  1. Actually, I can, and will demo both. So for DVD's the KSW did well? I wouldn't worry so much about this, but whatever I choose between the two it's going to be a final sale b/c the sub I am exchanging was bought almost 2 months ago...well beyond their normal return time.
  2. Normally that would be the case, but I get items sent to a shipping receiver in a small town 5 min. from me across the border in Washington...saves me brokerage, and extra shipping fees. You're right though, even after all that, it might not be worth it. As far as the other models go, unfortuantely, the retailer that is doing the exchange only carries Klipsch, and Jamo subs.
  3. The RSW would be nice, but it is out of my price-range now, and probably later as well. It really does come down to the RW-10 or KSW-15 at this point. It is all contingent on the return value of the 10" helping me out with the upgrade, otherwise I would go SVS.
  4. Hi, I just picked up a pair of RF-3 II's, and a pair of RB-5 II's the other day, and am very happy with them; the only problem now is my KSW-10 just doesn't seen to perform well with this set-up. I can't afford the reccomended woofer (RSW-10), but my retailer has given me the option of exchanging the 10" for a KSW-15 @ $450.00 minus $230.00 for the KSW-10...within my budget. The other option would be going with the RW-10 for $575.00. So basically it comes down to a KSW-15 and save a few bucks or a RW-10.....if the RW-10 is noticeably better than the KSW-15 than I don't mind shelling out the extra cash, if not, and the 15" is a good fit, then I'll go that way. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  5. I bought mine from "J&R Music World" for approx $780 w/ 2 day UPS. They were good...shipped when they said they would, and it arrived in good condition. Not really endorsing them, just giving my experience. Differences include less wattage on the 630, no balance, bass, treble knobs on the front, no optical, coaxial, s-vid, and composite on front, less in's & out's on the back etc. etc....
  6. I went on a short Sony receiver binge recently, tried out the 2000ES, and 3000ES, to make a long story short, I was very dissapointed. I felt duped with the power output, and the "hissing" drove me mad. The technology behind Sony's new receivers is pretty amazing, but a few bugs need to be worked out IMO. Having said that, It seems that almost everyone who went with the 5000ES are happy customers.
  7. IMO, best bang for buck right now is the H/K AVR7200 for around $750. I can only compare it to what I have tried out for any length of time - the Denon 3803, Marantz 7300ose, and the Onkyo 801. I tried the new Sony ES's (2000 + 3000), but IMHO they don't deserve mention. The Onkyo is a fine receiver as well...actually they all are, but am satasfied the most with the H/K.
  8. Can't really comment on the Rotel, but I just snagged the H/K 7200 - so far pretty impressesd with it. Manufacturer link below: http://www.harmankardon.com/product_detail.asp?cat=REC∏=AVR%207200&sType=C Got it from J&R Music World pricematched with Onecall.com.. worked out to something like $784.00 with 2nd day UPS. Pretty killer deal for what you get.
  9. Illegal; not sure. Personally, I wouldn't wan't the hassle. On a side note, I am realizing my poor KSW-10 sub is a bit overwhelmed now...almost seems like it isn't there at all.
  10. Yea, they were 54% off MSRP. I pay 14.5% tax up here though.
  11. I got a nice price on the RB-5 II's @ $599.00 CDN which is equivalent to $450.00 USD, and the pair of RF-3 II's were $869.00 CDN or $650.00 USD...not quite as good a deal it seems after looking on the web. The RC-3 II should be here Friday
  12. I went into my local retailer to pick up 4 RB-5 II's and instead walked out with 2x RB-5 II's, and a pair of RF-3 II's. I didn't have access to the complete specs then and there so I relied on the salesman for my info. My goal was/is to find a perfect match (or close to it). Now that I am home, and looking at the website specs, frankly, I still can't determine if they are a match or not. One thing I can say for sure - these speakers, IMO, sound awesome....twice as good as any other manufacturers I listened to in the same price range.
  13. Now that I am looking around, I can see that wasn't a great price on the center at my store. 007 - Nice deal there, even the RC-35 is a good price. I will doo some research on there rep and give them a call. Thanks!
  14. Nobody within a reasonable distance. I am actually up here in Canada and Klipsch dealers aren't all over the place, and the ones that are usually have the newest stuff out. Going to get the salesman at this store to hook up a set for me. Pretty much decided on the 5's, that just leaves the center......they all seem a little pricy though. Btw, those prices are in USD, converted at today's rate....easier that way.
