  1. How can I find out what my old Kenwood amp and tuner are worth (approximately)? Is there a Web site that can give me an estimate? Thanks.
  2. No. I really want the convenience of a remote. The Kenwood can't communicate with one.
  3. Thanks, but I've decided on an amplifier ONLY. Does anyone know of one, that used with a remote, will allow me to control a tv, dvd/cd, turntable and two sets of speakers in different rooms? Please remember the idea here is; clean, powerful, spatial stereo sound for lp's and cd's.
  4. Hi Colin, You said, "still think vintage s-s HK is the best, even the little 330s, but you can use the TV for the center channel, I do, works great!" I like your idea of the TV center channel! Can the center channel be turned off if playing music, is it better left on or do I have the choice? Based on what I want, can you name a specific amp with very low THD, some bass control and plenty of power for a pair of Cornwalls? Thanks.
  5. Sorry I was so long in posting back. I've been out talking to shops-salespeople and technicians. After a lot of these discussions, I want to trade/exchange the Kenwood KA-6000 Amp & KT-7000 Tuner for an amplifer OR receiver that would allow a remote control unit that I could control two sets of speakers (in different rooms), a Pioneer DV-C505dvd/cd player, a turntable and a Sansung 32" stereo tv from. I just ordered an RCA D940 Remote Control Signal Sender that (I think) will allow me the flexibility to do that. My preference is an amplifier only since no one here listens to am/fm anymore. The Kenwood components are so old that a remote won't function on them and that, and a 10 year old granddaughter, are the reasons I need to trade/exchange them for something that will. After listening to all the various people I mentioned, I still remain committed to stereo but would like to hear comments about adding a center channel for television. My primary interest is still in listening to clean, pure and loud classical and jazz music. The center channel would be to hear dialogue from movies, primarily for the grandchildren. Thanks again.
  6. Somebodys gotta HELP! I have been shopping all day, reading the various online reviews and am more confused than ever. Seems just like 38-40 years ago...and I'm tired. Here are the choices I am down to: 1. Denon DRA 685 $265 2. harman/kardon HK 3480 $294 3. Yamaha RX 777 $443 4. Yamaha RX 596 $350 Please, please give me your thoughts as to the best value for someone with Cornwalls, a 2nd pair of speakers I can't remember the name of now, Pioneer (new) dvd/cd plsyer and a turntable. Fellas, I gotta get a remote or a divorce and, trust me here, a remote is much less expensive! (Thanks.)
  7. Do you think a Harman Kardon HK3480 would be a reasonable choice then, better that either the Denon DRA 685 or the Yamaha RX 777?
  8. I want to spend $300 to 700 and would prefer new. The Denon and Yamaha look pretty good to me.
  9. Sorry for not posting the room dimensions. The room is 15' by 20' with 10' ceilings that vault to about 12 to 15'. I primarily listen to classical, jazz and old pop (Sinatra) or ballad music. I can't believe all the help people are freely giving here. Thanks!
  10. I bought a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls in 1965 along with a Kenwood KA 6000 amp and KT 7000 tuner. Once I purchased this system I was happy and lost touch with the hi-fi/stereo world. I just bought a Pioneer DV-C505 dvd/cd player and now need to buy a new (stereo) receiver to match the Cornwalls. Can someone recommend a stereo receiver that is a good match for the Cornwalls in the $300 to 700 range? I am not rich but need a receiver to drive the Cornwalls and another pair of speakers in a secondary room. Two receivers I have looked at are the Yamaha RX 777 and the Denon DRA 685. Both seem acceptable, but is one a better match for the Cornwalls, or is there something else I should look at? Thanks for any guidance.
