  1. well i finally got around to taking some pictures of my recent heresy
purchase.i have a question concerning the stands.does anyone know if
these were a aftermarket stand designed for the heresy or if they were
made by klipsch.i bought the speakers and they came with these stands.i
also received the original bill of sale which lists them as ss-5 if
that helps.heres a picture of the speakers plus stand.any help wpould be appreciated.

  2. bob your right.i have a pr of oriniginal eliminator1 and those piezos on top dont belong.the originals used (2) t35, a 8hd horn with a t25a driver and a 15w driver.the midrange on the above pictured is definately not mounted correctly. theres a bracket that goes through the driver (t25) and mounts to the inside of the cabinet.un fortunately i lost the pics of mine or id show you what theyre suppose to look like . fwiw the speakers could be bought as kits and the plans occasionaly show up on ebay.also they only go down to 45 hertz ao they dont go as low as one would suspect.

  3. just thought of something i want to ad to this post which seems interesting to me. didnt pwk use a brook amplfier with 2a3's?if so i would be interesting to note that fairchild commisioned brook to build a 2a3 amp for him modeled after the 10c.perhaps this was after listening to pwk's speakers.just a thought.anyone have any ideas on this?

  4. that amp would of been the 255a and rated at 30w.the 255 which preceeded it was rated at 25w and used 6l6 output tubes.i have yet to come across a pr of 255's although they seem to pop upon ebay more than the 260's or 275's.i did have a single 275 which i regret selling now but at the time i needed some money for a mx110 to go with my mc30's.the 260 which also used 6l6gc's for output tubes was later on modded to use el34s and branded the 260r(revised) this was a factory mod that i never heard about until i saw it posted on a recent ebay auction.i may try this mod one day as i have a pr of nice gec kt77's that iv'e been waiting to use but i've only got the one pair and to find another set is going to be costly.until then i guess i stick to the sweltana winged emblems that im using now.

    thanks again for the comments.regards,

  5. hi gill,

thank you so much for posting this.i'm always on the hunt for any information on fairchild i can get.the net even though as big as it is sure doesnt have much information on the company or its gear.

    larry,

you are correct that the fairchild amps and preamps are rare.i've had my 260's for about 3 yrs now and recently aqquired the stereo preamp to go with them.i've been using them off and on with a pair of heresys and must say that i like the combination alot.i would like to one day try them with some k'horns but those never show up in my neck of the woods.i do however have a set of altec 19's coming my way shortly and will be very excited to try them out with the fairchild amps. fwiw heres a review on the fairchild 260 that was posted soemtime back by craig .http://http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/503845.aspx

the rest of the review is on the second page. i will also post a review on the fairchild 245/248 stereo preamp shortly for those that are interested.

    architel,

do you still have a copy of that article that you posted the pic from on 2-19-04?if so i would appreciate a scan of it if thats possible.

  6. I have the power (you could say) of picking this up for 40 dollars. Is it worth more than that? I guess i just want to make a profit...

thats about the going rate for that tuner so turning a profit is highly unlikely.fwiw i saw that ad and thought the price was $45.

  7. i hope its ok to post this here and if not the moderator can delete the thread.

i have up for sale a grason stadler 162k amplifier.the 162k was built by mcintosh for grason stadler under contract to be used with their hearing test equiptment back in the 60's.heres some info and for the most part all the info i found on the net" The Grason-Stadler 162K is a specially modified McIntosh MC-40 amplifier that was designed to be used as a studio monitor in conjunction with the Grason-Stadler 162 "Speech Audiometer" speech and hearing analyzer. Electronically the Grason-Stadler amplifier is the same as the McIntosh amplifier with the addition of a VU meter connection, VU meter adjustment control, and an attenuater circuit between the input and first 12AX7 preamplifier tube.

this amp would be a great item to have for those that collect rare mcintosh gear or anyone who wishes even to use it and convert it back to a straight mc40 which is easily done.i have taken some pics and more are available upon request if you want.the amp has as few scrapes here and there but overall its in very good condition especially the chrome.the amp is fully functional and although no tubes are shown in the pictures it'll come with some swetlana winged emblem 6l6gc's and the small signal tubes.any questions can be sent to me by private message or email.thanks for looking.

    hi dana,

the first amp is a biggs of california(or a george gott g50d)made sometime during the late 1950's.they used dynaco iron throughout and were good for 50w.

as for the other amps i came up empty as to the mfg but i can tell you that the partridge transformers are quite sought after and usally bring a good buck on ebay.hope this info helps and if i can find out anything else i'll report back.

  10. I wish you lived closer to me. I would just about give you a Hallicrafters SX-62 I have. It needs a lot of work. I don't know if it would be worth the trouble or not. There's more metal in it than there is in my daughter's car. I think it weighs more too.

    Bruce

    hi bruce,

i use to have a sx62a which was the later version.im not quite sure of the differences right now but if i remember it had something to do with the audio taps on the transformers.the sx62 was my very first receiver and i regret ever selling it.although not the most selective or sensitive receiver it's fidelity was amazing with its push pull output stage.i also liked that big dial and how only the band you were using lit up.eventually i'd like to get another one and have seen many up for sale but shipping costs have always scared me.

as far as your sx62 goes i dont know what kind of condition it's in or the operational state of it is but it probally would be worth fixing up.if you want shoot me a pm with the details and mabe we can work something out.thanks for the offer.regards,

  11. i myself have a couple other hobbies besides collecting vintage audio gear and one of them is collecting old tube type communication receivers and listening to shortwave radio.i also just recently bought a nikon d50 dslr and hope to get into photograpy.theres so much to learn in that hobby that it'll take me awhile to learn but thats half the fun.
