  1. You have rg59 you need to upgrade to rg6 dual or quad sheilding. rg59 has high freq. rolloff. belden rg6 cost about $60 to $70 per 1000ft. The cable co. and sats all use rg6 now. You will see the difference. And look at your splitters they need to go to 1 gig some of the older ones only went to 500 or 750 mhz so this is your other problem. If you run new cable I would run two lines of rg6 and two lines of cat5 or cat6. when you sell your house it will be a good selling point but you may find it useful now. I just upgraded 10,000ft the splitters and amps at the tv station. Yes its a big system 4 drops and maybe 60 or 70 tv sets. we needed to upgrade for hdtv.
  2. My GTX went inthe bodyshop for some touchup its a ground. Boy the time and money but it looks great. I'm going to keep this one mild around 450 to 475hp. My next one a 57 DeSoto Firesweep with a 392 hemi will be the big horsepower car but thats not till I get the GTX done. Somewere I also need to finish my home theater.
  3. Jim I think what I'm looking for is 1,2 or 3 84 or older Cornwalls. But the 84 era would be best but would take 1 vert Cornwall for the center. I think that 5 Cornwall 1 with 2 Heresy 1 will sound great in my room. Thanks for all the input.
  4. Jim do you have 84 Cornwalls or just the Cornwall IIs? And what finish? Where in Colorado do you live?
  5. My Cornwalls are 84 so they have the composite horns and different drivers than the 70s Cornwalls. did they change them when they went to Cornwall II. I they are britter can you change the tap like a Heresy or is the crossover different? Thanks for the in put everyone. Does anyone have one or more Cornwalls for sale close to Colorado I will drive to pick them up. I need a road trip anyway.
  6. When I ordered my Cornwall in 84 it was said that the birch was the best sounding of the woods PWK offered. I don't know if its true or was just bs so don't flame me on that. But that particle board can not sound as good as a hardwood ply. By the way what is the year and the motor is that mopar my 68 GTX 440 convertable go's back in the body shop Monday morning.
  7. Yes the latter Cornwall IIs. I have 84 cornwalls and I'm looking for a match for a 5 Cornwalls set up that I want to build. There is a set of 86 Cornwall II 9 hours away. I'm looking for a good timber match but don't know anything about Cornwall IIs.
  8. Thats what I thought. Are the drivers and crossover different? Would they match up with Cornwall 1s. A closer match then Heresys or should I look for Cornwall 1s to match with my Cornwall 1s. I never heard Cornwall 2s. thanks for the input
  9. What year did they start cornwall 2s
  10. Some pepole like cat5 diy cables. I was using Audioquest Midnight cables on the main speakers and radio shack magacables (the flat ones). When I upgraded I moved my amp so I'm now using magacbles on the mains also the midnights are only 6'. Stereofile mag a few years ago said the magacables came close to the high priced ones. Can you hear the difference maybe but at what price. I have not tried the cat5 braid, if you have cat5 left over you can try it. If not you can try the radioshack the price is not bad. Everyone has their favorite cables. What I need to do when I have time is to move my amp and do a test between the midnights and the magacable to see if their is a difference. I also may build some cat5s to try. When their is time.
  11. Whats the difference between Cornwall 1 and 2. The speakers are mounted different. Will they sound the same?
  12. Yes I work at CBS in Colorado springs as a engineer. So I have been in audio and video since the 70s. I have received information from the forum for years just never entered the discussion. I was just looking to mod my speakers at the time and received the information I needed for my Cornwalls and heresys. And it was this forum that I bought my Academy in the first place but with my new lcd tv I can up grade to a Cornwall center. I'm looking forward to a all Cornwall front. That is if I can find some that are not on the east coast so the shipping is not the same cost as the speakers. It's good to be with the group.
  13. What about the difference of the sound between bipolar and dipolar speakers? I never ran dipolar speakers and they will be on side not the back. That is a haresy and will be up graded to a Cornwall later. Thanks for the input.
  14. Its not in Denver its in Colorado Springs. Its mine I put it at 7 of 10 becuase of the bottom paint, the top is very good. I try to be honest so the bottom brings it to 7. I'm only selling to buy a pair of cornwalls or one vert Cornwall. I think its a great speaker but need to sell to buy somthing else.
  15. My system is cornwalls and heresys. What I need are new side speakers and my room were I sit is only 15ft its l shaped. I was leaning to the rs7s but have never ran dipole speakers. what will I give up and gain with the two speakers. Not sure if I want heresys above someones head and need to hang it. Just looking for some input THANKS
  16. They are not speakers they are sound panels in the back ground. The sound panels are Sonex wraped with poly and burlap. I have panels around the room in 3 colors to blend into the room. The panels were being tossed out in a remodel at the tv station were I work. Still have 4 or 5 panel left may still put them in the room but I need to finish the bass tubes first. The panels helped with slap ehco. How is the sound match with a vert. Cornwall to say a 1984 Cornwall? Does the crossover need to be upgraded?
