  1. So, if a regular DVD has the DTS audio then there is really no reason for them to release a Superbit version of that DVD? The video is still 480p on the Superbits? I bought alot of those Superbits when Best Buy began selling them for $10 earlier this season. I assumed that was over but I will check it out to see if there are any others I would like to own.

    Thanks,

    D

I was still able tp find superbit titles for $10 in the racks at various BB's. Online it doesn't show this.
  2. Another movie that should get a razzie is the remake of The Dukes of Hazzard with Burt Reynolds and Jessica Simpson was terrible. It was a dumb TV series and a even worse movie.

And you right Alexander was bad but it was a 2004 film.

Aeon Flux was a great rip off at the theature! The ad looked kinda like Underworld action, but it stunk...bad!

  3. Marginally better video, its really the audio side (dts) that superbit DVD's excel at. Best Buy has been pushing all their Superbits DVD out at $10, so get them while you can. Its really kinda stupid that you have Spiderman 2 superbit that has great audio, but no extras like the normal wide screen DVD which consists of two disks.

  4. Here is a link I think you will find interesting.

    http://www.tvtechnology.com/features/Tech-Corner/f_randy_hoffner.shtml

I think all the marketing groups are taking lessons from Bose!!!!

    Nice article!

The last comment of the article says it all. "In sum, the resolution capabilities of advanced displays have caught up

to the resolution of the 1920 x 1080/60p HD scanning format, but it

will be a while before there is much native 1080/60p material available

    for viewing."

So I think you should just buy what you need, not get caught up in the HD marketing blitz that claims 1080P is here when the number of true HD movies is so few, and the 1080P HD input/output standards are not quite here. All the various new DTS/Dolby codecs that are coming also ticks me off.

  5. Spent some time at the Apple store listening to the Bose sounddock, the Klipsch iGroove and the Altec Lansing iM7. Although I wanted to like the Klipsch the best, I thought the Altec Lansing was by far the best of the three.

Klipsch was better than the Bose. Much brighter, Bose sounded mumbly, muddy and dark. Bose wasn't terrible, Klipsch a little better than the Bose, but Altec Lansing was the best of the three by a noticeable margin.

And to make things worse for Klipsch, I've seen the iM7 heavily discounted. Quite common to see them in stores for $179!
  6. This movie sucks!

I could do better things with Trinity during this 3 hours.

Then I bet you really liked that scene where the cook got eaten by the oversized slugs down in the canyon. They could have left out that scene....I would have preferred a pack of roaches overpowering him, or perhaps a giant bat flying off with him. [:P]

  7. Bought an iFi today and hooked it up immediately. Before using my ipod, I hooked up my computer to the sub using the aux input. Unfortunately, the volume on the PC was maxed. No sound at first, then I hit the Mute/Standby bottom, and super high volume. The speakers gave a burst of sound then were just outputting scratchy distortion. I turned the system off, restarted it and it appears to work OK, but of course I have nothing with which to compare it. The bass seems light, and the sub doesn't give anything when you put your hand up to it. I guess my question is did I blow the speakers or sub, or did it clip off with protection and is OK? Any thoughts appreciated.

If you hear sound out from all speakers you probably just made a awful lot of noise that scared the crap out of you. [:D]

Overdriving the audio input of the iFi can produce distortion and more power directly going to the tweeter then normal. But if you put your ear to each of the satellites and can readily hear bass and high notes output then your satellites are probably fine.

The sub woofer you would have had to seen very long excursion's of the woofer for you to damage it. You probably didn't have time to adjust the bass output to max. The volume level probably shocked you as these speakers can get very loud (spec is 114 db).

Remember the bass output tends to improve with age with new speakers. Play around with a music track and vary your EQ and subwooofer level, if the music sounds normal without any buzzing, or other odd sounds then you are OK.

BTW use the line-input on the sub rather then the aux input on the control pod with a computer. That way you can hear both your iPod and your computer audio at the same time.

  8. Didn't some people on here say Serenity was good?

    IT SUCKED!!!!!

It was OK on DVD. The CGI was not $$$, but the story was at least somewhat orginal. For fans of the series it least closed off the story.
  9. My son broke the 9 pin male connector off of the end of the wire that runs from the dock to the sub. I can replace the connector but I need the wireing diagram. I put a call into the Klipsch parts department to see if I can get a replacement wire or dock.

If anyone has any ideas about this problem I would appreciate any input that anyone has.

How unfortunate! I would just stick with Klipsch parts department and get a replacement dock which includes the cable. Doing the old soldering route would void the warranty.
  10. I know the Mits can accept 1080p via Firewire - I am not sure on HDMI and other stuff.

I have read that some Blu-Ray players will come with 1080P HDMI Outputs, but the current Samsung, Mitsubishi 1080P sets with HDMI only accept sources up to 1080i. uggggh! Here's a confirmation of 1080p inputs. So it looks like if you wait the updated 1080P sets will have 1080P inputs. Saw that a JVC rep mentioned that the new HDILA's are 1080P (input/output) including HDMI?

