  1. These are the best looking La Scalas I've seen! I found them on Wardsweb site at

    www.Wardsweb.org

go to speakers and then misc vintage.

Khorns and Belles got the looks in the Heritage family but some LS like these are out there. Anyone have pics of other LS that have been given a new look?

  2. Wardsweb,

I tried to send you a email but don't know if it worked. I may be in San Antonio on Sunday Feb 2 around 7:00 PM. If you did not get my email let me know and I'll send it again.

For anyone who wants to see the best looking pair of La Scalas go to Wardsweb website

    www.wardsweb.org

    and go to speakers!

  3. I live in Austin and am waiting on a new pair of La Scalas but if these had been for sell before Nov 15 I would have bought them!

Anyone who is interested in them and need me to take a look and listen I would love to see and hear them if it is okay with the seller. I am not a audiophile so I would not be able to answer any tech questions but I can make sure the tweters, midrange, and bass is working and look for any cosmetic problems

  4. I also own KLF 20's and your right about being harsh unless matched with the right amp. In 2001 I bought a Monarchy Audio SM 70 25 watt stereo amp with a Dennon A/V 4800 receiver that was a good match for the 20's. Still a tad bit bright but not extreme. I also have the matching center channel with SB3's for rears and the RSW 12 sub.

In Nov I ordered a pair of new La Scalas and decided to buy two new Monarchy SM 70 Pro monoblocks 80 watts, the new version of the amp I bought in 2001, for the La Scalas. When I hooked them up the highs were very detailed and the bass was tighter but they were much more harsh than the single SM 70. After two weeks I went down to Lowes and bought some 14 gauge speaker wire and some RCA basic cables that I ran from my cd to the receiver. Sounds much better than before still a bit harsh but I'm hoping with a some more burn in time it will calm down some more.

I was looking at welborne's DRD 45 and may get a pair to match with my Luxman C300 preamp and La Scalas and use the SM 70's for home theater. Using the Dennon as a preamp with the single 70 sounded very good but with the sub added in sounds even better. I don't know what your budget is but cutthroat bought some Welborne DRD 45s and loves them. You can buy the kit and build it yourself saving $300 or have Welborne build it. You might contact him about them. Go to www.welbornelabs.com and check it out. Well good luck and the 20's are excellent speakers I have enjoyed mine very much.

  5. My new pair of La Scalas I'm waiting on Klipsch to build were $3500 with the grills and tax, No grills -$100. I thought about a used pair but I work a lot and do not have time to fix them up.

Dean it has been 25 to 30 years since I heard a pair of Khorns and only once. My best friend used LS playing at parties. I know the sound of LS and THAT IS WHAT I WANT. My room is 15x15 and may not be the best room in the world for LS but I won't be in this house forever. IF YOU WANT THE KHORNS GO FOR IT! If you have kids when they go to college maybe one of there rooms could be your new audio room. Sooner or later you will find a larger room for them. Do what you want I am!

  6. I don't see DVD audio or SACD getting rid of CDs as fast as records disappered.

There are a lot of people who still don't have 5.1 yet and do not want it.

What I'm doing is my La Scalas are going to be used in both my home theater and 2 channel system. I'm still waiting on the La Scalas to be made and my preamp should be on it's way. The last piece of the puzzle is a Luxman system selector. I have a Dennon receiver and DVD for home theater and a preamp and 2 SS amps and CD player for 2 channel.

The way it works is the 2 SS amps are hooked up to the left and right speakers. You then plug the cables from the amps into the output of the system selector. Then plug the L&R output cables for from the HT receiver into the input on the System selector and do the same for the output cables from the preamp. Then all you have to do is push a button on the system selector to pick which system you want to use. The only thing is you have to have a stereo amp or in my case 2 mono amps. I have a HT system and about 2 months ago I decided it sounded good but I wanted great! So I think this set up will work for my needs. If you wanted to keep a HT room and a 2 channel room then of course it won't work. I don't see DVD audio or SACD getting rid of CDs as fast as records disappered.

  7. After working with the stereo I realized that my 1991 Luxman receiver I'm using temporary as a preamp was causing 60-70% of the hiss. When I turn down the treble on the Luxman the hiss also goes down. When I turn on the amps without the receiver there is a slight hiss. But when I turn on the receiver the hiss becomes much louder!

I'm waiting on a preamp so I can take out the receiver and put it in my bedroom. I'm going to try a few other things.

  8. I have been running my KLF 20s thru a Dennon 4800 which sounds very good for home theater but just okay for stereo.

So I'm getting a preamp and 2 monoblock amps and also buying some new La Scalas. So I would tell your friend to go with a preamp and amp. If his budget is tight then have him check Ebay for deals.

  9. I talked to Monarchy Audio and they said they could send me a fix that would get rid of the hiss. I wondered why he did not include this with all amps but most speakers are not 104 DB! So I'll see if it works.

