  1. eq'ed? do they even have an eq in the amp? i thought it is a cross over's job to roll off to match the difference among the tweeter & woofer? i mean i would expect the mismatch between sub & sat, but i can always bump up little on sub even though it would be a perfect match. anyway, shoud i suggest my dad to buy a new set of equipment + ipod doc? can you recommend me what would be the best speaker among what i listed for classical music? i am also considering polk rti6 bookshelf speaker as it is cheaper than rb-61. btw, i couldn't find it, but i heard that sony ssx70ed is a copy cat of b&w 703 & priced about 350usd a pair...would it be a good speaker, too?
  2. btw, i found a pair of rf-10 is 200usd; this seems small enough, but would it be better with ifi over rb-61 or rsx-5? what about rb-10 which is 125usd for a pair?
  3. my dad wants to upgrade his ifi speakers (just sats) as he found that rsx 3 were not able to provide room filling sound stage & bit harsh. my 1st choice was polk audio r50 floor standing speaker from frys.com for 80usd shipped for each, but only one was delivered & it is discontinued so i am not sure whether i would be able to get 2nd set or not. besides, when i connected r50 to ifi, the treble was bit harsh & not natural, but it definitely improved sound stage & gave better mid-range. since i don't have a pair of r50 & don't want to pay more than 100usd shipped, i decided to go for klipsch again. rb-61 & rsx-5 are the ones i found to be inexpensive enough to justify the upgrade, but i am wondering whether rsx-5 would be a better choice over rb-61 as rsx-5 are even more expensive. your inputs will be greatly appreciated thank you
  4. did not know that; hwoever, i think rsx3 should be used with a subwoofer as it cannot go down very deep; if rsx3 would be driven by a receiver, then programmable high pass filter can be applied. it may be better to buy ifi (bass is not really boomy & adjustable) quintet3 mid-range is considerably worse than rsx3, and rsx5 seemed musch better
  5. i don't think klipsch make any rb-35/75 anymore; you might be able to find rb-35/75 from the dealers or from auctions; i would just go for rb-61/81 if i were you fyi, rb-61 is around 320usd & rb-81 is around 530usd
  6. although my ears are trained; when i compared rb-35 & 75, the treble was about same, but the mid rage was lacking on 35 compare to 75. this was bit surprising as 35 & 75 used same woofer in different cabin; 35 could not go as deep as 75, too. because bright (maybe too bright) treble is the signature of klipsch, so i would not worry about the treble quality. if 81 is smoother, it would sound better than 75 unless what you want is a very bright & forward sound. try rb-61 which is about the half the price of rb-81, but it is probably about same as 81 with slightly less dynamic & mid-range. i would recommend floor standing over 81 if you have enough space for floor standing speakers as they have better low to mid range sounds at about same price of 81
  7. i am willing to sell a like new pair of used silver rsx3 from iFi unit since i bought a pair of rb-61 to replace those two for my dad, so you can buy them. they have been used since march 2006 & stored in a smoke free house. email me if you are interested. i can take paypal (credit card welcome)/cashier's check; or if you prefer, you can buy them through either ebay or amazon.com; i am reputable seller ;-) shimman (at) netzero (dot) com
  8. thank you for sharing your thoughts @rlr267, is your price reference of a pair rf-82s including s/h? the only store that carried klipsch speakers closed a month ago, so local shopping is not possible unfortunately.
  9. my dad wants a new pair of speakers; last year i gave him ifi as a gift, and he loved it, but he wants something that has better mid-range & room filling sounds. (it will be used for hearing music rather than movies) i looked for a pair speakers, and i am not sure what to buy. i can get rb-35/61 around same price (350usd) & rb-81 for 550usd. while rf-10/15/52 are like 450 to 750usd. smooth sounds are what my dad is looking for, and i am not sure whether floor standing speakers are smoother than bookshelf speakers. are newer models better than old ones rb-35 vs rb-61 even though the newer model is using smaller woofer speaker? how about rb-81 vs rf-10/15/52? are they drivable by klipsch ifi amp? i am a newbie in audio world, so go easy on me thanks
  10. @jay481985, thank for your help i hope you enjoy your flagship speakers how about a pic or two when you get the speaker since you did not like the polk, i went to circuitcity to find out how polk r50 sounds, and it lacked little bit of details that i could hear from klipsch, but the sound coverage area is more. for klipsch speakers (at least promedia & ifi), the directions of speakers are more important than polk, but polk seems lacking in high tone details....the horn must be the one that makes difference. btw, my friend told me that his friend bought a pair of new rb-35 from ebay for 250usd...so i guess i will be waiting for the deal to pop up @voxr3m, thanks your pic, that looks nice, but how are you driving your rsx-5 speakers? are they powered by ifi/promedia or a stereo receiver? would you share detailed your setup...perhaps with some pics?
  11. used "untested" speakers at ebay are junks....waste of money my friend tested promedia 2.1 from bestbuy for half an hour, and it sounded great, but i have to say ifi is considerably better than promedia 2.1; however, since both are very good, it's not going to be day and night difference. ifi is smooth not boomy; for music, ifi should be more clear (i am an average joe in the street...not an expert ) since you used z-5300, i would say no worse than the logitech when you set up as a pc speaker yes, you can connect both ipod & pc at same time + one more device ;-)....1 x ipod dock + 2 stereo mini plug-ins (make sure your ipod is compatable with ifi) sat is about same for both klipschs which should be similar to logitech, but the ifi subwoofer is about twice as big (if i remember correctly) as promedia 2.1 you should be able to get a new promedia 2.1 for 140usd or ifi for 250usd if you look harder.
  12. thanks larry1 & jay481985 ;-) @jay481985, your rf83 must be really good ;-)...do you need a subwoofer with that speakers, or can rf83 produce subwoofer range sound? it seems like small speakers cannot produce natural mid-range sound. i like to get rsx-5, but i cannot find one other than one from ebay where one seller is asking 300usd for a pair. if i remember correctly, i think i saw rsx-5 pair were sold for around 200usd. what about rb-25 or rb-35? are they considerably better than rsx-5? if i have enough space, i might buy polk r50 which are often sold for less than 100usd in pair from outpost.com/fry's electronics.
  13. i just need stereo system not 5.1, so i am thinking about to give up my promedia ultra 5.1 (only two speakers sat speakers are used for my pc) because i already have unused pioneer reciever, i am thinking about building 2.1 system. my friend already bought too many polk r50 speakers which sounded great, but i like a bookshelf system like rsx-4/5 i am considering ifi, too, but i am not sure whether that would improve the sound quality from my ultra 5.1 speaker. polk r50 is very tempting because i don't think i need woofer & very inexpensive (50usd/speaker that's what my friend paid less s/h) i wonder rsx-4 or 5 (cannot find anywhere other than ebay (2 rsx-4 for 250usd & 3 rsx-5 for 300usd) would sound better than r30 or 50 (r30 is often on sale for 50usd/pair) anyother recommendations? btw, i am NOT a big fan of bass blasts
  14. i am using promedia ultra 5.1, and i bought ifi for my dad; because i don't use 5.1 much, i think i would go for ifi if ifi can provide me better stereo sound than ultra 5.1 your 2c is appreciated
