  1. Sounds like a fun project but why close off the garage door? Depending on your budget you could look into getting a window/door system to fit in place of the garage door something like this http://www.nanawallsystems.com/ That way you could close the doors and use blinds when the HT was in use but when you had nice weather you could open up and have an 'outdoor' living room. I've done some residential renovation and used similar products and it's a great way to stay insulated but still bring in a lot of natural light when you want to.
  2. STL, not to get too far off topic but no way would I put my hard earned money into a projection LCD or DLP. For me, the picture on a plasma is so much better. It reminds me of bigscreen projection TV's of yesterday. Yeah Frank, you got a big picture but it looks like sh#@. And if you know where to look you can get a good plasma for not much more than a similar DLP. But like I said, the sound is more important to me than the picture so I'll wait until plasmas are more reasonable.
  3. Kevin, I just went through the same thing with either KG3.5's or SS-1's and it boils down to 'do you want direct-radiating or dipole' for surround sound and here's your answer: There is no correct answer. Some companies say dipoles are better because it helps envelope you with sound and some companies say direct radiating are better now because there are discrete rear channels. I read a lot of articles and listened to a lot of people on this forum but what it comes down to is WHAT DO YOU THINK SOUNDS BEST. I chose the SS-1's because they sounded better, to me, for movies and they were smaller and wall mounted. If you listen to a lot of multi-channel music you may like the larger speakers better. And I hate to say this because this is not why I posted but I'm selling my SS-1's (just got a deal on some SS-3's) if you're interested. My email is joshlukins@hotmail.com.
  4. STL, are you doggin' my 27" mitsubishi tube? Sure, it takes 5 minutes for it to warm up and get a picture, but the wood grain enclosure is SWEEEEET. Seriously, I think a lot of people still have their tubes running. I would like to get a plasma sometime soon but as long as I have good sound, the picture is not nearly as important to me, so my money goes into audio + the million other expenses I have.
  5. That's what I'm thinking. The 3803 has all the features I need and is a class above that particular yamaha but wanted to hear some other opinions. Any more votes?
  6. Yesfan, what about sheilding. The KV-2 and 3 are magnetically sheilded. If you put a kg2.5 on top of a tv you start to run into problems with interference, right?
  7. My vote - keep the ksw-10. Both are good subs and I would rather have the size than a supposedly better smaller sub. If yours was a sony or something that might be a different story but the sub you have is already a nice speaker. And you might already know this but the sub does not need to be series matched like the rest of your speakers.
  8. First, this is not a Denon vs. Yamaha thread. It is a 3803 vs. RX-V757 thread. Second, I know they are not on the exact same price level as new but I have a chance to get the 3803 used for the same price as a 757 new so my question is, is the 3803 that much better quality in sound, amps, build, etc to warrant going with a used receiver over a new one?
  9. Ian, I recently upgraded to some used KG 5.5's from my KG 3.5's and absolutely love them. Very clear and crisp and lots of bass. I don't think there is a better speaker for the money (since you can get these used for about $300-$400). And I use a KV-3 for the center which matches perfectly. A KV-2 would also work well. I would stick with the KV series so your front line-up will be matched. You can find KV centers on ebay all the time. If you're looking at surrounds most would recommend something from the same KG line anywhere from matching 5.5's to 2.5 bookshelves, but I wanted wall mounted surrounds so I talked to Klipsch and they recommended the SS series surrounds for a good match and now I have the SS-3's which sound terrific. Don't hesitate on the 5.5's, you'll love 'em.
  10. For that matter, I could run a selector off the main inputs. I guess that's what I might do since I just got done testing the onkyo 602 that I spoke of earlier and I'm now headed out to return it. My old Onkyo 501 that I'm replacing sounded better than the new 602 in a side by side.
  11. Hunt, I like the way you're thinkin'. I didn't realize the 2805 had the A/B option. I just bought an ONKYO tx-sr602 for $350 brand new (couldn't pass up such a good deal) so I will try it tonight and see what I think. If I have any doubts I might return the 602 and take your advice on the 2805, but considering it would be about twice as much as what I just paid, I'm hoping the new ONKYO does it for me.
  12. I've only had these speakers for a few months and they are absolutely like new. I thought I'd give you guys a shout before they go on ebay. I'm looking to get $190 plus shipping from 40503. I just bought some SS-3's to keep up with my new KG 5.5's so these need to go. I don't have the original boxes but they will packaged very well my me and I take very good care of my stuff. My ebay id is jlukins so check out my feedback and email me at joshlukins@hotmail.com if you're interested. P.S. I have my 3.5's on ebay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5782702757&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 someone will be getting a beautiful pair of speakers.
  13. Thanks, but I went ahead and bought an all in one unit. I decided I couldn't justify the expense right now. There's always next year.
  14. Yes, component video is the best option for you (component video splits the signal into the different color channels instead everything in one yellow cable and provides a cleaner picture). And I've read several articles that say that component video is just as good as dvi in some instances depending on the source so don't worry, you're not losing much by not having dvi. And HDMI is the same as dvi only it also includes the audio signal in the same cable.
  15. Are you referring to the voltage selector? If so, yes it's in the correct position. And yes, I have tried several different source materials. And no I don't have any halogen lamps in the room but that's an interesting idea.
