  1. Watching movies leads only to watching more movies. You'd think that most of what comes out each year pretty much sucks and you could catch up on good movies?

Is there any hope for me?

The end of your list is the person you want to be! [:D]

Well perhaps you will spend all your free time deciding what will be on the top of your queue!

  2. Thought it be worth mentioning that the complete set of all 5 seasons of Gene Roddenberry ANDROMEDIA is currently being sold at Bestbuy for $99 (lists for $170)! This was a reasonably entertaining Science Fiction and this collection (released 10/3) comes on 50 separate DVD's not the double-sided DVD's that seasons 2 through 5 collections came on. The collection uses the thin sleve DVD holders that contain 2 disks each. Sure wish Star Trek or Dr. Who was this cheap!

  3. Speaking of propagana . . . the redesigned web Klipsch web site still has the iFi displayed prominently in the Ipod Speakers section! Curious they still say on their specifications "Built from 2005" with no end date.

Perhaps we might see the Spiderman 3 "Venon" version of the Klipsch iFi in the future. You never know! [;)]

Note: Klipsch is currently selling factory refurbished iFi once again under Clearance area as well as several other computer speakers.

  4. Very nice/modern web layout compared to previous site layout.

The indivudual product page layout are much more professional in appearance. Some repeated URL requests are getting server error reponses currently, probably because the site is currently being edited.

One thing Klipsch needs to do is update the hopeless out of date where to buy list of dealers....this is very incomplete and doesn't include most chain stores locally at all!

  5. Since you mentioned humming. Usually caused by conductivity of 60 cycle from AC into amplifier. Check the AC connection your plugged into. I recall a previous user having a similar problem with faulty surge protector and pluging into a regular AC socket stopped the humm. Could also be defective cable going to one of the inputs (subwoofer or control pod).

  6. I was expecting more action, was mildly disappointed. The concept of the movie was OK, and V had enough of a plot to hold my interest, but I thought the movie was a extremely abbrievated version of the comic book saga. From a comic book action movie standpoint this one is luke warm, I could see why the Wachowski Brothers hadn't released it earlier. Picture and Sound quality was excellent though. Good Explosions!

  7. How will the iFi perform with a Mac. I intend to use it with both, my Mac Mini and my iPod. Will I get distortion from the computer?

Great! The line input on the back of the sub-woofer is designed for a normal audio output from a PC or Mac. Distortion will be non-existent because of the low voltage level out. Usually you run into distortion problems on desktops from mediocre source material or you are using a third-party sound card that output level is set too high.
  8. Oh that response begs a top ten list concerning the decision of discontinuing the iFi.

10: Cause its not using super small tweeters as midranges?

9: Oh its too big, it might not fit in my car to take home.

    8: Its not battery operated!

7: Its not white or now black like the ipod!

6: Apple brainwashed me into thinking the Hi-Fi is superior

5: Why is the remote battery dead?

4: Its too good a system for a measly iPod!

3: The subwoofer is just enormous!

2: What ever happened to the super remote?

    1: Its not bose........

  9. Based on the more is better idea, it

was hard to convince people that these two speakers were better than

the 5.1 or 7.1 at bestbuy etc. People see quantity over quality, put

some silver paint on that plastic and they look "esoteric" making the

woofers the size of tweeters is "haute couture" and making them as slim

    as possible is "zeitgeist"

Klipsch is in a market full of

wal-mart brand speakers and we love to hate it but love it more when it

comes to actually buying it but the wal-mart brand speakers are in the

    homes more often than non.

I remember quite a few store visitors when viewing the Klipsch iFi for the first time thought the speakers were too big because they were typically placed near a series of ultra compact iPod speakers that all had woofers the size of tweeters. Sorta reminds you of the movie "Elf". The iPod speaker market has produced some rather odd small speaker systems.

  10. 399 was not very steep for what is built into

the system but when I worked at the Apple Store it was the most

expensive audio system we sold.

How true. But also what was observed in Apple, CircuitCity, Sharper Image were poor product exhibits of Klipsch multimedia systems, and ill informed staff as far as multimedia knowledege which is not helpful at all to slightly confused potential buyers. Additionally numerous times I observed Apple Store staff hawking Bose Companion 3's over GMX or iFi. Of course now they try to hawk their own HI-FI. [8-|]

  11. In terms of the high, it really depends on the type of music and quality you are listening to. If Rock, R&B, they may give fatigue to your ears. But if you are listening to high quality recording, Jazz, Blues, it's beautiful and detailed.

