  1. Very "punny"! What do you folks suggest about how I go about having somebody modify or replace the original crossovers in my LaScalas? I live in the Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater area and based on past experience, wouldn't think of doing it myself. Thanks to all for your responses. Spider
  2. Hi all, I bought 2 Black LaScalas about 16 months ago with identification on the back: 155316, 155315 LS BR. tested by M. Bradford.. Can anyone tell me anything about them? Also original crossovers seem OK--at least I am thrilled with the sound. These are paired with Carey 14 W tube integ amp. Question: should I have the crossovers updated? If so what will I gain. By the way, I wear hearing aids but the clean sound to me, is dramatic. Any ideas or information will be appreciated.
  3. I have a Cary 300SEI integ amp to drive my LS. Am auditioning the Cary 308 CD player and it sounds great on most music. However some old favorite vocal and a cappella CD's sound terrible. These CD sound fine on my 20 year old Luxman CD player.. any suggestions for a replacment player and/or why this might be happening? The Carey sounds great on most other music (at least to my ears). TIA Spider
  4. Sorry, I do know better. Room is about 16X 19 X 8=2432 cu ft.I enjoy and listen to practically everything except rock but classical and country/folk make up at least 75% of my collection. We love sound, the cleaner the better. Thanks Spider
  5. Thanks for the above--I was afraid about the quality. I am not a techie but this will be (when and if I do it) a long or one time purchase. At my age and wearing hearing aids, I don't need top of the line but certainly reliability is primary! Would like to hear more suggestions--what a bout Cary 300SEI? Again many thanks for ur interest. I do so love the sound! Phil
  6. Hi all, In addition to the thrill of hearing and enjoying my 1978 era LS, I just brought home a Sofia integrated amp which sounds to my old ears as a whole new sonic world. However I don't know the first thing about this subject and would appreciate a few recomendations. I prefer to buy new from a manufacturer who has a history of good support and reliability. The Sofia is on loan from a local high end retailer. I just couldn't believe what was coming out of those La Scalas when I played even my early 1980 CDs. Your comments will be appreciated. TIA. Phil
  7. Hi, I have just bought some used La Scala's and also have a pair of Heresy I"s. I live near Clearwater,FL and would be willing to share the sound with anyone looking into purchasing. Mine are NOT for sale. Also, would appreciate a critique of my setup. Let me know if this is of any interest.
  8. Thanks to all who helped me. The label on the back: Type:LS-BR Serial: 155315 Can anyone help identify? Thanks again .
  9. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all. I auditioned the LS yesterday and bought 'em! When we got them home to our 12'x 15 x 8' LR, we were thrilled. Played music for 8 hours. The voume control had to be reduced although later we found that we did increase it somewhat. It was a glorious experience--country, opera, jazz, choral, symphony--it was all great. Then, to my huge surprise, I played a Tape I made 15 years ago or so. Too my amazement, it was terrific (Belefonte at Carnegie). I had to use the bass equalizer for this. Serial # 122312, J2 Br.What year? Thanks again everyone. Spider
  10. Hi all, Thanks for all the suggestions and insights. Since the original posting, I also followed up on a pair of Cornwalls mentioned a few days BUT I know nothing about any of the Klipsch speakers and as you all know, it is difficult to audition these "treasures". Any further comments re the characteristics of the Cornwalls would be appreciated (compared to the Heresys and La Scalas). Again, many thanks.
  11. Hi all, I am going to look at some LaScalas which were used for a band (not rock). How do I evaluate? I didn't know there was an industrial model made. Any shortcomings in sound ompared to my '84 Heresys? Would I be better off with one of the other Klipsch? I play classical and country. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi, I can't figure out how to reply in private, but thanks and I will research your suggestion. Best regards. Phil
  13. I thank everyone for their interest and suggestions. They have been very stimulating and helpful. Phil
  14. I do not have room for K-horns. With all the helpful suggestions plus the fact that I just found a local dealer who can get the heritage series and who suggests Rotel hardware, I am going to investigate this further. Obviously I have decided to increase my budget!
