  1. hey guys nice to get such a varied response.... i have been busy with other things so i havent had time to do much , but i have moved them around the room a bit and that has helped a little. i agree with the philosophy that klipsch speakers are not the be all end all, but i am also aware that a speaker as sensative as the cornwall can be very revealing of flaws elsewhere in the system. for the record my other speakers are good quality but not as sensative, they are also a two way speaker which could account for my sound preference. im sure my c d player is part of the problem and at some point i will retire the yammie to ht only use but for now thats what im using. spl guages and test cds sound a little complex to me, i just want it to sound good... as far as getting a look at the xover the back of my corns doesnt look removable so should i be pulling ot a speaker to get in there and look, also where will i find serial numbers as the factory tags an the back are gone thanx b
  2. ok well, yes i do have a ramair455, as far as serial numbers im not sure where to look but the factory stickers on the back have been removed, also im interested in this rope caulk thing, can someone walk me through how you do it.it doesnt look like the back of my cornwalls is removable so im guessing that if im doing anything inside ill need to go through the front.all this advice is great, thanks guys. i love the speakers and agree that they are very revealing, im just trying to get this midrange under control... i was listening at high volume again tonite and could actually feel that midrange in my inner ear...like a ringing, almost concert like, somethin aint rite. b
  3. hmmmm not sure what you mean buy polarity...if your asking if the positive and negative wires are hooked up correctly im certain thet they are. as far as tube vs solid state goes im aware of the difference that will make but i beleive that cornwalls were sold , at least in 1984 , for the most part to be used with solid state gear. perhaps both my recievers are not a great match for these speakers, still it seems odd to me that they could sound so well with my other speakers...so back to my crossover question.
  4. hey guys i have tried a different reciever with little difference. i have a yamaha rxv793... 80 wpc, 1998 vintage, i also have a late 70,s luxman r 1050 60 wpc i believe, my cd player is a likely culprit as it is about a 1988 technics.... my room is also a potential problem as i have hardwood floors but my other two pairs of speakers sound fine in that room and the thing is that the imaging is good and the bass response is good though a little boomy its just that the midrange is way too strong... if i partially cover the midrange horn to me they sound much nicer.... help !!
  5. hey i have had my cornwalls for a month or so now and am really struggling with the overwhelming midrange the horns are producing. im aware that the room they are in is smaller than is ideal, and also that my cd player and reciever are not a perfect match for the cornwalls, someone on another forum mentioned that the crossovers have different soldering points and that i may be able to change the way they are hooked up and put a capacitor in and lower the midrange output by 2 - 3 db... this sounds like a mod i would like to try because short of the overwhelming mid i love my cornwalls, but at this point my ears are fatiguing after just ten or so minutes at higher volumes, any help on this is appreciated thanks b
  6. simple fix what is an hk 430... i looked on ebay but found no listings, im also wondering if my cd player could be a culprit...the sound just seems to in your face, especially with the midrange, i wonder are there any adjustable crossovers for the cornwalls, like a cerwin vega d9 has externally adjustable high frequency dials'
  7. hey well, i got the tweeters fixed and have had several hours to listen, having such an efficient speaker makes a really huge difference, i am however dissapointed with the sound and maybe someone here can shed some light on this for me. im finding that the midrange is overwhelming and im only able to listen at higher volumes for short periods of time, like 10 minutes or so before my ears get fatigued. some tracks sound better than others but overall, way too much mid range, partially covering the horn seemed to help so im wondering if what i have here is a crossover problem or a room problem or if i have just spent to many years listening to commercial hi fi two way speakers. perhaps ther is a way to tame some of that midrange, or maybe i need to work on room tratment. by the way im using them for music only, no HT. thanx b
  8. i heard somewher that cornwalls are best placed in corners of a room and the farther apart the better, any truth to that?? currently my listening room is 18.5 feet by 12 feet and i have my cw's in the corners of the long wall angled towards the centre... is this less than ideal?? if my questions seem silly, im new so go easy on me...i have been looking for cw's for a long time and just got my first pair a few weeks ago, tweeters were shot so i havent really had much time to listen yet, but they are fixed now and im picking them up tomorrow... cant wait. b
  9. thats kinda what i was thinkin... i didnt mention that i have hardwood floors and i dont know if that would change any advice...also would you recommend spiking the speaker or the stands...or is this useless if the speaker is not directly on the ground if my questions sound silly...im a new audiophile still learning and this is my first pair of klipsch... been looking for cornwalls for a while so i cant wait till there fixed and playable again thanks b
  10. hey, i actually just posted a thread on stands for cornwalls, but was also thinking of spiking mine...what do you guys mean when you mention risers on cornwalls...i feel like im missing something here. i have hardwood over a crawlspace so im not sure how well spikes will work thanx b
  11. thats 5 or 6 inches... just trying to get them into a better position for listening.... im tall
  12. hey i just recently aquired a pair of cornwall ll's i was thrilled to get them but when i got them home and hooked em up.... no sound out of the tweeters.. so i pulled them out and took them to my local speaker repair place.. they have been there for two weeks and they tell me they still do not have the required 'diaphrams' they need, im gettin a little frustrated and wonder if anyone here can help/ also any good mods for these speakers i should know about... im new and this is my first pair of klipsch speakers, but ive been a longtime fan thanks b
  13. anybody have any suggestions on stands for cornwalls, i would like mine to be about 5 6 inches taller than they are,, any suggestion for a DIY stand?? i have access to a welder so i could build something out of metal or wood. thanx b