Hmmmm....I wasn't aware that high quality recording was not applicable to Rock and R&B.

Jazz , and Blues usually don't have over-powering bass, so high's would be more apparient.

Folks this is no different then the typical user who utilizes the loudness function on his stereo to accent bass and treble. If it sounds right for you, then it is right for you!

  12. Why?? no news with any new version yet huh? I hope Klipsch will release a much better iPod version soon. :)

Well going by history it will probably take Klipsch Multimedia group a long time before they realize their competition is eating them up. Going by release dates for major product groups represented on forums. ProMedia 5.1 (Ultra) Sept. 2003, Promedia Ultra 2.0 July 2005, Promedia 4.1 Feb 2002, Promedia 2.1 Nov 2002, GMX series 2003, Klipsch iFi June 2005, Klipsch iGroove Sept 2005.

So only recent personal speaker systems from last year are Promedia Ultra 2.0, Klipsch iFi, then Klipsch iGroove. While the Ultra 2.0 are probably selling well, I was disappointed by comments that iFi (which garnered awards from HI-FI magazines) was being discontinued so soon. Then we have the iGroove which has seen very low activity in forums...so it can't be selling that great either. Now if the iGroove is pretty expensive, and has heavy competion, so what went wrong with Klipsch marketing machine for the Klipsch iFi? It certainly sold well when the price was lowered slightly. ($399 was a bit steep don't you think?) While heavily discounted iFi's didn't remain on shelves very long at all.

  13. I heard Warner Home Video was going to release this on DVD this year. Has anyone heard when?

Great western with Karl Malden, George C. Scott.

    Thanks

Sometime in 2006 is all that known. Sergeant York is a another Gary Cooper DVD I am patiently waiting for. My best guess is that we will see a Gary Cooper Collection that includes both of these titles.

  14. Thank you, BobG. Too bad. That daid, do you or does anyone have any opinion about the other options posted above?

    Thank you.

I would pick the Altec Lansing FX6021 over the bose companion 3 or sound sticks.

Gee its really pathetic to recommend a non-Klipsch speaker system.

Market pricing and competitive factors? I thought Klipsch was better then that!

  15. okay, so to one of my original questions...(is the iFi discontinued.) well, it was (I talked to Klipsch Tech support) because of slow sales.

the guy i talked to said it didn't sell well because most people don't want such a big ipod speaker system, not knowing that it is also a computer system. i am guessing the relitively high price also had to do with it.

the bose sound dock is actually 299 and it sounds pretty weak.

Well if it is due to slow sales, then its because of pig-headed marketing types at Klipsch that refused to acknowledge that the Klipsch iFi could be used as a superb computer speaker system (note no 1/8 mini-stereo cable included)! I remember a lot of early questions about this and going into Apple stores and getting ignorant looks from sales staff about using the Klipsch iFi with a computer! Most iPod owners tend to look at small (very portable) speaker systems which the Klipsch iFi was huge compared to. So IMHO Klipsch may have constrained their market appeal by over doing the "made for iPod" appeal of this product. Darn shame as this is one of the best "designed" personal speaker products in a the last few years!

  16. it has been discontinued, i talked to klipsch tech support on the phone and they said that the iFi is no more.

Well the Klipsch site says they are unavailable, but then there is a lot of iFi speaker system in distribution channel still? (buy them quick [:)] ) Perhaps Klipsch has a new iFi replacement product for future unannounced large video iPod from Apple and had to redo the control pod so the Klipsch iFi is end of life. I'm still amazed that they haven't replaced the Promedia 2.1 THX yet (too hot to touch heat sink), or the "too much hiss" GMX series. Maybe we got a whole new series of personal speaker systems coming guys!
  17. to be honest when I looked at the creature speakers I thought that each individual speaker was a tweeter and went, "where's the midbass speaker?"

Exactly. The same with the small speaker array in the FX6021 also. (many others) Some manufacturer's think they are really hip using very small speakers for frequency ranges they weren't designed for. The iPod craze has really generated a lot of crap speaker systems in my humble opinion.
