  1. My first home theater in the mid 80s I ran my corns as mains and herseys on the rear. I use to Carver C4000 pre pro it was a 5 channel stereo pre plus Carver M500t amps. The pre is a stereo amp with a center and rears that were delays. This was pre Dolby Prologic days plus I didn't use a center till I bought a Academy. This was a very good sounding system in it's day but it still sounds better than my Denon AVR 2803. I then replaced the Carver C4000 with a Denon AVP8000 pre amp and ran the Carver amps. This was a very good sounding system. But the DTS stop working and that was fine for some time till the up grade bug hit and I wanted to 6.1 or 7.1. So I made the big mistake of selling the Denon pre pro. I bought a Denon AVR 2803 to use as a pre till I up graded to a new pre pro. I needed to save up for that. The 2803 with the Carver amps sounds ok but not like the AVP 8000. I should have waited to sell it but I wanted the other channels. With this set up I sold my Academy and bought a pair of vert. Corns. One for center front and center rear. Now this was a good upgrade. Now a few mouths ago I bought a Sunfire Signature 400 x 7 power amps plus I'm still running the Denon AVR2803 as a pre. This amp did make the system sound better. I did try B & K and this also sounded better than the Carver amps, but the price was right on the Sunfire. Don't think the Carver is a bad sounding amp since I test drove over 15 amps and it was the best sounding amp with Corns at the time. Those Carver amps sound better than most receivers today and some of the new power amps out today at least with Cornwall's. My son now have my Carver amps for his RF 7's. I will replace the Denon 2803 with Sunfire Theater Grand when they update it with Dolby Digital Plus and hopefully HDMI. I don't want to spend that amount of coin and upgrade a year latter. It's hard to wait though because the Theater Grand IV makes the system just magical. Sorry to be long winded but this was a 22 year ride with my heritage HT. Just watch out because some amps just sound bad with heritage line.
  2. Oh yes the wife factor. Back in 84 when I bought my first pair of Cornwall's and the Carver C4000 pre pro and the Carver M500T power amp she said you want to spend how much. I told her to trust me and she did. And something happened I didn't believe, when we went to other peoples houses after we left she would say how bad their systems sounded and your system sounds so much better. Now all she will ask is are you sure you need to spend that much and I say yes ans I get a ok. Now to wait for the upgrade of the Sunfire theatergrade. Now that you have a good AVR start looking at your room. You can find some big improvements. Like where is the book case and where are the chairs? And for your sound meter use it to check before you use the mic and after to see how good it will setup the room. And have fun.
  3. You can't pass up a deal. That is how I ended up with the Sunfire. It was on my short list with B&K and a few others they all sounded good with my Cornwalls. But when Soundtrack closed at my house I was their on the last day and got it for $1500 and it list for $3500 so I could'nt pass that up. Tell us what you think about it after you have some time with with it. Now have some fun.
  4. Mid to lower bass will be tighter and better defined. I'm not talking about subs at all. You only get the 40 to 80 hz from a sub but you get your dynamics form your main speakers. The higher power will control the woofer better for a more defined sound from the lows. I've owed a few Denon's in the last 20 years and they all sound good but the more you soend the better the sound. When I sold my AVP 8000 pre pro and went to a 2803. I was very disapointed in the sound till I hooked up my set of Carver M500T power amps. And when I moved to a Sunfire 400 x 7 Power amp, My mid to low bass was even better. The 2106 will sound good but will not hold up to a 38xx. You get what you pay for, so I think a used 3803 or newer will sound better than a new 2106.
  5. Plus on top of that two new audio formats. Dolby Digital plus 7.1 and HD Dolby for more than 8 channels. This and the HDMI is why I'm waiting to buy a new pre amp. At lest my tv will take one DVI.
  6. A 2106 would be nice but a used 38XX would sound better. Just on the power side the quality of the parts will be better. Also with the higher power the bass should tighter and stronger. Plus the d/a's are of a higher quality, But it will be missing some of the new bells and whistles. But will you use them, most people don't. So it's up to you what are you looking for.
  7. I think most people don't use front projectors but use rear projector. As for setting the tv 40" up I think thats to high for sitting 10 to 15 feet away. The center line of the screen should be no more than 15 deg. from eye level. Putting the set on a vert Cornwall puts it at the wright hight. As for putting the speaker behind the screen goes. I don't think I would do that just because I don't run grills ether.
  8. Black may make a better center because it will blend in better when it's dark. If the rest of your speakers are cherry it will still be a good looking system.
  9. Oh I see your in TX. It helps to look.
  10. Cornwall's are made to be put in a corner or against a wall for the best bass. But thats not where I have mine. Mine are away from the walls slightly toe in. As to moving them try rocking as you move them that way you don't lift them. What state are you in? But if you find you don't like them someone on the forum my want them.
  11. I think going to 7.1 would be a good up grade. The new format with blueray or hddvd is dolby digital plus that 7.1. This may take a few years or it may be the new dvd's from the start. If you go to the Dolby web site it will tell you about the new format. So you may want to look at upgradeing for the future I am for a pair of Cornwall's togo to 7.1. and I will wait to get a new Sunfire preamp, that has Dolby Digital Plus.
  12. Not with LCD I don't know about Plasma though. I have my Sony LCD sitting on my vert Cornwall for 2 years now with no problems. It also puts it at the correct hight.
