  1. In my TAD-60, I just replaced my quad of Mullard XF2 EL34's with reissued Gold Lion KT77's. (I got a matched quad on eBay for about $150 shipped.) Honestly, I have been an NOS vintage tube user for years. However, these new Gold Lions are blowing me away; they are crystal clear and balanced from top to bottom. I was also using GE 6550's, but in my amp I found them to be too dark.

  2. I just got my first DAC. (It has a tube-buffer and can also be used as a headphone amplifier.) I have the option to bypass the volume control and use it only as a DAC. However, I would like to stream music into it to my pre-amp. Are there any differences in the sound quality if I bypass the volume control and run it directly into my pre-amp, or should I just leave the volume control as-is?

  3. Let me clarify by also adding this. I am currently running my tubed line stage with a different solid state phono stage. That is how I am able to try the Stanton, Shure, and other cartridges. The custom-built phono stage is another phono stage that is tubed, while the other phono stage is solid state. The solid state phono stage is MM/MC compliant, while the tubed phono stage is LOMC compliant only. Has anyone ever tried or is currently using a Denon DL-103R with a Thorens TD-160 with its stock tonearm?
