  1. Well, it looks like they were in fact damaged during shipping. I don't have a digital camera, so unfortunately I can't show you guys exactly what the cone looks like that I'm talking about. I was thrown off because both speakers are damaged the same way, yet there's no external damage. Looks like I gotta go through the whole RMA process now, hopefully the next pair get to me undamaged Thanks for the help!
  2. Edit: I bought 16 AWG black lampcord from Home Depot on the cheap, and I see no way to differentiate the conductors... Well, today I'm borrowing a friend's multimeter, and I'll verify my connections are correct to the speakers. As far as the magnet goes: Imagine watching the speaker cone play music, you'll see it move in and out at 0 degrees angle (straight at the listener). My cones are pointing up at about 45 degrees, indicating to me that the magnet attached inside the speaker is just hanging limp while the speaker plays. In fact, when I turn up the volume on my receiver, I'll hear the woofer try and work a little, but it just gives a clapping noise. Could there be an internal speaker connection to BOTH woofers that is broken? I'm no expert on the operation of speakers, so I don't know how it is all connected inside. I'm just concerned, because I bought online and I only have about a week left to RMA if either the receiver or speakers are broken. I think the final outcome will simply be that my polarities are crossed on the speakers. But I checked them and even swapped them a few times, and nothing fixed the problem. The only thing is, I think I did this before also fixing the setup in the receiver. I'm hoping there's no way that I could have killed the speakers just by swapping the polarities, I mean I didn't short anything together. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find, nothing worse than hearing a crazy story like this and not hearing the solution...God I hope it's the cabling, God I hope it's the cabling..... (ps: If it ends up being the cabling, I'll call the online store and ask to have my head RMA'd)
  3. Hey all, Just hooked up my new pair of SB-1 front speakers to my new receiver. I get no bass whatsoever from the fronts, looking at the bare cone shows no movement. When I look at the front-cone with the grille off, I can see that the magnet is hanging all the way down, ie, the cone isn't "sitting up straight" (hope I explained that right). I'm using unmarked lamp cord, so I thought maybe I hooked them up reversed, but I can't see how I would reverse both speakers? I also double-checked the polarities and they are correct. I've got a Yamaha 5740 receiver, and I've gone through the "no subwoofer" , "bass to fronts" selections. The speakers were purchased brand new in the box from Vanns, everything is legit. They came to me with no problems. Any ideas as to what my problem is here? I love the speakers (the highs are amazing), and I'd hate to have to return them. I'm an extreme newbie here too, this is the first time I've bought home audio. On receiver power-on, shouldn't I be seeing the woofer cones pop into place? I've gotta get some bass outta these, I've got a whole slew of good music waiting for em! Thanks in advance for your help!
  4. Hello everybody, this is my first Klipsch purchase, and I can't wait to hook this bad boy up. I'm missing something though. I got a great (I think) deal on the SB1 pair and SS.5 pair. I know the SC.5 is part of the original series, would I be okay getting the SC-1 or would this cause problems with the sound matching? Also, if I buy either of these through an auction site and the seller has the original receipt, does anyone know if I'm still protected under warranty? Thanks for your help!
