  1. Hey Guys, A friend of mine has some Infinity speakers with subwoofers built in on the sides of both front floor-standers. They do sound nice as well. I am really curious as to which design/approach is better as far as fronts go. The one I just mentioned or a seperate sub/subs. I cannot really come to a conclusion technicaly so here I am. Also what do you think of Infinity speakers (similar model) as compare to the Ref-5 series. What differences have you guys felt when listening to both as I am sure most of you must have auditioned them before deciding about Klipsch. Thanx for the input.
  2. Well, I've asked the builder to bring the cost down or I am not getting it done. If he brings it down.....well and good, if not, screw it, I'll just get it done later on after I move in.
  3. u know it does sound like a good idea. Let me try that.
  4. once again, the builder does NOT allow to work on the pre-wiring MYSELF OR a CONTRACTOR that i bring. They will only allow the company THEY have a contract with to get it done if i want it done BEFORE the drywall goes up. I havent asked them what would they charge me to run just the conduits. But if thats also something out the roof, I will get the whole thing done AFTER i move in.
  5. Guys, I have just thought about trying the wire hiders along with the crown molding for the surrounds and runnin the fronts under the carpet right below the drywalls. wat do you guys think..i know i know its a cheapo way around but is it reasonable..?
  6. hmmm...so may be I should ask the BB folks, just to install the conduit and then later on, I'll install the cable myself. As of now, I am thinking of the Rf-7's with a H/K 635. Ofcourse, I am gonna build the whole thing slowly and not all at once.
  7. UPDATE: So I decided to pay a visit to the local Bestbuy since they just got Magnolia and guess what, the guys over there were wayyyyy kooler then this builder's refered (forced) home theatre company. Besides all the great info they provided, they told me they can do the wiring for 5.1 with 12 guage wire for like 700-800 bucks, when the builder's company is doin it for $1250 with a 14 or 16 guage wire. The guys at magnolia also said they can do the prewire for the projector AND install the projector for like 700 bucks unless I want DVI (which i do), then it'll be like $300 more. They said they will NOT create holes bigger than may be rougly an inch or so. And since my equipment rack will be in the corner which backs into the utility room which is unfinished anyways so thats a benefit too. At this point, I have decided that I should get this done after i move in since the cost and the mess doesnt look THAT bad as i thought. I am still open for suggestions guys and I do wanna say that if you guys hadnt pointed out the outrageous price difference and the other technical details, I wouldnt have gone to the other home theatre builders out there. Now I can spend the saved money towards the RSW-12 or something
  8. how about the price folks..!!! is it worth getting it done at this price at this point? or Would be a whole lot cheaper to get it done later.
  9. Ok, How about in some non-technical terms for a newbie like me, who is trying to understand wat does the lower freq's are used for and what it actually means to me, the listener. Does it mean that Bigger speakers are more capable of playin low frequencies??? also please explain a little about "crossover" point. At my onkyo receiver, I have it set at 60Hz but m not really sure what its for.
  10. very informative thread since I'm lookin at the exact two (R-5 OR R-7). I am just curious and please forgive my ignorance but whats the advantage of having those big speakers in the 7's since most of the bass goes to the sub anyways..!!!! I mean does the quality improve in anyway..!!! bigger soundstage.??
  11. so wats the bottom line then..!!! Is it it worth $1250 to get it done now..or I could get it done later on with a price difference thats worth it.??? and should i do the same thing with the projector prewire.???
  12. i asked them if i could do it myself and they said due to inspection reasons they cant let anybody else do it, Which means no other contractors that i can hire nor me, UNTILL i move in and the house is mine.
  13. hey guys, I am having a new house built and the wiring company is charging like 1200 bucks to do a 5.1 pre-wiring. is it an appropriate amount or should I get it done from someone else later after the house is built..?? they are charging a similar amount for the projector prewire including like a 1" conduit, cat 5, rgb wires etc. Is that normal pricing?

    Onkyo AVR

So is it an absolutely bad idea to go with ONKYO with the Ref5 or Ref 7 series..or even the Synergy III series..???? If yes, then that leaves me with either the 3805 or a H/K. Which one is better..!!! I know the answer is going to be based on every individuals personal experience but I am willing to go with the flow here so help me out. Also I am gettin my house (to be) pre-wired...any suggestions..??? as far as wiring goes. thanx folks. also is it a good idea to get KA-1000-THX/KW-120-THX with one of the above mentioned speakers..!!!!!

    Onkyo AVR

Well no I wasnt refering to any BOOM BOOM BOOM. However; I do want a clean, accurate and deep bass that will shake the rec room foundation. I might end up using two subs if needed. I've used Onkyo before (502) and it works fine, plus the TX-SR702 and NR-801 have THX certification which the 3805 doesnt have. I have a promedia ultra 5.1 for my computer room right now and am happy with the bass it produces and the sound quality as well. Thats why i chosed to go with klipsch and not infinity, paradigm or anything alike.

    Onkyo AVR

Hey folks, First of all, thanx for all the usefull info provided by you guys on this board. Secondly, I am looking forward to purchase some Klipsch speakers for my home theatre. Right now, I am looking at the ref-5 or ref-7 series and thinkin about pairing them with the Onkyo TX-SR702 or NR-801...or may be a Denon-3805. what do you guys think. I might end up doing seperates down the road (may be a couple of years) but for now. This is what i plan to do. I've listened to the Ref-5 and 7 series and liked them besides the bass just wasnt enough for me even with the sub they had. I am wondering if the syn III series is really that different from theese or there isnt much noticeable diff...!!!!!
