  1. I set up my Synergy F3's, and for surrounds im going to be using 2 old speakers off of my AIWA system until I can afford real surrounds. The speakers only hava an RCA coming from them, could i cut the end off, expose the wires and run it to my receiver that way? Thanks again! -Wes
  2. it is a dvd player - i think i need to find the remote to get it working correctly. I'll let you guys know!
  3. I'm going to plug my xbox in with component and see if it is an issue with the TV or the DVD.
  4. I have all 3 channels hooked up correctly, but I'm still getting a black and white picture. Does that mean that the other 2 cables could be switch and or the sockets not working? I've tried switching them, but to no avail. the Y's are w/ the Y's, the Pb's with the Pb's, the Pr's with the Pr's ... Anyone have a similar problem? -Wes
  5. It shows all 5.1 speakers on the display, although the 2 front speakers are lit up brighter than the others - what do you think that means??
  6. I got it working! I changed the digital output on my DVD player from PCM to bitstream! Thanks for your help everyone! I actually learned a lot from you guys, I'll be back if I have any more questions. Thanks again! -Wes
  7. Here is what Yamaha had to say: ------------------------------- During normal operation, the LFE/Bass out should be set to Both. When you look on the bottom right-hand corner of the display you will see certain speaker lights lit up, this indicates the signals that the source is sending into the AV receiver. These icons do not indicate what speakers should be getting sound. Please refer to the following examples. Examples: L & R: are lit-up, this means that the source is sending a 2-channel signal only into the AV receiver. L, C, R, RL, RR and LFE: are lit-up, this indicates that the source is sending a 5.1 Dolby Digital or 5.1 DTS signal. If you are watching DVD movie and are only seeing L & R lit, verify the following items: 1) Make sure that you are using a digital audio cable (either optical or digital coaxial) from the DVD player to the Yamaha. 2) Check the digital audio out settings on the DVD player menu to make sure that both Dolby Digital and DTS are turned on.
  8. Yeah, I read about the flags. I'm watching a DVD and supposedly the dvd player is sending 5.1 dolby. So I switched to my 5.1 dolby mode, still only shows the 2 front speakers. I'm still confused, although it sounds decent.
  9. Anyone have any more suggestions?
  10. I got excited when I went into my dvd player menu and changed it to 5.1 dolby ... but it still didnt change the speaker schematic on the diagram. The sub is hitting - I just want it to be setup right and tuned correctly to optimize the sound.
  11. I thought that too - but I am hooked up to a DVD player w/ digital coax and tried watching a movie in dolby 5.1 - still didnt work.
  12. Ok, I told the receiver that I had 6 speakers, during this all 6 lights turned on plus the subwoofer light. Then when I went back to listen all the lights except the 2 front L/R turned off. It is almost like it is outputting in 2ch. stereo. But that doesnt explain why it IS sending the sub a signal through RCA and that it doesnt change outputs in any DSP mode.
  13. I'm using monster bass cable to connect to the sub. I just dont get why it isnt workin correctly. It sounds good how it is right now, but I know it could sound better. I emailed Yamaha - maybe they know. Any yamaha reciever owners have a similar problem or have any knowledge to share?
  14. I understand what everyone is telling me - you guys are full of great advice! But the sub DOES work. It just seems to be getting the same signal as the floorstanding speakers. My receiver doesnt show that it is outputting to the sub, only the 2 front L/R speakers light up on the output diagram on the receiver display. Does that make sense?
