  1. I just looked real close and I see no indication that they are veneered. In fact, you can see where the stain ends next to the riser in the picture from behind. Can someone else post pics of their birch Khorns? I'd love to see what others look like.

My LaScalas are LS-BLS. What's that code stand for?

  2. Whoa! Pretty. Those are birch? (scratching head)...

So how do they sound? Critique?

Yeah, they're BR which is Birch Raw? I think. Maybe someone can explain the codes Klipsch uses. They are KB-BR-L-F

So far they sound great. I have one in it's original state with the K77 tweeter and the AK-2 crossover and the other has one of Bob's new tweeters and one of Bob's crossovers. I'm still in the process of re-working the woofer hook-up. I cut a new piece of birch to replace the access doors because I don't want to alter the woofer crossover section in any way. Now I have to mount some bananna plugs on the new doors so I can hook up the woofers. Should be done by tomorrow then I can really test to see the improvements made by the new tweeter and crossover.

    So far I am a happy man![:D]

  3. Very nice, Bernie!!!

Are they on the second floor also with the Georgians?

Thank you! No, these are on the main floor. The Georgians are still sitting unused on the second floor awaiting a room remodeling.

Probably the best part about owning all these large speakers is that I can actually play them as loud as I want to, since my house is surrounded by cornfields and I have no neighbors. [<:o)]

  4. Well it was a lot of work and it snowed all day during the drive in and back with the Khorns, but it was worth it. They sound great even with the AK-2 crossovers but I've already started switching one of the K77's with one of Bob's and one of the crossovers with one of Bob's AA/A in the A setting. I want to do a comparison before switching the second one.

One thing I noticed is that some of the Monster cables attached to the crossovers and drivers have turned green with corrosion inside the insulation. They'll all be removed anyhow but is that common for them to corrode like that?

Here's a few pictures of them. I know the room is too small and I don't have corners to put them in but if you knew what I paid for them, you would have bought them too and held on to them for the next house which will be bought to accomodate the speakers.

  5. Dave just made a great point. Yes, take off the side grills.

I already thought of that and brought them home with the tops. Thanks for the good advice though. I'll be driving in tomorrow with both of my suv's, with a second driver of course, to pick them up. Couldn't fit them both in one truck. Tommorrow will be busy but should end pretty nice.[Y]

  6. CONGRATULATIONS, BERNIE!I

Other than the crossovers, are you thinking of doing any mods/upgrade to them?

    Armando

Other than Bob's crossovers and his new tweeters, I don't know what other mods they would need. I want to get them set up tomorrow and really hear what they sound like. Unfortunately I don't have good corners to put them in but hopefully someday I will. (first requirement when buying my next house is it must have good corners)[;)]

  7. I wasn't in the market for K-Horns but my cousin called me to let me know a buddy of his had a pair he wanted to sell so I went to see them today. Possibly the cleanest pair of 87's you'll find, and the price was very right so I bought them. [:D] They have the AK-2 crossovers though which I know are not great but I have a pair of Bobs crossovers in my LaScalas, which I guess I'll be selling now, so Bob's crossovers will work well in K-Horns too right? I was only able to bring home the tops with me today but I'm making a trip back towards Chgo tomorrow for the rest of it.

  8. I received mine yesterday and installed just one of them in my Lascalas to do a comparison. What everybody has been saying about them is true so far. There is definately more clarity and detail and much less harshness. Bob did a great job on these as he always does on any of his projects.

    Bob,

If I switch the crossovers I got from you from the AA to the A set up, what sound difference should I hear or is it just the absense of the tweeter protector?

    Bernie

  9. I've got a question that has possibly been discussed before, but I'll ask it anyway. It has been mentioned in this thread and others that the K-77 or T35 is not able to cross as low as 3500, but all the old Electro Voice systems use the T35 and they all cross at 3500. Why would all their systems cross at 3500 if that's too low? The mention of the vertical mounting as being the correct method is true with all the EV systems where they always mounted the T35 vertically.
