  1. I am not the seller, but these are also on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5743526660&rd=1 They are in N. Florida, and no shipping is available.
  2. Since I replaced my original Heresy x-over with an ALK design, I no longer need the old one's. I would rather find a new hiome for them here before posting on ebay. They are the original E-type.
  3. If you are in the San Marcos, TX area these might just be the ticket for you. They are in black. I am not the seller, nor do I know them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50597&item=5742988001&rd=1
  4. I did not use Acoustistuff, but I do have about 6 oz. of wool in each of the cabs. I had it from another project and I figured it wouldent hurn anything. I believe that it helped the bass to be more articulate, but it could be a proud daddy seeing his son do well.
  5. No, Al did not build them, but he did desing them. As such he deserves the praise for the great job that he did on them. I built them from his posted design on the ALK web site. So when I say thank you AL, it is for the work he has done, and the fact that he was willing to share it with all of us. As for the midrange, it is very much in balance with the highs. As we all know, the bass is not that extended on the Herey, so what I did as use a Marchand XM9 xover set at 80Hz. The Heresy's, as well as my hot rod ST-70 really like this, and I use SS on the sub, where it can do what it does best.
  6. Colorful isn't it! I used what my son didn't for an art project he was doing. I had a new block of black, but I figured he could use that for a project that other people will see. The ALK's are the piece that I had been missing for a long time. It is a pleasure to sit back and listen, and NOT analyze.
  7. sorry about the last picture. The camera broke at this point. Sure do like those extended warranties when I but them! Just so happens I did with the camera.
  8. I have solved the harshness issue. It was a 3 pronged solution. First, I installed tube dampers on all the tubes in the pre and the amp. If you have not done this, DO IT. It makes a great deal of difference in my system. I bought the silicone o-rings from McMaster Carr. Second, I re-routed my cables. I was getting some 60 Hz from the power cords because of how the cables were routed. And last, I shielded the cables from my pre to my amp. This had a small inpact on the sound, but it was an improvment anyway.
  9. Final view. This shows the ALK in all its glory. Al, you did a GREAT JOB on this xover. My friends that have heard it say this is the best sounding Klipsch they have ever heard.
  10. This shows the damping very clearly.
  11. This is a view of the interior as well as the back showing the 1x3 brace and the deflex pads.
  12. I was asked to post the mods I did to my Heresy's. This is a view of the interior showing the ALK as well as the damping of the horns and woofer frame, as well as the Deflex pads on the walls.
  13. You win the prize! I forgot that I moved a few things and did not have my DAC in the food chain. Now that my old Cal Audio is in place everything has come back into focus.
  14. After listening to my ALK'd Heresys for a few weeks now, I continue to be impressed with the greater detail that I now have. But I do have an issue that some of you might be able to help with. When listening to female vocals, in particular, there is a nasty breakup that occures at the higher range of their voices. This is particularly obvious when listening to someone like Jane Monheit, who has a great voice, but also a powerful one. It's almost as though the driver is being overdriven. I do not listen a LOUD levels, 90 DB is about it for me. If I turn up the volume it is more obvious, but nothing changes. Has anyone dealt with this after the ALK changeout? I am thinking about using the P-Trap to try a filter it, but there may be a better way of dealing with this. Thanks to all
  15. I have no connection with this item, but I know there are some who would like this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5734162376&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  16. The APT:50 looks to be a fine tweeter. It appears, from the plot on the website, that it has begun to roll off at 17k or so. I was looking to extend out much higher than that. I can't hear that high, but studies have shown that we do react to these highs none the less. As for the PSD 2002, it may be better than the T35, but the frequency response is not that great either. Besides, it has about the same rolloff at 15k as the T35 does. The Fostex is about 98.5 dB at 1 watt, but it extends out to 50k or so. The only other tweeter that I have seen go higher is the diamond tweeter from Accuton. At 98 dB, I could use this in a Heresy or a Cornwall and not have to pad much at all; 21/2 or 3 dB for the Heresy and .5 or 1 dB for the Cornwall. It looks like it could replace the T-35 outright, but I will use it to extend the top end only. Thanks for the information on Eminence driver. I had not looked at them at all before you both mentioned them.
  17. Focal is out of the "consumer/DIY" business, although Zalytron seems to have a good stock right now. The only choices that are efficient enough are much more than the Fostex. Remember that the Klipsch tweeters are not THAT good. At least not the T35. As for the ribbons, I like them very much, but I have doubts as to integrating them with the horns. The Fountec is priced well, but still substantialy more than the Fostex. I think for a trial the Fostex would be a good choice. I find that Motorola Piezo tweets too dry for my taste, and stuff like the muRata just WAY too costly to justify for this particular application. Then there is Tannoy, but at that point I should just but a pair of used K Horns. Thanks for the observation. If I sound like I ranting, I'm really not. I have had the Raven in one of my speakers and loved it. It was mated with Focal mid-woofers. Very detailed, but not that musical. I have been enjoying my "gift" Heresys for about a year now. They were free, given to me by a friend that was moving. I have done the ALK upgrade and find this to be a dramatic change for the good. There is still the "nasties" about 9k, but it is way down in amplitude. I may ptrap it just to try. At this point I'm almost there. I just want to add some sparkle to the top end, but keep it cost effective. The Beyma "baby-butt" tweeters might be the next step, but I don't have as much issue with the tweeter to replace, just help. Thanks again.
  18. Thanks. It looks like Madisound will be getting some business.
  19. This would be an add-on. Although this tweeter could replace the existing one if need be, but I am only looking to extend the top a bit. The T-35 runs out of gas pretty early. My hearing isn't what it was, but the sparkle is nice when the extension of highs is there.
  20. Now that my ALK'd Heresy's are sounding great, I was looking at extending the top end a bit. Looking at the Madisound catalog I see that Fostex has a tweeter that is 98.5 Db and extends to 50k. All this for $35.65. The question is, has anyone used or heard the tweet? At this price I may just try it, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks
  21. I have done the ALK xover on my Heresys. The difference is amazing! The mids and highs are both more defined and less harsh. I used Solen for the lows and both North Creek Harmony and Sonic Cap for the mids and highs. I think that caps are a VERY subjective item, and I can only use my experience when recommending them. I have used Auric, Hovland, North Creek, Sonic, Bennic, and a few others. They are all good, some better suited to one task or another. The Bennic is fine in the right application, but it should not be in the signal path (YMMV). I highly recommend the ALK crossover for a Heresy upgrade! Have fun!
  22. Thanks for the info Bob. I'm thinking about building a "shortwall". WAF is part of the reason.
