  1. Cabinets started out life as Wharfedale Airdale that I converted.
  2. The veneer came from Ebay of all places. It is raw 1/32 veneer.
  3. First off, I hate to disappoint but these are not Khorns, but rather some DIY JBL corner horns I built.
  4. After I posted this pic, there were many questions, so thought I would start a thread on it. I'll post a few pics here but you can see the entire project on my website: Wardsweb's Corner Horns The veneer was glued on raw with wood glue and in some places 3M stray adhesive. It was then hand block sanded starting with 320 grit, working my way up to 1000. Then a couple coats of DEFT semi-gloss laquer finish. That's it, nothing special. It's just very pretty wood and the DEFT is good stuff.
  5. As not to high jack this thread, I will start a new one for the veneer job I did.
  6. If it's now to far I can bring a couple pairs of mono blocks to drive speakers; Shanling SP-80 tube and Carver Silver 7t solid state. Gee I guess I could even bring a flea stereo 6DN7 for grins.
  7. Ah yes, exotic woods are beautiful, rich and warm. Here are the tops to some corner horns I did in Brazilian rosewood.
  8. If it's within a few hours of San Antonio, I 'll make the trip. Might bring a friend along who ownes a few pair of Klipsch (and everything else). KHorns Pro Heresy Pro something I forget, huge though. LaScala too, need to get a good pic of them.
  9. I'm very happy with the HRS weight I have been using. Again there are many roads to nirvana; clamp or weight. Each has it's own pros and cons. Things to consider for weights is if your stindle is capable of handling the additional weight. Clamps can do a little better job on warped vinyl but both serve the purpose of coupling the vinyl to the platter. This usually gives you better bass and less resonance. Again it depends on other factors too like platter material and the ouput level of your cartridge. Vinyl really pushes home the whole synergy thing.
  10. While we are on the subject of vinyl, here is a link to a web site with a rosewood plinth Sota Sapphire table for sale. http://www.2channelaudio.net/
  11. I'm scheduled to meet with the Houston Audio Society group at Ne Plus on March 19th. I figured I would be safer in a group.
  12. Great write up. Remember audio nirvana is a journey. The important thing is not necessarily the destination but having fun on the trip there.
  13. Is that not stock? Again, I 've never seen stock before, so I have nothing to compare to.
  14. I take it you are considering seeing Galen here in San Antonio? Have you been to Ne Plus Ultra in Austin? http://www.neplusultrainc.com
  15. Having never heard original Cornwalls, I can't compare, but these have excellent imaging and that sweet open forward sound that only horns can give. There really are very nice sounding speakers. Brings music to life.
  16. Arnold's Burger, 1611 S. Washington St. Amarillo, TX 79102 Warning: wimps need not apply. This monster deemed the largest burger in Texas can feed a family of 15-20. Seriously, this thing is HUGE.
  17. I wouldn' t know the difference, as they came this way.
  18. Here is the inside of the modified Cornwalls, dampened drivers and horns with ALK crossovers.
  19. That is one very sweet table. Just a tad more than my budget allowed. The mass in mine is mostly in the stainless pucks.
  20. I drove up to Austin last night to get these.
  21. I really need to do some extended listening, but on first impressions, they sound really nice. I like horns and these fit that bill. They are open with a good sound stage. Now these do have the "ALK" crossover, so I don't know how that differs from the original sound. The A7's do have more depth, but then with the larger horn that was to be expected.
  22. Let's see, the next meet is actually in McKinney on March 18th. You can keep a watch on the Lone Star Bottleheads Website to track our events. We try to hold one every other month and they are always on the weekend. The A7's are Altec Voice of the Theatre in 825 cabinets. They are a two way design using a 416-8C driver for the bottom end, a 802-8G compression driver matted to a 511B horn for top end duty.
  23. Thank you. I do love audio in all it's many forms, but vinyl, tubes and horns are heaven on earth.
