  1. Also can anyone comment on Ultimate Outlet? It uses Tranzorbers instead of MOV's - is this comparable to series mode? Also it seems to be a good cleaning unit and not too limiting on power. In the product description it indicates that it would never wear out - of course i'm always skeptical. Anyone care to comment on this product as a better alternative to your average series mode product?
  2. jhawk92 - nice thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?postid=2421176#post2421176) - completely exhausting! I still havent completely finished it. Grif: I didnt see anyone else comment on your question which leaves me abit confused. I was hoping someone else might reply. If series mode has a joule rating it doesn't sound full proof - the question is how long is the life expectancy in a surge prone area? Again with just learning about mov and series mode technology i'm not familiar with tvss? Do I assume correctly that it not a simple plug in device? Also what kind of price range are you talking with a industrial grade solution? I tried a seach on the site for tvss but didnt see anything. Thanks for all of the comments, Bill
  3. Thanks for the info guys - i'm a little hesitant about going used with surge protection - realistically how long are they supposed to last with series mode protection? I just moved to an area that has an inordinate amount of lightning strikes (tampabay)so I need something with longevity. Bill
  4. Have been looking at some of the posts on power conditioners (alot of good information) and have been attempting to narrow it down between Adcom and Brickwall and have a few questions: Price: Brickwall PW8R15AUD (8 Outlet) runs $249 Adcom ACE-615 (similar setup it seems) $350-$450 Are their any different features from Adcom that you get for the extra price tag? Also i'm concered about my 15 AMP line not having enough juice. I'm currently running the following: Harman Kardon AVR7200, Klipsch RSW-10, RB-75 Bookshelves, RC-7 Center (havent purchased the other 4 speakers yet) and minimal equipment thus far for the extra DVD, VCR, TV etc that I plan on upgrading soon. Does it look like I might run into some issues here and have to convert to 20 Amps? And finally: is there anything else out there for this price range that runs series mode with dedicated outlets for your high watt reciever and subwoofer? Thanks for taking the time to read and helping because I feel like a fumbling novice! Bill
  5. Also OneCall called me back today - they are refunding me $43 - not bad at all!
  6. RDog, What cables do you use? I should receive my speakers by Tues but don't have a clue on what to purchase cable wise. Any recommendations?
  7. Good idea RDog! I just sent them an email. Man this unit weighs a ton! Can't wait to hook the speakers - unfortunately they have been delayed in shipping Bill
  8. After looking at onecall website it doesn't say anywhere that this is a new item. They can tell you anything over the phone - has anyone experienced them telling you that it was a new item and found out later that it was a return? Being authorized we can still go to the local HK service center - their website says this: Harman Kardon will cover the cost of replacement parts for two years as well as the labor required to install / service those parts. Simply bring the AVR7200 into your local Harman Kardon authorized service center and Harman Kardon will cover the charges. (Warranty period valid from date of purchase) At least you have this benefit but it sure seems crappy if they tell you its new and its actually used! OneCall did have some decent reviews on the web though- thats why I chose them!
  9. Russell, Thats not very good news to hear about this - I just bought one myself from OneCall - you got yours for $50 less then me - just recieved tonight - looks like a new unit but will have to wait to see if I have any issues - my speakers are coming in on Friday. On the return slip it says you have up to 15 days upon reciept to return defective merchandise. I'm crossing my fingers! Bill in Tampa
  10. Thanks for bringing up the topic R-Dog - I have been contemplating about buying the 525 but after comparing and reading these posts on the 7200 i'm sold!!! I have just purchased a full reference system and heck if i'm worring about the quality and I spent this much thus far what's an extra $200 anyway - well worth it in my opinion! Go Buccaneers! Bill (right down the road from Ray-Ja)
  11. Thats for your input guys! That helps! I wasn't sure between the 430 and 525 - however now I might be leaning to the 630! Have to give it a test Thanks, Bill
  12. I'm thinking of going with Harmon Kardon and i'm looking online at the AVR430,520,and 525 and notice that 430 is generally the most expensive, then the 520 then 525 - shouldn't it normally go in reverse?
  13. Hi Guys: Just wanted to find out if you thought this would be stupid. I have a RSW-10 (unused) and am planning a system purchase. Am having a hard time getting the buyoff from my wife to purchase anything but bookshelf fronts. We just went to a dealer who had the RB-75's on demo. Pretty impressive - so the salesmen said we would not have any matching issues if you purchase the 75's with the RC7 to match the 10's. Correct or should I stick with the 35's for a better match? Additionally what would be the recommended minimum $ spent on a reciever (with suggestions on what to buy) to power the RB-75's with RC7 - if im going with these I have to consider to keep the receiver price down if possible. And Finally - don't laugh - extreme novice here - i'm planning on starting with 5.1 and working my way up to 7.1 - when you purchase a 7.1 does it still give you an option to run 5.1 and 6.1 - I would assume so but have to check! Thanks for you thoughts! Bill
  14. Also Fish you had mentioned that you could get by with alot less power- is there anything that you recommend - say for $300? Am I going too low on that price for the performance I want with these speakers?
  15. Thanks for the replys! When I look on what Klipsch recommends they say when going with the RF-5 choose the RC7, and RS-7 - would that be stupid if I have only the RSW-10?
