Greetings:
I would like to know if the Reference RF-25 speakers would be a good choice for a carpeted den approximately 12 by 14 feet. The receiver is a Harmon-Kardon HK3480. The room will be my office/reading room and will be used for music only.
My dilemma is that in my area all the authorized dealers of good quality loudspeakers appear to be custom install shops little concerned with selling speakers. Their primary focus is on custom installations (They aren't even open on Saturdays and close by 5 P.M. on weekdays). Best Buy does carry the Synergy line, however the listening room was very narrow and it was difficult to make an evaluation. The JBL speakers actually sounded much clearer, however the JBL speakers were located in a much larger listening room. Is the Reference series a material improvement over the Synergy series? Is the den I'm building large enough for the tower speakers or will the the sound be muddied? Also, do the RF-25's need a sub-woofer for music reproduction? Any insights would be appreciated.
