  1. Looks nice. Coming along great! I just have to ask, with such nice

speakers and other gear, why "just" a ksw12? Im not knocking on it at

all, I would just think you'd want something a little more potent or

with more depth. Or do you have a different sub that Im not aware of...

    just wondering... scp53

  2. Thanks for the pics, GREAT looking sub!

So that must be tuned to 30-35hz? Must be quite decent if your mixing music with it (I take it thats what the mixing board, computer, etc is for...?).

Do you know how it compares to Klipsch multimedia subs or any others subs? (but not your rsw15, as thats a WHOLE different class im sure...)

  3. Some people will just never learn.

Actually, today I had a "blose experience". A friend of mine said "at work, we don't have a radio. We have a really nice CD player hooked up to really nice bose speakers..." . Im like "yea" ,"ok". Sometimes you just have to agree with people.

BTW LOL, i looked at that "Placement Suggestion for Cubed Speakers".

  4. I ditto about the PE amps. I have two and both are very well built for the money. They both have a slight hum in them but its not that bad. Definetly can't hear it unless I walk up and put my head up to one of the subs. I would guess of all the plate amps PE sells, the BASH ones are the quietest ones. I think the s/n ratio is very good on them. scp53

  5. Dude, screw monster crap, go get a decent Dayton cable from www.partsexpress.com. MUCH better cables for the money imo. With monster, all your getting is a name, simple as that.

    I have this one- http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=181-642

they also have a 25ft version of that one- http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=181-644

I have ZERO problems with it and think its very well built for the money and never have shielding problems. Or, if don't like these, www.bluejeancables.com, http://www.mcminone.com, or http://www.cablestogo.com have some decent offerings I think. Oh, and so does radioshack- http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049640&cp=2032058.2032228.2032250. I think it used to be called "gold series" or something. Thats a cheap nice 12ft cable.

So, the bottom line is DONT get monster if you DONT want to pay for a name. scp53

  6. I don't quite get it? What makes this 6 12in woofers sub so special? Is that 120 db/25hz AT 2 meters corner loaded? Must be... Well, figure its roughly 126 dB at 1 meter then. Must be special aka BEST BIGGEST because its ALL in ONE box.

The Klipsch THX Ulta subs (2 of them) would do give or take 125-126 dB at that frequency 1m 1/8 space(aka c loaded). If you had 6 Ultra subs in ONE box with a monster port/or radiator(and some good power), I dont see why this sub for 10g's is so great. Hell, screw putting ultras all in one box. Buy 4-6 Klipsch ultras and stack them. Would be easier to carry and would be cheaper all while obtain the same result Im sure.

Or am I missing something and this BIG sub has all its potential down really low where subs like the ultras would suffer more?

I dunno. THis is just some thoughts. Take it with a "grain of salt" as I just COPIED specs from the sites.

  7. Thanks for the reply DrWho. No, my receiver has NO preouts.

The ONLY way to get a line level signal without converting it from speaker level is to use the 5.1 out on my DVD player. My DVD player has 6 rca outputs with adjustments for size of speakers, distance of speakers, and dB level of the speakers/sub. Currently the DVD player is connected to the receiver with optical.

So the huge drawback from using the 5.1 outs on the DVD player is that volumes would need to be adjusted seperately.

BTW, I do tape in/out so could I use that some way?

    Thanks again, scp53

  8. Ok, Im not sure if this is the right place to ask(I just posted this same thing in the Ifi part of the forum) this but here it goes.

I have a yamaha rx v420(5.1), rb25s,sb3s, dayton titanic mk3 10 sub, atlas 15 sub. Now, I want to add a center channel to all this. HOWEVER, I dont want to spend big dollars. Sooo, Im thinking of using one of the rb25s as a center, then taking the LR speaker level outs and running it into a converter, and then run that into the ifis. Because they are in the same series I think the rb25 would match ok. The mains(ifis) would be set to LARGE as they have a sub on them, and the center would be set as small.

And as for the rears, that would be done by my sb3s set to small. The sub duty would be done by my two subs. What do you guys/girls think about that? My MAIN REASON why Im thinking of going this way is 1) i can get the ifi's refurbed for 220ish with tax/shipping, and 2) I can use them for the computer, games, portable movies, etc.

I also think if i dont like them as mains, I could use them as rears in the same way. Just put the speaker level to line level converter in ther and Im done.

The only problem I see with using one of these converters, http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=265-026 , is over powering it. I would have to turn up the channels on the receiver resulting in turning down the master and then turning up the vol. on the ifis. ONLY if I bought a real nice converter, http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=302-307 , would I not have to worry about over driving it,etc. So that would be around 285 for all that shipped. To me that would be getting high, so the more simple and much cheaper converter is what I want to use.

Ok, sorry for the long post. Let me know comments, suggestions, etc on my idea. and, OF COURSE, this is NOT ideal. So dont talk to me about that. I just want to know if it will work pretty well. Thanks, scp53

  10. i would say that the SVS rules in all ways. build quality, sq, depth, spl, etc. the ONLY thing about the athena that MIGHT is on music. I m guessing that the athena is tuned higher and may be punchier on music. thats just a hunch. just make sure that you have a decent receiver to control the x over for the sub as the svs has none(thats if you get the svs). scp53

  11. CECAA850, i concur with what you said.

klipschster23, if you give that sub an honest listen when its well setup, i think you'll be blown away. Im not sure if your aware of this, but the room and the placment of speakers/sub(s) in the room DRASTICALLY affect how they sound. The best subs in the world will sound like crap if not setup and placed properly. period. i have two higher end subs my self and both sound like garbage when not setup properly. my recommendation is to buy that sub 12 and test it at home, after all BB is good about letting you return products.

  12. I ditto what the above poster said. Nothing in that price range will suffice.

I built a DIY atlas 15 with a 500watt amp in a 24in cube tuned to 20hz for $500 or so after shipping. It'll hit 115 dB in large rooms at listening position. Actually, I just watched WOTW, filled up the room really well. We had to move some stuff off shelfs as we were knocking it off. Im actually considering selling it. My friend might buy it but if he doesnt, I'd sell it to you if you interested. I just need something physically smaller. its just too big. scp53

  13. I cant find the T/S parameters for the

Ascendant Audio Avalanche 18'. It isnt in the T/S database as far

as I saw, and I cant seem to find them elsewhere. Anyone know

    where I can find them?

    http://www.ascendantaudio.com/archive/Avalanche%2018.htm

The specs are still on the old site they had. Since Chad and everyone

else at Ascendant are so busy with their new sub and mid drivers, I

don't think much time gets devoted to the web page.

To get to the old site which has all the old products click on "old

site... click here" button. Here is a direct link to the 18in Ava

however to save you some time. As far as quality, yes Ascendant Audio

makes VERY high quality products. I personally have an atlas 15 and its

very nice. I can't recall exactly but I believe those 4 18's in IB

would get usable spl down to 10-12hz. Thats insane. scp53