  15. Thanks for the opinions. DougDrake - Agreed, 7.1 for the size of my room may not be appropriate, but right now the price for a pair of rear speakers relative to the price for a 6.1 rear center makes it tempting. It also means I get to fill up all the speaker outputs on my reciever. . Sounds like the RB-5II's are pretty good in your opinion. Thors - Those 3's at that price makes them attractive. Is the RC-25 not that great of a match for what's available? ccsakura - looks like another vote for RB-5II's, and waiting until I can afford something else to fill out the setup. Essentially, I could grab 6 RB3's or 4 RB5's, and the center. Still on the fence, but probably leaning towards the RB-5's....depends on how much better the 5's sound. Too bad that they don't have 'em setup, but input from here is the next best thing. EDIT: Juba - 'nother vote for the 5's. Yea, that center wasn't really on sale...they do have another center there..quite a bit larger (didn't check the model) for $450.00. Will have to check...actually, I think it was the RC-35.
  16. I am upgrading from the Quintet II's, and a local retailer is getting rid of older Klipsch stock at what I think are nice prices. Here is what they have: RB-3's = $300/pr RB-5II's = $450/pr SB-3's = $275/pr RC-25 = $300 SC-1 = $150.00 Any of these speakers are a significant upgrade from what I am using. I plan on keeping my KSW-10 to keep costs low, but would like 3 new pairs of speakers for 7.1. If I went for the RB-5II's I could only get 2 pair and the center - going with the others allows a complete setup. The retailer isn't really organized for demonstrations, so I am looking for opinions on the speakers keeping in mind my budget. It might be important to note that I live in a small carpeted space. Thanks, Jason
  17. Funny. Like I said that was my "fantasy" about my "dream" system; I am far from being in a position to afford that :/. Besides, after a little more research, $40,000 is needed for the amp and pre-amp alone...Mark Levinson was the manufacturer I believe. I was amazed at the equipment that is out there, and the $$$$ it costs. BTW, I am actually a Zamboni driver(p/t), Power Engr.(boring, unemployed), and a re-born student(f/t), not actually a cab driver.....not that there is anything wrong with that I am curious....I pay 14.5% taxes on virtually everything up here, what are taxes like in the U.S.?
  18. How is Audio Advisor as a retailer? Pretty reliable?
  19. I decided to grab the extra Quintet's when the right deal comes along, and continue to fanatasize about my dream system. I created a nice home theater setup for around $40,000 USD that would be sufficient.
  20. That is the way to go, if I start mismatching I won't be satisfied. Ultimately, I am never satasfied until I land something in the mid-high range...not "high" (not comfortable w/ $$ spent), and not "middle" (not satasfied w/ quality)..."mid-high" (the sweet spot). I'll wait till I get out of school and command a decent salary....although, the way things are going these days, a degree will probably land me a job as a taxi driver (not that there is anything wrong with that ). Voice(s) of reason prevailed. Thanks, ~J.T. <-impulsive/compulsive buyer, bargain hunter, cab driver.
  21. "Attached" is a good word for it, but not in the way one might normally think of it; I am past my return/exchange time, therefore committed to the Quintets. Cutting my losses and switching to another setup would be too expensive. If I could start over I would do it differently; purchasing mid-range to higher-end speakers, not all at once, but as I could afford them, eventually creating a nice set. Having said that, the QII's are pretty darn good, especially for the $399.00 + $299.00 for the KSW-10(CDN dollars) I paid for them. Right now I could buy a pair of SF-1's for $479.00 CDN, and a SC-1 for $289.00 CDN.(prompting my original question), so if I could upgrade in that price range w/o making the Quintet's completely useless, I would do it....doesn't look like that path makes sense though.
  22. Wow, thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, Klipsch said they don't sell the Quintet's in singles etc., although I didn't ask if they sell replacement speakers specifically; I will try again. You're right about some Quintet micro theater 2-packs around the auction sites; might be the way to go. If I saw 2 silver QII's (longshot) I wouldn't hesitate. Thanks again for the input. P.S. WTB 2 silver QII's
  23. Thanks for the reply. So the SF-1's over the RSX's? Do you think the Quintet center will be sufficient or will it just get drowned out? Obviously this is far from the ideal setup; I just want to make sure it's not downright wrong/foolish.
  24. Howdy folks, I currently have the Quintet II system w/ KSW-10 sub, and would like to utilize the 7.1 functionality of my receiver (Sony STRDA100ES), but as I am sure you are all aware, the Quintets aren't sold seperately. Would two SF-1's for the front do the job (using the quintet's for surround) or are the RSX-4's in the front a better option? Btw, I am 50/50 on listening to music and watching movies. What would you suggest? I am on a tight budget (say $400.00) Thank you
