  1. Equipment: Denon AVR-1804, Klipsch RW-10, 2 Klipsch Kg2 (front speakers), Center speaker Klipsch RC25 Problem: No subwoofer under any play conditio, DVD or CD. I just trundled through some posts and found a suggestion to set my front speaker to 'small'. Voila! Subwoofer response. (playing CD). Demonstrate to my wife the seting change & effect on system - so I set my front speakers back to 'large' expecting to lose my subwoofer. Well, of course I now have subwoofer working with 'large' front speakers. Anyone have an idea why my subwoofer may have stopped responding to signal? Thanks.
  2. Hope I've selected the correct forum for this question. I have a Harmon Kardon TL8500 CD player/changer. 5 disk carousel. It has been out of commission for about 4 years. For various reasons I have not had it repaired, now I am considering taking it into the shop. The problem in the player is mechanical. The tray carousel adjusts for CD selected, but the player does not 'pick up' the disk & play it. When the disk is picked, the CD will play. This is a nice unit that I am not comfortable throwing away. Now my question - has technology changed enough in 13 years to justify replacement over repair? Are digital to analog converters noticeably better today (aurally) than in 1993 to recommend replacement? How long do vendors maintain a parts inventory for older models? Thanks for your thoughts.
  3. OK - I've learned a little more. When my video input is DVD, sub-woofer signal is sent when the Mode = Direct, or 5 CH Stereo. Dolby & Neo6 are not driving any signal to sub-woofer. I'm probably wrong, but it sems to me that this is differnt from before. To clarify the conversation: I'm not fully geared up for complete surround sound ($ needed for kid's tuition, ). I have L, R, Center & sub. Also, I do have a digital coax from DVD player to receiver. This negates Neo6 mode? Please educate me on what the digital interconnect provides. Forgive my HT ignorance. I originally upgraded my gear to improve my listening experience for music audio. The DVD is an extra bonus that I did not expect to enjoy as much as I have.
  4. It is on. Sub is receiving signal from CD. DVD & CD are being played through the same component.
  5. I had to travel on business last week. Thanks to my wife, I've come home to a system that doesn't deliver any sound thru the sub-woofer while watching DVDs. System still delivers signal to sub-woofer while listening to CDs. Denon AVR-1804, Klipsch RW-10 for sub-woofer. In general I use Neo6 cinema mode for DVD viewing. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
  6. For bass work I recommend Jaco Pastorius of Weather Report, on Teen Town on the album Weather Report.

    starting over

Had to return my HK. Missing a feature I needed - phonograph!. Still have some quality tunes on vinyl. Replaced HK w/ Denon. Very pleased. New question, same subject. When setting up my kg2 front speakers using the HT setup program, are these 'small' or 'large' speakers. Same question about my RC-25 center channel speaker. Thanks
  8. Most of my audio gear is now boat anchor material. Decided today to start upgrading (albeit slowly) a standard stereo setup into equipment that can grow into HT & surround sound audio, Today I picked up an HK AVR23. My legacy speakers are Klipsch kg2. Will these speakers be OK as the front L/R channels in a surround sound config? If so, recommendations for center channel & back speakers are solicited. Thanks
