  1. I remember the rc-7 was a very tall center and will not fit in many tv stands or center speaker areas made in most furniture. Hence the rc64 uses 6.5 inch instead of 8 inch drivers. Also I sorta like the idea of 4 speakers with different crossovers vesus 2 speakers with different crossovers, sounds more symetrical to me

I know when I made my custome stand, I didn't take into proper consideration the height of center channel speakers that I would look at as upgrades... my slot is unfortunately about 1/4" to short to accomadate an RC-7 :\
  2. to all those whosay folks who get out in the super early hrs of 'black-friday' are nuts..

well, if I had your money...

anyway, I left the house @ 4:15 (about an hr & 1/2 earlier then I usually do when heading for work) and jumped on the back of a 2000+ person line at BB...

yep, you can call me nuts, but I wasn't after one of the 12 available 50" plasma sets...

    I was only after a Samsung 931W 19" widescreen monitor for $129 (reg $250) and a 1GB thumbdrive...

they opened the doors at 5:00 AM sharp and at 5:10 AM I was walking back to my Expedition which I parked in front of the Home Depot with my goodies in hand...

I immediately jumped on line at Home Depot...

they opened the doors at 5:30 AM and I picked up a Dewalt 18v cordless drill for $99 (reg $190) and was back in my Expedition by 5:40 AM...

I then drove to Staples, got on the end of a 150+ person line...

they opened the doors at 6:00 AM, I picked up another Samsung 931W 19" widescreen monitor, a 1 GB thumbdrive, a power strip and a paper shreader and was back at home by 6:10 AM

A pretty easy morning of shopping that saved me hundreds of dollars.... even on my meger little purchases

  3. just don't get a yamaha

    wtf, over, LOL

    I'm finally, actually narrowing down my wish list to either a Yamaha RXV-2600 (possibly a RVX-1600), a Harmon-Kardon AVR745 (possibly a AVR 645) , or a Denon 3807 (possibly a 4307). . .

and due to the features, the specs, the reviews and personal recommendations I've read and/or recieved, I'm leaning towards the Yamaha with the HK as second choice

  4. I also have Polk's and, of course Klipsch.

The 5 Polks (old monitors with the 7" woofer & 1" silk dome) were moved from my living room system to a tiny room with a sony HTIB as replacements for the sorry tiny speakers that came with it after I bought my Klipsch...

I like my Klipsch better but then the Polk Monitors are not in the same league as Polk LSi series either...

  5. I hate to say it again (as I have posted it several times) but when I added the Yamaha M50 outboard amp to drive my main speakers, the meters show 0.3w for sound at 75db and goes up to a whopping 3.0w on explosions etc. The M50 is rated at 120wpc and there is LOTS of room left over. I agree, 100wpc is a marketing ploy. It takes DOUBLE the wattage to get a 3db increase in volume. So the difference between a 100wpc amp and a 200wpc amp is 3db, or about the volume of a whisper in a quiet room.

only if your talking about "Real" wpc, instead of the "marketing" wpc...

    see my post above . . .

  6. Thanks for your reply Dr.,

I guess I should maybe go with first things first...

I'm wanting to send my current sony str de995 from my small 17' x 14' living room to my tiny 14' x 10' men's club and replace it with something that will be able to really kick out some multi channel volume when I toss in music dvds. It does "ok" for movie, but that's only because my wife seems to think that movie sound tracks and dioluge are meant for 'background-entertainment', lol

I would most likely be going with a mass market AVR, my 'short' dream list includes Denon 3806, Yamaha RX-V2600 & HK635... being a little more realistic, I may back down to maybe a lesser Yamaha, denon, Pioneer or ????

I most likely would make the purchase, if there will be one, at the local Best Buy / Curcuit City... the only dedicated home audio stores around here that I found only have the stuff that is out of my range in stock and I wouldn't expect them to order something in unless I'm committed to buying it.

I guess I'm ignorant to Best Buy's 30 day return policy... Don't they charge a 15% 're-stocking' fee on returned electronics? If not, Yahoo!, lol

until you find one that satisfies your cravings. If your local audio store I would talk to the sales dude and see if you can't get him to let you bring home gear to demo.

and yes, I think the numbers that sony is putting up, at least in the case of my current str-de995, is to advertise the maximum output for only one channel being driven at a time [:(]
  7. I choose to make my own 'High-Mass' stands, each of which weighs in at only about 40 lbs, but with a pretty low center of gravity (25 lbs of cast iron hidden in each base) to add as much tip resistance as I cheaply could for my RB-35s.

I'm not at home and can't remember the height but I'm thinking they are about 28" high...

I didn't want the tweeters at ear level when seated, I wanted them a bit higher to compromise for listening while standing

  8. I don't really have 'room' for separates in my current equipment stand, which I built

I'm just begining a mild kitchen remodel that involves new counter tops, sink, flooring and demolishing one wall to 'open-up' into the existing dinning room... I'm not excited about the idea of taking on the construction of a new stand right now

And, I really don't think the sony is putting out anything near an honest 100 wpc....

more like 60-70 wpc in two channel mode and maybe 30-40 wpc in 7.1 surround...

I'm hoping that one of these spiffy 'High-Current' recievers rated at 120 wpc x 7, that I can pick-up for a reasonble amount and drop in my current stand, will provide what I want. If not, I'll have to tolorate the sony for quite a while longer...