  10. That is what I'm worried about with the LS John. I tried your suggestion and unplugging the preamp did not work. I'm going to contact Mr Poon about your idea of turning the input gains down and see if he can offer any other suggestions. Monarchy Audio has a DAC model 22c that has gotten good reviews if I cannot get rid of the hiss then I may see if I can send back the amps and do a trade for the 22c and a DIP Upsampler. The single SM 70 I have does not have extreme hiss like the pro does so I can run it with the LS until I can come up with an new amp. My preamp right now is a 1991 Luxman stereo reciever but I bought a 1983 Luxman C300 preamp that I'm waiting to be delivered. My friend has the same preamp hooked up to LS with a Hafler dh 200 that sounds great so maybe I will try a new Hafler or any ideas that you have. Thanks for the help.

  11. I have KLF 20s and I just bought 2 Monarchy Audio SM 70 Pros with 80 watts as monoblocks. They sound great but the problem is that there is notible hiss. When the music is playing I don't hear the hiss unless I realy crank up the volume. The only time is when the volume is down all the way.

The real problem is I ordered new La Scalas which are 104 db while the KLF 20s are 99 db. So I'm worried with the LS the hiss will be unbearable. I added 2 prong adapters to the power cords but did not help.

Are their any other things I might try to get rid of or reduce the hiss? Any help would be appreciated!

  12. The SM 70 is not being made anymore but the SM 70 Pro is. I just bought 2 SM 70 Pros running as monoblocks with 80 watts. They sound fantastic! Right now I'm running KLF 20s with them but put in an order for some new La Scalas.

Two years ago I bought a single SM 70 and used it in stereo at 25 watts and the 20's sounded great. The only problem I had with the 70 was the hiss was somewhat loud. I was told to add a 2 prong adapter for the power cord to stop the hiss. It stoped about 85% of the hiss so that worked for me.

Now that I have the 70 pros I had the same hiss problem but adding the 2 prong adapter did not work. Where I sit on my couch is about 9-10 feet from the speakers and with the volume down I can hear the hiss. Not extremly loud but it is loud enough to hear on the couch. I'm worried that KLF 20s are 99db and I can hear the hiss so La Scalas at 104db may be unbearable hiss.

I'm contacting Monarchy Audio to see if they can offer any other solutions and if any one on the forums know of anything that could help I would be in your debt. I don't want to send the amps back because I love their sound! I have never heard LS through tubes before but sooner or later I will go that route. The sound of the 70 pros for SS amps are very detailed and though not as warm or rich sounding as tubes are suppose to be they sound very good for SS.

Well take care and enjoy the music!

  13. My best friend used to own a pair of LS and the bass TO ME sounds more muscial however I have not heard Khorns in 25 years so I cannot compare the two. When I have heard live music (I live in Austin, TX lots of live music) the bass is fast and tight not boomy. For me the LS bass is the way I like it. So if you like bass like I do then you will love the LS but if you want to use the LS bass in a home theater then you will have to buy a sub. The LS bass would be ok for home theater but with a good sub just adds more to the sound of home theater.

In Nov I put in an order for some new LS that I should have in Jan. I also have the RSW 12 so if I do need the extra bass I have it. I have been using my sub with KLF 20s with excellent results. This set up sounds like the LS bass to me but I don't set the sub to the point where the bass starts sounding boomy.

Do what I did when I went to audition my sub. I went through my music and found 10-14 songs that had strong bass. Then I recorded a cd with those songs on it. It helped me make my choice. I recomend that you do this with two cds. One for bass and one of your favorite songs. This will give you an idea of how your music sounds on LS.

If the LS are not hooked up to quaility componets then you will not like them. Find out what they are hooked up to. If it is not very good system then ask if you could bring your preamp and amp(if you feel comfortable doing this) over. You are thinking about spending alot of money so make sure your system matches the speakers. I know taking the preamp and amp over would be alot of trouble but it is the only way to know for sure how the LS would sound for you.

  14. What is the website for Lam audio? I am waiting for some new La Scalas and I purchased a Luxman C300 preamp on ebay but from what everyone says tubes give the best sound so sooner or later I will get a tube preamp and amp. For now I will run the Luxman with 2 Monarchy Audio SM 70 pros. The price of the Lam preamp is sounds great. Do you think it would be a good first tube preamp? Thanks for any help!

  15. I just ordered some new La Scalas and I'm looking for some new types of music. You mention Hiroshi @ Early Records.what. what is the last part of the web addresse, .com .net ? IF these CDs are coming from Japan how long does it take? Any other music suggestions? Thanks for the info.

  16. I think that Klipsch has been wrong in how they have been marketing the Heritage line! I also agree with IB SLAMMIN that Klipsch needs to market the heritage line a lot more. The only advertisements I've seen are the few pictures of the heritage line on the Klipsch website. I think if more people could hear these speakers and be made to understand the importance of quality componets to run the speakers then they might sell better. Instead of asking audio dealers to carry the whole Heritage line have the La Scala or Khorns, or Belles so that people could at least hear one of the Heritage line of speakers.
