  1. Will do, sir. Started snowing yesterday, so I doubt they wil dig a hole to start building anytime soon Thanks!
  2. Exciting times - we are closing on the lot for our new home this week. Hopefully, hole will be dug soon and building will start. Plan to do a theater/media room in the basement - it wont be dedicated with walls and such like a viewing room, but I am excited for it and starting planning/purchasing now I can document the build for those interested, its nothing super fancy, but would do it, if anyone cares! 1) It looks my rear surrounds will be atleast 30ft from where the receiver....Should I just do 10 AWG CL3 or stick with 12 AWG? I am thinking of just doing an Onkyo RZ class or Pioneer Elite receiver? No pre-amps and other such crazy things. Do you think I am going to have signal loss issues etc? 2) Will the RP's take banana plugs? Last time I did the in-wall wires - they were difficult to bend, terminate and such again due to the 12 AWG thickness. 3) Any speciic speak wire recommendations? I know CL2 and CL3 - Google says blue jeans cable in-wall is decent. Some recommend Monoprice. Would like to experts here to give this n00b advice! Thanks all!
  3. Thanks for the advice. I meant to say the 450C is all for the center, so I appreciate the catch there! Figured as much about the rear surrounds and atmos being on the ceiling! Interesting - 5.1.4 - I had not considered this and thought anything over 5.x - the rear surrounds are required. I guess if I place the seating to line up with the side surrounds which the speaker design allows from some play position wise - I may be able to pull off the 5.1.4. The basement has 9 ft cielings, with drywall etc, I am going to be a approx 8.5 ft anyway - so I planned to put the side surrounds at about 36 to 42" allowing for atmos in the cieling. I wouldnt mind doing rear floor standers but running wires is impossible on the plank vinyl floors we will have Thanks again for the advice. I wish I could draw up the room and show you all how its gonna go together, but I am terrible with a pen!
  4. Hello - In my basement, I plan to do a Klipsch HT theater setup - here are the speakers I have selected so far: Fronts - RP-280F Center - RP-450CA Sub - R-115SW Side surrounds - RP-250S X 2 Atmos Front and Atmos Rear - CDT-5800-C X 4 Rear surround - CDT-5800-C X 2 I plan on mounting the side surrounds just above ear level. My biggest concern is rear surround - Sadly, due to the room setup and the open layout (bar is at end of theater area), I cannot do rear speakers - aka no speakers on stands or floorstanding Also, there seems to be no pretty way to hang klipsch speakers - I haven't found any clean hanger setups to do a set of bookshelves off the ceiling in the back. And wife does not want the hanging speakers. But, I am afraid this is not a clean and optimal setup. From what I have read, rear surrounds are best at ear level. Else, the elevation of the rear surrounds could impact the effectiveness of the 4 atmos speakers in the ceiling. I looked at the wireless HD surrounds and they cost as much as my 4 atmos speakers, so I struggle with the cost aspect there. Also, kids may knock it down etc playing around. So, thoughts on what I should be doing? Am I OK with the rear surrounds in ceiling? Any other options. Now, I did consider speakers on the side walls but further back and angled in somehow at 45 degress or so firing into the sound stage. I don't know if that will work. Also don't know what I would use. FYI - I plan to run an Onkyo or Pioneer Elite receiver to power all the speakers and a projector and screen. Not that it changes anything! I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks much!
  5. Hello - We have a Quintet SL system with the 12" sub (basically 3 SL speakers and 2 quintet rears). I want to swap out the quintet rears with either some Synergy S-10 or S-20 or Icon VS-14's. Reciever is Onkyo TX-NR609 at 100x7. Is this advisable? will I run into sound quality issues or perhaps sound matching. The quintets stick out farther from the wall. They also after years of use start to droop and I have tightened the crap out of the allen bolts and they are pretty worn out. Anyways, thoughts appreciated! Thanks!
  6. Sounds like My R26 is fried as well, gang! I cannot get any reading on it with the multimeter while the R16 read 658..shouldnt it be 680? Is it going out as well? Any advise for me? Thanks!
  7. Well, see this image for R26. Its the one that looks like it has hersheys syrup on it
  8. Hello all - I am reviving this post. I have a similar problem with a set I just bought used!!!. It died on me and I unplugged power and let it sit. I plugged it back in and it started making real loud popping and hissing noises. Then, I saw the green light on the main satellite. A second later, it went dead. I took the amp apart. I checked the R12 according to the pic and it reads 658 when I set my mutlimeter to '200'. I am assuming it works. The fuse is not blown, but the mutlimeter test fails. I was told to turn off my multimeter and place leads across and that it would read 0 ohms. Well, that doesnt happen, so I am not sure. Any other resistors or caps I can check? I smell nothing or don't see any leaks. Please advise! Craftsman - where is the R26, I cannot find that thingey! *EDIT* Found R26 - That sucker is fried, I think. I cannot get any sort of reading from it at all. My multimeter sits at 1. I bet its causing the problem... Just so I know, I connect the green to the sound card right? what do I do with the purple jack connector? Thanks! KC Thanks!
