend has T773, same deal). I want to be able to enjoy my music at LOW volumes and the abundance of white noise (trust me, it's a lot) is ruining that option. The excessive white noise (hiss) is characteristic of all NAD receivers this year BUT only a real issue if your speakers are superefficient (like the 7 system I have) sooo Any qualitative information about Pioneer Elite receiver sounds (around model RSX-54tx) (preferably comparing to NAD) but other references are welcome as well -- would be awesome.
  21. Hey all, Not even 3 months old, I purchased these from a local dealer. However, I've got the itch for bigger rears. They have been mounted in a non-smoking home and are pristine. First $600 gets them. I pay shipping.
  22. I currently have a NAD T-753. I love it. It's primarily for music. I'm running Klipsch RF-7 RC-7 RS-7 What I can't stand is the white noise that's always on from it. It would be a non-issue, but the fact is these speakers are 14db more efficient than most speakers. The NAD C372 I had before it had zero noise. I asked my local dealer and they recommended giving Pioneer Elite (VSX-54tx) a shot. Has anyone had any direct experience with NAD vs. Pioneer Elite Receivers with this speaker set up or a similar one? I would like qualitative information about the sound of the Pioneer Elite gear. I'm hoping it has some of the same musical characteristics that made me choose NAD over higher end Yamaha and Denon (Truer Piano, wider grabbing soundstage). Any suggestions/information would be great! Also, anyone familiar with a way I can get Pioneer Elite units with warranty but at cheap prices? -- the local dealer changed ownership and they aren't so free to discount me anymore.
  23. So you'll get different response characteristics.... ...anyone care to offer which response curve actually works out better in-room? I definitely only have complete holes in the system at 30 Hz and under. Please don't simply site that the RSW-15 will clearly match my 7 system (RC/F/S-7) as I'm sure I can rock nike socks with my adidas. I'm still looking for personal experience above all, but all the same, all suggestions still welcome.