  11. Hi,

I am finally ready to upgrade my 8+ year old Denon AVR-1400 receiver. It still looks and plays as well as it did when I first got it. In addition, I am also losing the Technics decoder. It's served me well too.

The speakers I currently have are as follows; Fronts/Klipsch RF-15 Center/Klipsch SC-1 Surrounds/ Klipsch SB-1, Sub/ Klipsch KSW10. All of this reside in my NYC living room that measures approx. 19x12.

I am reviewing the newer 1906 and 2106 models however I don't have a problem with getting an older, beefier model, i.e. 2001-2004 especially for the same price. My only requirement is that it is in perfect working condition.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jesse

I think your best bet is to go with the new 2106. It is 7.1 100 watt per channel with a brand new 32 bit FP DSP. There are several vendors selling it at reasonable price if you look for it on froogle web search.
  12. I am looking for a house, and am wondering if carpet or hardword is best for the theater room.

Preferably you should have some carpet between the speakers and the listener. You don't want any sound reflections from this area. If you have two large hard surfaces like ceiling and floor to contend with, you could end up with a slight echo (floor slap) and ruin your sound quality.
  13. what on earth is going on, NO sound comes out with the ipod nano. the adaptor is just a little piece of plastic, maybe it makes the nano fit better in the igroove but it's not solving any sound issues. Why is there no sound coming out of the igroove with my ipod nano?

Some users have just needed to do a reset of the iPod before plugging

it into a accessory. To Reset iPod nano toggle the Hold switch (set it

to Hold, and then turn it off again).

This will probably fix your problem.

  14. is there any reason why i shouldn't leave my iFi on or in "standby"

mode all day? will it overheat even when not in use? the sub on my

promedias got extremely hot even when the speakers weren't even

    operating when it was on.

thanks in advance for any replies. off to work for me.

Jay481985 is absolutely right, the Klipsch iFi hardly gets warm to

touch compared to some of the Promedia. Putting the iFi in standby

mode (effectively off) should be perfectly safe.

  15. I'm debating on whether or not the iFi is the right system for me. I am also considering the Bose Sounddock as well as the Klipsch iGroove. My problem is, I live in an apartment, so I don't want to pump up the music too loud and cause problems with the neighbors. However, at the same time, I like music to sound clear and full. (And I have never had a really great system to do so.) Does the iFi sound very good even at low volume levels? Or do I just defeat the point of getting this speaker system by keeping it at a lower volume? Should I just go with the iGroove if I don't plan to play music very loud?

    Thanks for the help.

The key words you mentioned are "clear and full".

You have to excuse my opinion but the iGroove and Bose Sounddock remind me of high class portable stereo radios. Its impossible to get decent stereo separation with miniature speakers that are inches apart. They do sound OK at low or reasonable volume.

The Klipsch iFi uses 8" subwoofer, and 3 1/2" midrange drivers, and 3/4" horn tweeters in each Satellites and can deliver much cleaner audio range and presence from much better class D amplifier. You can space the satellite speakers as far as part as you want because they use standard speaker connectors and wire. So its easy to have one at each end of the room and still keep the volume very low so to not bother the neighbors.

Of the three choices only the Klipsch iFi sounds like a home stereo system working off of your Ipod, computer or other device, and sounds wonderful at low volume playing pop, jazz, classical, rap or rock!

  16. i just read an article on audioahulics about the new 1080p displays and at this time all 1080p stuff is done inside the display with what ever upconvertion chip the install at the factory.

at this time no consumer display accepts a 1080p input in any format other than the 5 wire computer inputs and most rear projection units dont offer that style of input.

and even if they did you would have to find a way to route all of your program matierial through your computer, with a very exprnsive video card.

with the upcoming blue ray disc players(due out this summer) you might wait on a 1080p unit for now untill they decide that they will take it from dvi /hdmi ect.

otherwise when you pony up for that hi-def dvd player

you wont be able to hook it up to your high dollar display

i was considering the new sony vpl100 projector untill i found this out

" here i sit broken hearted, wanted to watch some 1080p, and someone.......................took for granted that i didnt have a 1080p source"

    jay

Here's the link to that online article

Sometimes you have to take the plunge anyway, you can't wait forever for the ideal 1080P display.

Aren't you looking forward to repurchasing some of your DVD collection at a premium price to see it in HD [:P]

  17. Thanks for directing me to that Link. Since the two RCA cables are being brought down to one, will the speakers still play in stereo? Is there a loss in quality because the cables are being brought down to one?

I'm new to all of this, so any advice and help is much appreciated.

Your just converting two mono RCA outputs to one stereo 3.5 MM mini jack (still stereo). Audio quality should not be impacted, as long as you use fixed volume outputs not variable as some tv's also have.
