  1. I have been considering upgrading my 5.1 reciever to 7.1. I have RB-3's and an RC-3 II up front and 2 old speakers as rears. After shelling out $500-700 on my reciever, I am going to be strapped for cash, so putting 4 reference surrounds in the rear is not a current option. I can get klipsch quintets for about $50 each on ebay. Would this be a big mistake, or would this be an acceptable holdover until I can buy matching reference series surrounds? I hear alot about timbre and voice matching in this forum. How far apart are these speakers , and how important is timbre matching from front to back?
  2. I purchased a used RC3 center channel speaker for my home theater. I expected to be blown away, but the sound quality just is not great. Because this is my first klipsch speaker, and I did not have anything to compare it to, I thought that this was just the way it sounded. But after watching TV for a few hours, I began to think that there was something wrong with the speaker. The sound is harsh. S's are over pronounced almost to the point of a hiss. Maybe something got rattled loose or broken inside during shipping. So, I did some experimenting. I removed the brackets that connect the two sets of post and hooked the speaker wire to the bottom post alone. It sounded just like before. When I hooked the wires to just the top post, there was very little sound coming out. I had to crank the amp to hear it clearly. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? Anything I can try doing? My local repair shop wants $40 dollars to do a diagnostic with a $135 authorization. I only paid $150 total for the speaker.
  3. OK, I have done some experimenting. I removed the brackets and hooked up my speaker wire only to the bottom set of posts (I think the woofers) and the sounded just like it did with the brackets on. So, I hooked up the wires to just the top posts (I assume the horn) and got very little sound. I had to crank the volume way up to hear. I am assuming this is not normal. Does this sound like a problem with the horn, horn driver, crossover...? Does anyuone have any advise? I am not opposed to opening up the speaker. What should I look for?
  4. I purchased a used RC3 Center Speaker on ebay. When I hooked it up to my reciever, I expected to be blown away. I was not. It did not sound much better than the cheap yamaha center speaker it replaced. It sounds very bright but not rich and deep. And though there is not a hiss or buzz, the S's in the vocals are over pronounced. Shattering glass and bullet fire sounds wonderful, but not much else. I have a Radio Shack sound meter that I use to balance the sound levels of all the channels with a pink noise test. When the signal is on the RC3 the volume starts low and slowly gets louder. This is my first klipsch speaker, and I think something is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?