  13. My self I don't need sheilding with a lcd tv. I think you only need it with crt tv's.
  14. It would be nice to see a Vert. Cornwall III for a center channel. I wouldn't want go to a Heresy center after running a vert Cornwall. A home theater with 3, 5, or 7 Cornwall III,s would be great but I may not look to up grade with out a good speaker for the center. Plus I need to hear this thing to see if it is worth up grading from the Cornwall,s I now own. What do you guys think.
  15. Thats correct you never splice video cables and I don,t like to splice audio cable ether. You cut it down at the connector but it,s easy to melt the connector. The dielectric is plastic between the center pin and the ground and will not take much heat.
  16. First question is do you know how to solder. If not this would not be the job to learn on. If you can solder just keep the heat short on the plugs. I do things like this all day long at the tv station. You could just hide the cable under the rack or the tv so if you move things around you still have the cable long enough. So do you have a 68 GTX conventable? I,m restoring one now.
  17. With Blueray or HDDVD it will have Dolby Digital Plus that is 7.1. That is way I,m looking for a set of Cornwall,s to move from 6.1 to 7.1 on my syetem and my son may start with 5.1 but will need to move to 7.1 down the road. He can only run 6.1 with his receiver but you must look down the road so you only buy your speakers once.
  18. I bought my son a RC 7 for Christmas. Then he turned around a bought a pair of RF 7,s. They should be in Tuesday at the store. When we were looking at them they had a pair in stock but were sold minutes before we checked out. We saw a couple looking at them and they beat us to checking out so my son will wait a few days. Now the question I have is what do you think RS 7,s or RB 75 for the rears on a 7.1 system. No one in town has the RB 75,s in stock but we did listen to the RS 7,s. I would think 4 RB 75,s would sound better and match the RF 7,s better since they have the same tweeter. Plus I think the mono pole would be better for music. I never ran a speaker like the RS 7. We my need to take a ride to Denver and see if someone carries the RB 75. He bought the speakers at Ultimate (sound track) they are getting better with the deals because they beat the other shop in town. No one carries the Heritage line but Ultimate has a pair of the new Heresy III in the warehouse in Denver. They will not ship them to a store unless you buy them oh well I will not get to hear them. Thanks for any input.
  19. Sorry about that. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Does any one else live in Colorado?
  20. I have the other one painted black for my center. My L / R are from 84 and the center is from72 but the sound is great. I'm also running 2 birch Heresy's on the side rear. I would run Corns if I had more room. I push this with a Sunfire 400 x 7 amp. I bought the verts about 2 yrs ago when I sold my Academy center. I went from a crt to a lcd tv and could up grade. I did by the others new. I was running 5 channels since 84 with a Carver C 4000 pre amp and M 500 t amps. If I move the theater to the basement and take out a wall I may be able to run 7 Cornwall's. Thanks
  21. Thanks That what I was thinking. I will wait for a pair of C-BLS so if anyone knows of a set Email me. When I find a pair I will sell one C-MR-15 date 1972 vert Cornwall. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado I will wait to sell the vert. untill I find a set first. It may take some time. Thanks
  22. What is the finish on these Corns COL ? I have a set of C-BLS that I whant to match. to move from 6.1 to 7.1. If I can find a set for the back I can then sell 1 vert Cornwall. Thanks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5843882152&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

    New Amp

Ok so I was looking at RSW15s at the local Soundtrack that was closing. I was playing the lets make a deal game. Well some times you win and some times you lose at this game. I waited till the end and I lost on the sub they were all gone. Oh well but a Sunfire Signature 400 seven was sitting their. This amp was on my short list and my system was just lacking since I sold my Denon POA 8000 and POA8300 and POA8200 set and replaced it with a Denon AVR2803. The pre had some problems. So I was ready to play hardball. How does 63% off sound? it did to me. It now sits in my rack I just love deals. So I lost but won. The first thing I heard was power. It was night and day between the power in the Denon and the Sunfire. But that is not fair to the Denon they are not in the same price class. To say simply this is the best amp I have hooked up to my cornwalls in the last 20 years and I have tried a lot of amps. The bass is out standing I had to turn the bass to flat to sound the best. The highs are smooth and very open. The mids are also very tight Now I need to save my money for a Preamp, maybe the Sunfire and replace the receiver. You know that a short term fix last longer than you think I'm at 1 1/2 yrs with the receiver. Then I can move the Denon to the bedroom or the garage. But the bedroom system may not be up graded. It has a big Fisher tube amp and sounds great so it looks like the garage will get the receiver. Then I will need to find 4 beatup Heresys for the garage. Its a heated garage that I rebuild old Mopars in so I'm out their a lot. I have a pair of AR2's and a Sansui tube amp in the garage now. The amp sounds good but I need 4 or more speakers in their. Plus I want the Klipsch sound out their. Is their someone close to Colorado With a set of oiled birsch for the main system to replace HBR's their or betup ones.
  24. Would I be better off at a KW120 THX over the RSW15? With will go lower?
  25. Nope I have the right priority's. A used Porsche for the cost of a new Satarn and 5 years later The Porsche has the same value but not the Satarn. Plus the gas saving form my last driver. A 450hp 440ci 66 dodge it didn't pass any gas stations. But the house is taking all the money right now with fixing it up. can we say money pit. I just don't like to pay list on any thing. Will the RSW15 keep up with my Cornwall's? I will be up grading to add 1 more Corn to make it 5 with 2 Heresy's So I would think I need a lot of sub to keep up with them. Thanks
