  1. I've found Russound, Niles, and Audioplex. They all carry an outdoor volume for about $100. Are these good companies? ive heard of the first 2 Mounting next to a hot tub (spa). Honestly is this a no no. There has to be people out there that have done this. My common sense tells me that if there is a short in the tub you will be a cooked goose no matter if you touch the volume or the door on the gazebo or whatever the case. Maybe the concern was with stray voltage getting into the speaker wire. If this was the concern, wouldn't this be a very small chance of happening and if it ever did wouldn't it be audible or even blow out your speakers? Thanks for the comments
  2. Looking for a sealed volume control for use next to my hot tub. Havn't got the speakers yet but will be about $300 -$400 /pr. thanks, Gib
  3. Thanks Dr Who and Deon. I didn't know whether to get into the soffit (flush wall mounting) thing in this sub forum, but I am interested to hear any other experiences with it. On planning my install I had only two things in mind 1. Child Proof 2. Sleek Look. I just figured the 3 front ported RB75's and RW12 would give my idea brilliant sound. After reading this article from genelec http://www.genelec.com/support/soffit.php I was freaked out and excited both. Half spaces and Spherical radiation it changes the loading of the drivers. Diffractions are eliminated. Many pro's and con's to it. It's all new to me. My question is what frequencies should I be concerned about equalizing? I understand there is a bass boost, is that because of the half space, wall as a baffold. gib
  4. right rear RB25 and rear center RC35 and some poster lights
  5. My yamaha rxv1400 reciever has in the menu some low freq test tones. I don't remember the exact freq's but approximately: 35Hz, 50, 65, 75, 88, 100, 115Hz and up to 250Hz. The sound can be sent to any of the 7.1 speakers, 6.1 in my case. The book says to use this for volume comparison between sub and speakers and "checking for low freq characteristics for your listening room." Would this also be a tool to use for phase? Is there calibration discs for audio like there is for high def video like the avia dvd disc. I don't own one yet but maybe avia has audio on it. gib
  6. Thanks michael. I'll try that. It sounds simple. Make it loud, that is what Klipsch is all about right! Any recomendation for a heavy bass song, like the techno dance music stuff with a thump, thump, thump.. .. .. gib
  7. My black tape on the wall vision, months ago.... White walls sure help out this camera, but wouldn't do much for contrast on my ten foot diagonal projection screen. I'll try the back of the room tomorrow with some sunlight on it. It is also quite appealing. gib
  8. So you are saying to sit in the hot seat and have someone turn the phase from 0 to 180 until it gets the loudest at your prime listening position? If that is correct then I don't even need the mains on to do this right? Adam
  9. Thanks you guys for your help. I think I will live with my sub placement for now. With some tweaking on the phase controls and maybe some acoustic room treatments it should be good enough until I get the itch to upgrade in a few years. The reason for the in-wall mounting is a 4 yr old and 1 yr old twins running around here. You may also like the look. I will build my 4th and final custom speaker grill to cover it. Here is one close up pic. More to come. sorry about the low resolution cam. Anyone know where I could find detailed info on how to get my sub phase tuned in? Curious what that is in the upper part of the picture. Adam
  10. I've been busy moving my sub all around the room and you're absolutely right about placement. I hear huge differences in volume as I walk around the room. I find most annoying 2 bands of high volume sound shooting off to the sides of the sub. Seems like the bass likes to go down my hallway towards the bedrooms. Most of the seating is in a medium to med-low level. I can't say one place I put it was any better than the other. Maybe with this size of room 27 feet wide looking at the mains by 21 feet deep with a 7 ft 10 inch cieling I need 2 subs to get rid of the dead spaces. What do you think? After a couple hours of heavy use the RW12 only felt slightly warm to me, I don't know what kind of amp is in it. Question #2 does the phase control change the direction of these sound waves or is it more of a timing thing with the bass on your mains and thats what it should be set on?
  11. Thanks for the reply, As of right now it is kind of floating in there. I put the small rubber pads from my RB75's under the legs. I would say right, left and top of the sub has about 3/8 of an inch around it, About enough to turn my volume with a pencil eraser and a flash light. The rear has about 4 inches clearance for wiring. All of it could easily be foamed or filled in. Is this floating sub correct or should it be firmly anchored to the floor. The bottom of the box is about 3.5 inches off of the floor if this makes any difference. Thank you for any help here.
  12. Does anyone have any knowledge on placement of a sub flush with the wall. I have not seen or heard of it. The RW12 is front ported and single front firing driver so I would assume the energy would all go forward out. Or is the cabinet itself part of the thump??? I built a box for mine out of 3/4" oak plywood and sunk it through my front wall and into a huge bedroom closet. I liked the sound the sub made on the floor directly in front of where it sits now. I now have turned the sub up from about 1/3 volume to almost 1/2 and bumping up the sub dB on my reciever by about +5. The only other factor that changed is that now there is a RAM electronics 50 ft sub cable, vs the 10 foot $10 dollar one I had before. Is my idea acoustically correct or did I make a big mistake and get my rear chewed out by my wife by making a big hole in the wall?
  13. Oops, Frank Speaker, Did you contact Yahama about using 4 of you 7 amps on your two mains. I have the RXV 1400 and would try it but I don't know what the room optimizer mic, (YPAO) would think of it.???
