  1. well, I will have to check that place in appleton out! I'd have the time to drop by this summer after my final exams. I have a couple of weeks to relax before the summer job/class kicks in- it would be nice to finally hear some tubes..
  2. Good stuff! I just might try out one of those fork terminals, what have I got to lose?
  3. I have a sony sacd/dvd player with 5.1 analog outputs on it.. and this has it's own LFE out on it. My amp doesnt even have a LFE out because it is just a plain stereo amp. However, I find using a line out from my dvd player to my sub (amp is not in the path whatsoever) vs. using the lfe out sounds a little more powerful on the low end for some reason.. Anyways, thanks for the advice, I wouldnt want to go spending over 100 bucks on cables, especially if there isn't any real difference between a nicely shielded rca cable and a 'subwoofer cable' that is more expensive!
  4. I'm currently using an old pair of nicely shielded rca monster cables to go from my dvd line out to my rsw-12. Would buying a new pair of thx monster cables improve things much? That stuff is pretty spendy, especially if I buy one of them for both channels. I have found line out (2ch) to sound a little more powerful than using my dvd player's LFE output..
  5. I have a sony sacd/dvd player. After connecting a sub it sounded kinda funny, I could sometimes hear faint voices coming out or directional sounds coming out of my sub, then I looked in the manual and found out that the LFE is fixed at 120 hz. Why the heck would it be fixed at 120?? I would think 70-80 would be better suited for any application (music, movies, etc). Since sound is directional over 80 or 90 hz ( i think) it will just throw your system off, as some sounds will sound like they are coming from a box. Sorry to be totally random here- just had to fuss about my sony dvd player once. Maybe I could send it in to them and they could fix it to 80 hz for me:) yeah right.. Later.
  6. Auditioning is definitely going to be my first step here. I live in madison, wi and there isn't an incredible amount of quality audio shops around.. and I have no chance in bumming an old tube amp of a buddy because that is greek to them. I have a rather small apartment, would be willing to drop 200-400 bucks on a new amp (if i happen to like the sound of it more than my current ss), and like to listen to classic rock stuff , blues, miles davis, classical, electronic, talking heads, you name it. It seems my yamaha amp would fit better in my father's stereo.. his jbl speakers are much less efficient then my heresy's and are a little underpowered in his ht setup. Anyways- thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna have a look around:)
  7. Well everyone- not to say that I am disatisfied with my current solid state yamaha amp, which has <.015% thd, but I am interested in hearing my heritage speakers (heresy) hooked up with a tube amplifier. Could this really sound better than my yamaha solid state amp? What brands/specs should I be looking for if I choose to partake in the tube amp craze?
  8. Maybe I could filter on the input level- I was not aware that it would be much less expensive. I have a powered rsw-12 sub connected to my pre-out on my amp, so could I just run a cable from the unfiltered rca output to my main-in on my amp, and connect some sort of filter there?
  9. nope- no speaker level outs- just an unfiltered rca out, so the sub won't aid in filtering the low bass from the mains.
  10. Hey guys I was just wondering if it was possible to connect some sort of device to my speaker wires (that are coming out of my amp) which could just cut out any signal below a certain frequency (ex. 80 hz) and then run out to my speakers. My amp doesn't have a sub-out, therefore I have no way of blending 100% effectively with a sub, unless I can do this technique somehow. Any ideas? In the meantime I am just setting my sub crossover to match my heresy speakers, but I would like to adjust this to 70 or 80 hz, without the heresy's runnin at full range. Keep in mind that my sub only has an rca output which is unfiltered- so that won't do me any good. Buying a receiver would have been easier- but- I personally don't care for any of those surround modes or dsp effects that receiver's have on the sound.
  11. Good afternoon everyone. I recently picked up an rsw-12 from my local dealer, and they seem to be working nicely with my stereo setup (two '77 heresy's). The weird thing is, I have my sub set to about 44 hz. It sounds great- it almost seems like my heresy's go a little past what the specs say online. they seem to be going down to about 40-45 hz , is this possible? Using tone generators, the response seems to be the smoothest blend when I set around 44 hz. I have heard from some that the heresy's are too quiet under 65 hz however.. maybe my ears are deceiving me. Anyways- that rsw-12 is pretty good at hitting that deep bass:)
  12. Hey peoples=) I am about to pick up an rsw-12 from american (electronics and furniture store) and they are selling for 1299. I figure this is a pretty fair price, and I could get a 10 yr warranty for only 50 dollars. Does anybody know any authorized dealers that are charging a lowering price? If so, I could always do a price match. I was going to go with the rw-12, but I had to cancel that thought once I heard an rsw-12, which just sounds so much better it's ridiculous. Gonna go down and purchase on friday- if anybody knows of a lower price, let me know! *My specs are gonna be: Klipsch Heresy's '77 Yamaha ASX-596 Stereo Amplifier (<.015% THD) Klipsch RSW-12
  13. Looks like I have a little bit of shoppin' around to do- I know I will need a sub w/ speaker inputs/outputs for sure. Have any of you guys heard about the infinity alpha 1200s? You can get that one for a little cheaper than the rw-12 (550 or so), and it has 500 watts rms power- but the response only goes down to 28 hz. Do you even notice anything lower than that anyways? I'm goinf to listen to this one at the audio shop- let me know if you have any other recommendations - i wish there was a way I could audition the sw12 II or the velodyne before buying.. you never really know what you are gonna get until you actually get a chance to listen.
  14. Great- is that sub somewhat similar in performance to the rw-12? I might as well get a sub that will do a knock-up job for music.
  15. Thanks for the input everybody- but i guess there is no way that I could possibly filter the sound in my main speakers. If the main speakers only can connect to the amp itself- it would still be running at full range. If there are no outputs from the subwoofer how can the filtered signal (above x hz) be transmitted to my main speakers? This just seems kind of silly that they would leave something out like this- it makes it pretty much impossible to integrate this sub effectively with a traditional stereo system (not home theater). Are there any klipsch subs out there that have a speaker level output?? Is it important to get a similar namebrand sub w/ main speakers for tonal balance?