  17. Smilin how did you place your center? Is it on its side or did you build a custom? I now have a LCD tv and my old one was a Sony 32" crt that was moved to the garage now I can look at Heresy or Cornwall center. I think the Academy sounded better in the center with the Cornwalls than the Heresy. Thats why I'm looking to do a Cornwall in the center. Smilin are you running a sub? I've Had this setup since the mid 80s. The Academy came later. I was running a Caver C4000 preamp it was a 5 channel setup for music. This is my 3rd up grade but my first upgrade for the speakers. Plus its the first time for 7.1. Klipsch sould build a center for there Heritage speakers it looks like it would sell I would buy one. Thanks
  18. I think thats what I will do is build a Cornwall center. I may not have said it clearly. With the size of a Cornwall I will need to put it on its side. But you need to move the horns so thay are not on their side and off to one side of the tv. I was looking to build a custom center but now i'm looking to mod a Cornwall. Maybe block off the horn openings from the inside in a way so the speaker can be put back some day. And build a box for the horns to sit on top of the tv. I don't think the woofer will care if it's on it's side and with the horns on top of the tv the sound will come from the right place the center of the tv. This sould still have the sweet cornwall sound I love. Plus if I buy a pair of Cornwalls I can replace the heresy on the rear on a 6.1 system. I only have room for RS 7's on the sides. That sould be the sound i'm looking for from the system. I may be wrong what do you folks think. I only have money to do this once. I need to make up my mind so I can build a tv stand that will hold the center. I bought my Cornwalls new in 1984. With 4 Cornwalls do you think I will need a subwoofer? By the way i'm running 251 watts of power to the Cornwalls so thats not a problem. Thanks for any input.
  19. Just tried a Heresy center was using an Academy. Not sure if its the sound i'm looking for. I did dynamat the squawker it did help but not as smouth as the Academy or Cornwall my need a corn center. Has anyone put the woofer on the bottom and put the squawker and tweeter on top of the tv. Hope you like the pics. Anyone with the parts for one Cornwall? Just love the new Sony LCD tv.
  20. Sould be picking up my new Sony KF50WE610 on Tuesday. Since my old set was a sony crt I couldn't place a Heresy in the center to go with the Cornwall mains. I have a Academy on top of the tv now. The new Sony is LCD so I'm going to try a Hersey for the center. I will pull one from the rear I'm running 7.1 for the last month so I will drop to 6.1 for the test. I just up graded from a Denon AVP8000DTS 5.1 to a Denon AVR2803 7.1 it looks up front like a down grade but with my poweramps and using the 2803 as a preamp it sounds better. The top of the Sony is thin so speaker on top is harder but can be done with some building. So is anyone running a Heresy or custom cornwall on it's side under the tv and how does it sound. The best placement is the center of the tv but can't do that. I need to build a temp tv stand till I find out on center placement and if I'm going to build a custom cornwall for the center. Plus I need to look at a better side speaker like a RS7 it looks like a ok match for the Cornwalls or is their some thing better? Look what a few up grades do for you. But it's fun. Thanks for any help.
  21. I have 1984 Cornwalls and Academy center with Heresy's on the rear. Ijust went to 7.1 and i'm using a pair of Rock Soilds for the sides because thats what I have on hand. I would Heresy's but my room does not have the room till I remodel in a few years. My wife will not like sitting a Heresy. So how would a RS-7 sound with my set up or is their something better. I need to do something I like the 7.1 but the Rock Solids have to go.
  22. Yes I put new wires in my corns about 10 years ago. You dont have to go big bucks on speaker wire its a waste of money. You just need a large enough good quality wire lke Radio Shack mega flat wire its a 14 guage and the price is good.It was tested against the big money cable by a top flite audio mag and they said it was the same sound as the high dollar ones.So its not the dollars you spend but the gauge. When i re wired mine I also Dynamatted the back side of the horns and the two sounded great. It was more the dynamat than the wire. The dynamate smooths out the mid frequency in the Cornwall.Well worth the 20 or 30 dollars for the dynamate. And look at new and better caps if its more than 20 years old. Caps will break down after time. Their is alot of black magic out their so dont fall into the trap. But we all do from time to time.
  23. What year is the corn. Are you going to use the 15" on the center? It would sound better but what about the size. The new big screen Im looking at has a base but I guess one of the new LCD's could set on the center an not have the center on the top. What are you looking to do. Email for what your kooking to get form them and I guess I need the crossover. Thanks
  24. Im new to the forum I've boutht Cornwalls new about 1985 I love them. They are in a 7.1 home theater setup with Heresy on the surrounds with a Academy for the center. But I'm looking to build a center with two Heresy woofers and Cornwall squawker and tweeter. Or can I use the Heresy squawker and tweeter. And what about a crossover. Does any one have a squawker, tweeter or cross over for sale. thanks
